Yes. Here I am. Telling you no one even knows who she is.

You clearly know who she is.

Are you in Scotland?

WearyAuldWumman · 09/03/2026 18:13

Anyway, Joanne Cherry's book is available from April 23rd, so I shall definitely be buying a copy.

Yes, I’m so glad this thread has been kept bumped or I would have missed it. Some great holiday reading for me!

Differentforgirls · 09/03/2026 16:35

She’s such an attention seeker.

Slur, sneer, impugn, distract.

Case cracked! Well done Detective @pontefractals
I note this bit from a review back in the day:
... the evolution of the couple from misfits to a postmodern Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr "may strain credulity". Overall, he concluded that "although the lovers are identified as heterosexual, it's two men up there on the screen kissing, having sex, and falling in love."

I'll buy Joanna's book instead. 😁

Has Steven Mackintosh been cancelled yet for playing a TIM when he's not trans? I hope not, I like his audio work.

Gosh, looks like very early genderist propaganda. Before my time, but interesting to some as historical artefact, I suppose.

ArabellaScott · 09/03/2026 22:13

Differentforgirls · 09/03/2026 16:50

No one cares.

😂

Well now….

FranticFrankie · 09/03/2026 22:19

I could only think of the Joe Jackson song

Differentforgirls · 09/03/2026 17:11

How many people are on mumsnet?

How many people are in the SNP?

KnottyAuty · 09/03/2026 23:21

Back to books… Nicola allegedly received a £300k “advance”. That being payments ahead of royalties expected to arrive in due course. If she’s sold 25,000 books so far (a total guess) and assuming that they all went at RRP (generous/unlikely) and she gets 20% net receipts (again a high estimate) then my guess at royalties earned so far is:20/100 x 25000 x £28 = £140k. Does that mean she’s got to return £160k to the publishers?

I hope JC avoided taking an advance. Although this thread has done wonders for the pre-orders. I’d never have know about it if it weren’t for that Tim wanting on and pushing thread into active

KnottyAuty · 09/03/2026 23:30

*That should be wanging not wanting

Also interesting that the book is to be released 23rd April - St George’s day. Good day for mushroom hunting also

Iamnotalemming · 09/03/2026 23:33

I've pre-ordered the audio book (didn't know that was possible until just now!).
I'm not in Scotland but am interested in how the bin fire was started, stoked and has been allowed to keep burning long after sensible people should have called the firefighters to put it out.

MelOfTheRoses · 09/03/2026 23:54

Also not in Scotland, but the last few years of their politics have been riveting, so I will be buying it - interested in seeing what she has to say.

Didn't bother with Nicola's though. That was only interesting for what it didn't say.

Bertiebiscuit · 09/03/2026 23:56

Hurrah! I bloody love Joanna Cherry 😍😍😍😍

Bertiebiscuit · 10/03/2026 00:07

Thank you for your constant repetition, without it i would not have known that the wonderful Joanna Cherry has a book coming out, which i shall buy. And yes, i care.
You're a bloke aren't you

Differentforgirls · 10/03/2026 00:10

FranticFrankie · 09/03/2026 22:19

Ah, one person who whose not obsessed by trans people! You’re correct 😊

Bertiebiscuit · 10/03/2026 00:31

Well that explains it, how tiresome

WearyAuldWumman · 10/03/2026 00:37

I'm looking forward to being able to discuss the book on here.

KittyWilkinson · 10/03/2026 03:21

I look forward to discussing it@WearyAuldWumman. My copy is arriving May 2nd apparently. Definitely a reading binge weekend for me!

fanOfBen · 10/03/2026 05:28

Excellent, looking forward to it! (Yes I'm voting, no it won't be SNP.)

Less than there used to be

No. Books often don't 'earn out'. Some advances are paid with no expectation of earning out. Publishing runs on the 'fucking batshit' model of economics.

  • But also, sales continue as long as a book is in print.

Ah in tribute to Nic-sters book having read the songs reviews then? 🤨 “a mite too sprawling and unfocused to be much of a hit".?

BezMills · 10/03/2026 07:46

It's great this thread has been so active, thanks to all who contributed

I no longer live in Scotland and therefore haven't a vote, which is only fair.

I'm considering ordering the book from my local book shop for local people. I'll see how the thread goes... more posts, more chance I'll buy it

EvangelineTheNightStar · 10/03/2026 07:59

Differentforgirls · 09/03/2026 16:53

But you’re not, so I repeat, no one cares.

The Unicode was on this morning on Bluey so made me think of a poster on this thread! 😆
