The Bluestocking Inn, cocktails and cocoa and all

Opening soon in a salubrious location.

And thanks to the miraculous qualities, although we will indeed have

One-steps and two-steps and the divil knows what new steps
We know that we never would be dull again, bedad
We'll have wine, porter and lemonade.
We'll have cocktails and cocoa and all
We'll have champagnes tonight
But NO real pains next morning
Tonight when we dance at the Bluestocking Ball

slight apologies to Frank Harte

The correct name for a female camel is of course Alice.
Apologies for the earworm Grin

Sometimes I just skate over references I don't get - lots of childhood books and TV programmes I didn't experience not being in the UK, so I just move on.
But an earworm involving a camel called Alice is just too intriguing to pass over -
explain please Magpie!Confused

Don't know if that'll work if you don't have Spotify.
Alice the Camel is a song I learnt at Guide camp. It fits all the criteria for a Guide camp song - silly, repetitive, doesn't require much in the way of singing ability, mildly amusing. The only thing it misses is being slightly risqué.

They're not all camels, some of them are gerbils who can change their appearance to fit in with their surroundings. They are camelians.😁

Brilliant Marie. I love your little etymological (?) quips. 👏😁

I sometimes wonder what AI is learning from its interaction with the Bluestocking members. Perhaps that is why it "hallucinates" at times!

EdithStourton · 23/02/2026 09:46

Excellent, Marie. Took me a moment to get it owing to a distinct shortfall in the sleep department - the sleep Gerbils were clearly busy elsewhere.

Recycled image (I think it was Boily's).

Also ‘Treat leather sofas & chairs.’

I don’t have any but if I did, what should I treat them to?

A cream cake.
A trip to the theatre.
A night off the washing up.

These do it for me.

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2026 10:25

midgetastic · 23/02/2026 09:33

Help please

in my to do list for today it says either

Cornish tin tin
or
wash tutu

what is really on the list?

If you insist on doing your mining tasks in ballet wear, your tutu will almost certainly need a wash.

🎶don't upset the camel, he's already got the hump 🎶

Anyone remember this kid's song? DS loved it - on repeat
(along with 'never play cards with a cheetah')

Thank you... sort-of-it is quite the earworm isn't it😬
I found it on youtube with an American accent

As it went on and on I was craving a base two number system, and I was losing the will to live at Larry the Lizard's seven stripes, but Oh Joy, it uses an octal number system and stopped at Sammy the Spider's eight legs😄

Our dog used to ‘camel walk’, and obviously had a flat back. So DD would sometimes call him Humphrey Camel.

They've been given firm instructions, Not, so I hope that you won't have to lodge a formal complaint tomorrow morningSmile

The casualty list is rising, lots of unwell Stockingers 😷🤒🤕,but never fear, Dr Bessie can cope with it all.
Wishing you all a healing night's sleep 🌛

No complaint necessary, thanks. They both came up trumps and I've had the best night's sleep for a good while. It makes such a difference!

Oh well done Sleep and Dream Gerbils, you are brilliant!
And Not's experience is a testament to the fact that the Sleep and Dream Gerbils are not figments of my imagination, they are real and very effective😁

The version I know is always Alice, and counts down from ten. The last two lines being:
Alice the camel had no humps
Cos Alice is a horse, of course.

Whaaat? after all that she's not a camel at all? I'm sorry but that's just messing with little children's minds! Outrageous!😠
😄

Britinme · 23/02/2026 12:13

The “Alice is a horse” version is the one I remember. The sleep gerbils deserted me last night but I’m glad they were helping others.

That's a very altruistic reaction, Britinme😇
I hope they do better tonight.Smile

Jolly good.
Knackered though I am, I have waded through an enormous list of admin, and can make no further progress with it until the various people I have adminned at reply to my texts, emails, FB messages and 'I expected to hear last Wednesday' note in their on-line box (which is hidden in the depths of their website - I've kept the link because I am fully expecting to need it again, given their unresponsive uselessness thus far).

Magpiecomplex · 23/02/2026 12:34

FuzzyPuffling · 23/02/2026 08:18

The sleep gerbils did me well last night, Thank you, little furry ones.

However, that list of tasks makes me exhausted just to look at it. Who vacuums their car every week? And weekly "air purification"? I open the windows every day. Will that do?

Edited

It was the Friday task to disinfect doorknobs that got me!

ifIwerenotanandroid · 23/02/2026 12:36

Marie, I've done a few N&D gerbil pix, including the first one. Is this what you're after?

You have to pay extra for those.

Here's a more cartoony version, though I prefer the realistic (!) one.
