Do you exist IRL?

EdgeOfThirtySeven · 04/01/2026 17:11

It's just that I see so many TRAs stating that "nobody IRL cares about this stuff", so maybe we just all exist on Twitter/X and Mumsnet? Sort of disembodied AI? Not actual women in actual buildings, doing actual jobs and leading actual lives?

When Katy Colin Montgomery briefly returned to Twitter/X for his drunken pre- and post-Christmas rants, they centered on the idea that:

Man it's so weird looking at twitter and seeing GCs still going on and on about their nonsense ideology. Literally no one irl thinks about trans people at all. No one cares. If they got a hobby they'd be cured of their relentless insanity in an instant

...

Obviously I've not posted for ages because of, you know, the nazis and the bots and how authoritarian Elon has even censored the word cîs. But there's one thing I wanted to say: Gender Critical isn't real. No one irl gives a fuck AT ALL

I'm pretty sure that I exist IRL. My dog certainly relies on that. Oh, and my loving family, and friends 😆

Well he would say that. He wants the engagement.

Meanwhile, here is a thread of polls that show that people really do 'give a fuck' in real life. All across the world.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5445880-statistics-poll-evidence-archive-thread

There is even a new poll from Scotland that I added today that shows that yes... people do indeed give a fuck about the impacts of when gender identity is given priority over sex.

One TRA says something and they all repeat it ad nauseam. If nobody IRL cares about this stuff, why are they always posting about being "eliminated"? Just get on and live your best TRA life.

The hobby thing comes up so many times. It's boring and unimaginative. They dehumanise us by portraying us as lonely terfs living a sad life (projection much) no hobbies, funded by far right american religious groups, nothing to focus on in our lives but trans people. Even in their criticism of us they are narcissistic.

Greyskybluesky · 04/01/2026 18:18

And Colin is such a major cliché, it's genuinely amusing.

GCScot · 04/01/2026 18:21

To plagiarise Carly Simon:

TRAs are so vain... they think women's rights are about them

Raywood · 04/01/2026 18:52

Pretty sure I read that the most read article on BBC News last year was the one about For Women Scotland winning at the supreme court. Without offering an opinion about why the people read the article it certainly suggests that this is a subject that people are interested in.

TrainedByCats · 04/01/2026 18:59

In my experience he’s partially right, women ‘IRL’ ie those not on Twitter/mumsnet are often less well informed about the issue. Where he’s wrong is as soon as they understand the implications they are more likely to be peaked irl very quickly.

And, of course, many/most women "IRL" are not going to confront a man in the Ladies, for fear of the consequences, or complain at work (we've seen how that goes), or tell a bloke in a spinny skirt and fake boobs that they are not, in fact, a woman.

I definitely exist irl, though I'm happy to discuss all manner of philosophical stuff with TRAs around 'I think therefore I am' and about whether all of us are just the imaginary playthings of magical giants 🤣.
But if we assume that any of us exist, I definitely do.
And I very much care about males trying to use female rights.

Catiette · 04/01/2026 19:19

It interests me how often it does come up in conversation, actually. I'm not adverse to bringing it up myself, either - but it's only with people I really trust, and only given the right opener. Having done so, though, I sometimes find it quite striking how relieved and keen to discuss it those people seem to be. I honestly think that's probably why the more passionate ideologues can continue to tell themselves no one cares - they're the ones least likely to be trusted to respond maturely to a "confession"(!) of GC heresy.

Also this.
Why on earth do the self-obsessed navel-gazers assume I somehow have nothing better to do. I wish i didnt have to expend energy on this, I really do, what with the career, and the elderly relatives and the DC, and the friends, some of whom are dealing with crap and illness, and the charities, and trying to find a moment to go to the gym 🤣.

DworkinWasRight · 04/01/2026 19:30

The real question is: does Colin exist in real life? Or did we all just conjure him up in a collective nightmare as the result of eating too much cheese?

Fimofriend · 04/01/2026 19:43

Does he think that we are bots?

I should have put up more stickers with the definition of woman on them. A bot cannot do that.

fabricstash · 04/01/2026 20:22

I definitely exist and I definitely talk about this stuff in real life. I have other stuff to do but IwWon’t lie and I won’t hide my views if asked. So many people have changed their view in the last 1-2 years. The TRAs know their facade is crumbling

PinkStingray · 04/01/2026 20:25

Very misogynistic, if we were not mostly women he wouldn't be telling us to get a hobby.
It's all about that genderist view of women being dolls, sex objects, 50's
housewives with the Dior dress and apron.

EdgeOfThirtySeven · 04/01/2026 20:43

Men have a life. Women should get a hobby 🙄

They out themselves with their misogyny, without even realising it. Because, you know, men.

Doesn't work, Col.

Knitting. Tractor-spotting. Model-making. Ceramics. Birdwatching. Crochet. Lego. Collections [many sub categories there!]. Hiking. Motorcycling....

We've tried so many hobbies, and yet here we still are, GC AF😁

elgreco · 04/01/2026 23:15

I have no hobbies, just a job, marriage, house, children, elderly parent, old car, friends and other family.

Greyskybluesky · 04/01/2026 23:42

Proving once again that TRAs have no idea about real women's lives

Iamnotalemming · 05/01/2026 00:11

I LOL'd at "gender critical isn't real".
What a berk.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2026 00:20

Does this person even know what ‘gender critical’ means?
twerp.

This Montgomerie?

(Posting the link with the image of the start of the twitter interaction of Montgomerie and Prior mocking women’s toilet sounds). When Montgomerie talks about twitter and nonsense, we all know he is projecting right?

We certainly know he is a misogynist.

Does he know that you can't see people's thoughts 'irl', whereas you can if they've written them down on X or MN?

EmpressaurusKitty · 05/01/2026 06:51

I exist & all the women I’ve protested with, leafleted with & been to parliament with exist too.

DabOfPistachio · 05/01/2026 07:45

Literally no one irl thinks about trans people at all. No one cares.
This is what happens when you a) live in a bubble and b) react aggressively to anyone who gives off even a hint of disagreeing with you.
If I knew him IRL, such as a colleague or family member, I'd be polite but keep my distance. When someone is clearly unhinged, sees anyone who disagrees with them as a bigot and willing to post all their grievances on social media, people disengage and quietly walk away.
I'd be massively surprised if anyone IRL spoke to him about being GC.
On the other hand, I've noticed how often women are casually talking about this now. I run a number of community groups. Five years ago, I'd have been surprised if anyone just casually raised the subject but its happening a lot now. It's something that is clearly a topic for a lot of women.

I host a few community groups and have noticed this too. It is getting discussed openly now.
