So which of angies relatives is trans then? I can't see any other reason why she's do desperate to include men

MooPointCowsOpinion · 30/12/2025 19:31

Aw yay thanks for sharing, this is a great idea for those of us in WIs who were thinking of disbanding or leaving because we want to remain trans inclusive! Sharing with our group now as a solution to keeping us together!

potpourree · 30/12/2025 19:34

It's perfectly fine to have a mixed-sex activity group. It just can't use funds explicitly set up for a group for female (trans or otherwise) people, because that is dishonest.

Seethlaw · 30/12/2025 19:35

"She warned that due to trans women being defined as biologically male by the Supreme Court ruling, to abide by equality laws the so-called sisterhood meetings would have to be opened up to men also. But she added: “As long as you’re keeping the business of it as women’s issues — so you know you’re still having a talk about ‘love your vulva’ and all of these sorts of things — my husband would find that he did not want to attend any sort of meeting like that whatsoever.”"

I think she will find that "love your vulva" is a transphobic topic to tackle around non-op transwomen.

Off you pop then.
Don't forget to raise your own funds.

you want to have a group to include men you go off and do you but the WI was set up for women and its funds can't be used for men u less it changes its charitable objects and amends its royal charter

there's nothing to stop the WI doing this of course. I wonder, given how sure they are, the the WI members are desperate to include men that they don't 🤔

Why do you want to “remain trans inclusive” so badly?
Does the fact that the majority of women joining the WI wanting it to actually be women only mean nothing to you?

Theeyeballsinthesky · 30/12/2025 19:42

Also I assume the WI is "trans inclusive" and includes trans men because they're biological women

as always with trans women - it's not because they're trans it's because they're men

What area of the country is your group in? I would like to finally join the WI after its recent announcement but would like a WI group that is in favour of following the law and being only for women.

ScarlettSunset · 30/12/2025 19:45

I think the WI overestimates how many women are truly supportive of men who pretend to be women joining.

When the announcement was made, some of my own group spoke up saying that excluding then was 'a disappointing step' or ' really backwards '. At the time, I posted on here, saying I was upset that so many people had said so, but now, when I look back, it wasn't really 'so many ' at all, it was just a couple who were particularly vocal, and everyone else just said nothing.

I personally am delighted that my WI group will get to remain women only. And I won't be participating in any 'sisterhood' activities at all (though I might advertise them to all the men I know who are not pretend women, but who might fancy popping along anyway)

Yes, in their rush to trample on women, TRAs frequently erase the existence of trans men by pretending that female-only groups won't include them.

It's dishonest and sexist.

Toseland · 30/12/2025 19:48

What a idiotic, dangerous and conniving woman. Set up your own "Sisterhood" away from the WI. I really dislike the idea of non-members paying just a fiver to attend, especially if they are all blokes excited to be talking about women's genitalia.

KilkennyCats · 30/12/2025 19:49

What do the men bring to the Women’s Institute, @MooPointCowsOpinion, that you would disband the entire group if they were no longer allowed to join? It’s farcical.
Or are you actually male, perhaps? That’s the only way it makes any sense.

Pretty much every other club and society around is mixed sex, what will be your club name/ USP?
'The Institute'? Bit sinister and also already a Stephen king novel

Are you going to let all men in, or are you going to discriminate against the ones without the right gender identity? Because I think that's pretty unfair...and also illegal

If by 'trans' you mean male people..then what would be the point of calling it The Women's Institute?

You're absolutely right, it is illegal to allow some men to join because they are trans, you have to let all men join, or none.

So if you send one man to the moon, you are legally obliged by the EA2010 to send them all there😁

ForCraftyWriter · 30/12/2025 20:00

Why can’t the WI remain trans inclusive by accepting ‘trans men’ into sessions? And forget about men altogether!

OpheliaWitchoftheWoods · 30/12/2025 20:00

"How can we have a mixed sex group - which will have men who identify as men and men who identify as women - while still calling it a women's group?"

Have fun with that. Have a new and exciting mixed sex group. And leave women who want and value women only spaces alone.

Except no, because there will be men distraught that this means they're not equally women to actual women.

Dear God this decade really needs to fuck off.

If you want to let male bodied people in, change your objects and do so and become mixed sex. And then you can let any man in who's interested in your activities and not just those who play on gender stereotypes.

Which just goes to show how ridiculous it is. How can you have a group for women where it's considered exclusionary or "phobic" to discuss a part of the body that all women and girls have?

wiffin · 30/12/2025 20:11

I'm probably classic target audience for the WI. Held off joining because of this. If I want mixed sex, I would do U3A or similar. Looks like I need to keep waiting to see where this goes.

This is exactly the mindset that has women like you keen to strip search other women to check their genitals. A movement that decreases women’s rights hiding as a movement protecting them, standard. Now any woman or girl can be forced into a strip search when just trying to go to the toilet, join a club, join a sport - yay! That makes us safer from men!

Hoppinggreen · 30/12/2025 20:16

If they allow men in it should just be called "the institute", which is ironic given that thats where some of them should be

Because "some women are born with a penis instead of a vulva" - which means that "love your penis" should also be a topic at those WI's Sisterhood meetings, actually. And if any non-TW man wants to join, well, too bad.

No, it doesn't make any sense, but that's very concretely what they are setting themselves up for. And if they think it won't happen, that TW "will be reasonable" and not make it all about themselves, well, I have a couple of bridges to sell.
