Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

Has Jolyon been to see The Producers? An accountant recommends putting on a show which is a massive flop so that the organisers can pocket the investors money.

Grin

As I recall, the fly in the ointment there is that the show ends up being a massive hit. The GLP appears to be following the accountant's advice more successfully.

It's Hoopla that will be taking the fall for this, not GLP. Maybe they're doing it as some kind of right on write off? 😉

MowingMachine · 09/12/2025 12:01

Just been poking around, and I've noticed a few tactical errors that they've made which may be contributing to the low ticket sales.

I'm not going to tell them what they are though 😆

Keep a note of them for any "told you so" conversations in future.

Definitely. Take a photo of them with today's newspaper to prove the date!

What a bunch of virtue-signalling, self-serving twats. Ugh.

Popbitch mentions ticket /seat filling agencies who hold onto a stash of tickets for performers then sell the tickets off cheap to try and get bums on seats. Be interesting to know if they're getting involved here. It might be that tickets from that back row get released nearer the time at a cheaper price

Yep, when I was a Newcastle University student we used to get free tickets on the day for the City Hall via the student union, because the acts wanted bums on seats to enhance the atmosphere especially if the performance was being filmed. There would be a tannoy announcement and you went to the office hatch in the student union lobby and it was one ticket per person. That was a loooong time ago!

I imagine there will be a big freebie ticket dump at Goldsmiths etc on the day.

We were talking GLP salaries well more info has come in.

jess (O'Thompson) gets paid £30k for 3 days a week "work" at Good Law Project. And is still moaning.

is that pro rata though?

Sold the windmill in 2022. Now allegedly pays himself the same as a backbench MP. However, the GLP isn't a charity so his frolics aren't regulated & the published accounts are very light on detail, a lot of expenses claims & er, interesting overheads could fall down the back of that sofa.
His former career, in which he amassed his pile, was in helping eye-wateringly wealthy people avoid paying their taxes, which IMO disqualifies him from being considered even remotely of the Left. Thoroughly on-brand for self-styled "Progressives" though.

The Guardian seem to have noticed that GLP isn't, in fact, a charidee:

  • This article was amended on 30 November 2025 because an earlier version incorrectly referred to the Good Law Project as a charity, when it is a not-for-profit organisation.

@Lalgarh and @TheAutumnCrow It is an old theatrical custom called Papering The House.

Chersfrozenface · 09/12/2025 16:38

Papering The House will make images of the event look better.

And I don't suppose it's mandatory for either organisers or supposed beneficiaries to publish how much profit was made and distributed.

Though you'd expect a financial success to be trumpeted, so even silence would tell us something.

FKAT · 09/12/2025 19:16

Papering the house was an old money laundering tactic of gang-connected showbiz promoters.

Obviously the Mighty Hoopla and GLP would never, NEVAH, be involved in such nefarious tactics.

Well, yes. As there will be no very little money to launder 😆

Mighty Hoopla are going to take a big hit on this, assuming that Wembley Arena asks for money up front. And as a PP said, sound people and set people etc all need to be paid. My worry is that, as happened with Manchester Pride going bust, they won't get paid.

ETA: Wait, that PP was you @FKAT. Just noticed who I was quoting 😆

You’ve just summed up pop culture 2016-2025!

I suppose it’s quite sensible for PR purposes really, get some young, diversely photogenic Goldsmiths undergrads in the prime seats, hide all the middle aged Malaga Airport Goers (who put their full-price tickets on credit cards usually reserved for the purchase of Wigs & Oversized Stillettos) in darkened spots where the publicity camera doesn’t pan?

Slothtoes · 09/12/2025 23:06

These bands seem to have really missed the point that if sex is not real then sexism, misogyny and homophobia aren’t real either, which must be causing them massive cognitive dissonance.

Edited

I think you over-estimate their cognitive abilities...

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/12/2025 02:32

Or the amount of thought they’ve actually put into any of it.

Chersfrozenface · 10/12/2025 07:51

The Teenage Cancer Trust has a number of benefit concerts in March next year at the Albert Hall. They include one with Wolf Alice on Sunday 29th.

Now this is an established series of concerts, the venue has a capacity of less than 6,000 and each musical gig just has just one headline and one support act, so a bit different. But I'd still like to see how tickets go once they're on sale from 9a.m. this Friday.

Wow. The Ovo Wembley Arena is bigger than that.

Do they really think they are going to fill this space with transes and "allies", on a wet Wednesday in March?

Isn't this all basically a tax loss scam a la The Producers

I think they actually believe there are thousands upon thousands of genderism supporters who will stump up for The Cause.

Lalgarh · 10/12/2025 12:04

In fact,... Given he's a tax lawyer first and foremost, and his propensity to lose expensive legal challenges brought on behalf of the various Social Justice causes he champions...

Is it possible he actually chooses loss making causes as part of a wider loss making strategy on purpose; or am I being cynical

The organisers are Mighty Hoopla - GLP and Not A Phase are just the intended beneficiaries of any money raised.

If anyone makes a loss it will be Mighty Hoopla, which is a private limited company.
