No rape took place outside Epsom church, claim police

Either that or the police intimidated the victim into retracting her claims for the sake of quelling the riots.

'they now believe the woman concerned "sustained an accidental head injury" following a night out and made "a confused report".

Being gangraped is hardly the sort of thing a woman would get 'confused' about. This is absolutely outrageous.

A church built with stone. There is a sign in front of the building.

No rape took place outside Epsom church, say Surrey Police

The force says the woman concerned had injured her head on a night out and made 'a confused report'.

So you have insider knowledge to know she’s made it up?

No, but I'm thinking the police do. Hence their statement?

I was just reading this on BBC news and came here to see if there was a thread about it - something just feels really, really off about it. I hope the woman is ok and receiving support. I hope the truth comes out and if the police have pressured her into retracting her claim, the officers invoiced should be sacked share with perverting the course of justice, plus anything else that can be thrown at them.

Agree but as you can see, already all the self righteous “she’s a liar!!!” Has started with the virtue spiral! Again was it not the Guardian who called the women who reported sexual assaults on Cologne 2015 liars?

Lemonfrost · 23/04/2026 21:29

MauriceTheMussel · 23/04/2026 20:44

I saw that and instantly thought “they’ve pressured her into a retraction”

Smells mighty off

I don't think so. This has been thoroughly investigated, no supporting evidence has been found and the overall conclusion is that it didn't happen. It's not helpful or constructive to look for some hidden agenda here.

For goodness sake, stop scraping the barrel.

I'm with the police. In an area such as this, there would be CCTV galore. They failed to show a rape or even consensual sex. It would be impossible for the police to outright lie about this, as the people who submitted it from their shop or ring door bells or dash cams would hav already seen it before submitting it and many of them would have had a copy made routinely. Surely you don't believe all these people are colluding?

Ah so the message is.. “women!!! If you will insist on being raped.. get it on camera or clearly it hasn’t happened!”” ?

Goldfsh · 23/04/2026 21:38

I was very, very off my face once and was convinced I was raped. I had a lot of evidence that it may have happened - physical injuries etc. HOWEVER, it was also entirely possible that I was having a very very bad reaction to what I'd taken. I now think it's very unlikely - and I wasn't entirely sure at that time.

Add on a head injury and I can easily imagine that I could have convinced myself that something had happened.

That was long before CCTV.

Was I a liar? No. Was I raped? Unlikely. Did I need support? Definitely.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 23/04/2026 21:38

The impression I got reading the article was that she had a traumatic head injury- perhaps from a fall- and was confused about how she’d been hurt. She wasn’t able to describe her attackers, or was very muddled about it. There was no forensic evidence.

They say she is being supported, perhaps to recover from the confusion.

Yes, the police could be fabricating or covering up everything, but it’s also possible a woman with a traumatic head wound can’t remember what happened and describes what she feared rather than what she remembered.

This is by far the most likely scenario here.

If it is as others suggest, the woman will have various legal avenues open to her.

I hope she is getting help and support in any event.

You could be a troll for all we know too. There are far too many ridiculous threads trying to stir up division on Mumsnet at the moment. I wonder if some are paid for by Reform or Restore.

Dollymylove · 23/04/2026 21:54

Its all very strange. I dont think we are quite there in terms of a dictatorship yet all though Starmer is doing his best to get us there.
They learned a very harsh lesson trying to cover up the Southport attacks with the "Welsh choirboy" nonsense. I very much doubt they would be idiotic enough to try and deny a gang rape. If it did come out that an attack did happen and it was covered up then the country would pretty much collapse into anarchy. Sounds dramatic I know, and I will probably get my arse flames for saying it, but it seems to be in the news on a daily basis that yet another woman/young girl has been raped by an illegal immigrant

Because the media cover these crimes linked to migrants disproportionately when you consider the majority of such crimes are committed by family members or those known to the victims = white British men

I get trust in police is low but facts matter and conspiracy theories are unhelpful and just perpetuate disinformation and further mistrust

If there is a failed victim here, I hope she reports Surrey force to the police police complaints commission but otherwise there's no evidence of a crime no matter how much that doesn't suit summer people narratives

If this is in your news daily then I suggest you are being fed algorithms that encourage that.

I also believe this, it feels the woman fell, sustained a head injury , had no signs of sexual assault and no other evidence, I doubt the police announced this. Got the public all concerned then said fuck it lets pressurise her into retraction,

I would assume it’s what it says, just a sad situation and the woman is being supported,

The fact that most attacks are carried out by "white British men" doesnt cancel out the illegal immigrant attacks. If they werent roaming free at the taxpayers expense the attacks wouldnt happen.

The victims should sue the government t

I believe women when they report rape. I know that false claims of rape are very rare.

It’s quite obvious from reading the police statement that they are aware they are dealing with a very vulnerable woman. It’s clearly worded to allow her to climb down from a disproven claim, and I’d be very surprised (and angry) if any action was taken against her.

Janesmom · 23/04/2026 22:14

Jesus wept! The amount of conspiracy theory stupidity here is something to behold. It speaks volumes for the dreadful standards of education in the UK right now.

TheCurious0range · 23/04/2026 22:15

There is a woman where I work who has now made several false rape accusations. Now before the pile on yes I know women are raped every day and the conviction rates are frighteningly low, the CJ process for victims of sexual offences is awful. Victims should be believed. This woman has severe psychiatric and substance misuse issues and was the repeat victim of sexual offences when she was young, she uses substances doesn't regularly take her medication and suffers from severe PTSD including vivid flashbacks. When she makes reports she fully believes them and police investigate. Local police would never communicate her situation when another investigation comes to an end without charge, and they are right not to. We have no idea what CCTV etc showed or the vulnerability of this woman. The police have also stated the woman asked for this statement to be made.
