I think you're all being far too forgiving of Swinney. He's not just passively doing his best, he is up to his neck in key bits of dirty business and cover-up, and has been for years. His nickname 'Honest John' is ironic, not descriptive.

I expect they'll go back to what they were when I was a kid - a small group of what were generally considered joyless extremists. The 'tartan tories'.

Oh I have no doubt he's known about the murk and probably been complicit in it for years - but I think he's too passive to create any drama himself. I could be wrong though!
