Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

On a slightly more serious note, just musing that the jibe about
can’t imagine a Sex Matters benefit gig filling more than a village hall is at least a half-truth, and goes to show the utterly fucked-up state of the business they call show.

Yes, any venture backed by KRR is always going to be able to fill a line up with entertainers.

Safely bankrolled by billionaires, but with soi disant edge.

ArabellaSaurus · 12/03/2026 10:57

A half full Wembley arena featuring celebs v a town hall full of the absolute worst Mumsnetters with their own sandwiches and bad puns?

🤔

Exactly, I'd be interested in having a rake through the financials once the glitter dust has settled

ArabellaSaurus · 12/03/2026 11:05

Its interesting that they can hire a big venue, get a good amount of known celebs, but cannot pull a crowd.

moto748e · 12/03/2026 11:08

Is that because the high-water mark for enthusiasm in their target audience is already past? If da yoof are less enamoured with gender nowadays, as we often hear?

Exactly. Proving women's activism is grass roots and the T thing is top down. .

Yet despite small numbers and no big backing, they successfully helped a small group of Scottish feminists win in the Supreme Court.

And Jolyon gets a half full Wembley, loads of mugs who donate to him, and wins sweet FA.

What a great inversely proportional relationship.

Chersfrozenface · 12/03/2026 11:21

A half full, if that, Wembley Arena. Not Stadium.

KitWyn · 12/03/2026 12:10

'Trans Mission' was held at Wembley Arena, which has 12,500 seats. So a good size, to be fair. Costs £35,000–£60,000 to rent per live day.

But the nearby Wembley Stadium capacity is 90,000 seats, largest in UK. It's over 7 times the size. Daily hiring cost is not available, as it's bespoke. But suggested to be around £1 million per day plus, when all fees are considered.

I wonder how many seat fillers were at the Arena? The derisory references to an overabundance of 'cis women', suggests quite a few only wanted to see, say, Sugababes, Beth Ditto, Adam Lambert and Beverley Knight for a low, low price. And the other stuff was just to be tolerated/endured.

This event must have been a bitter and embarrassing disappointment for JoMo, Olly-Wolly et al. It won't, surely, have raised very much after paying to rent the Arena, additional set up costs, plus the travel and accommodation for the acts?

Eagerly awaiting to see how the figures are massaged and wildly spun.

I can easily see thousands of people turning up for a Sex Matters benefit gig. Over the past few years, feminist conferences such as FiLiA have attracted thousands, while the Woman's Place UK meetings in obscure venues across the country attracted hundreds. And that was when the location had to be kept secret because on the occasions where it leaked out, women had to run the gauntlet of angry men shouting abuse at them and, on occasion, throwing water or letting off smoke bombs.

What you wouldn't get for a Sex Matters gig, however, is big-name celebrities agreeing to perform, because they're all too terrified of being cancelled.

The pointy fingers! 😂

Well this was a very entertaining thread until this most disturbing vision which I can’t unsee.

(excuse any spag errors I’m tired,)

I now have an ear worm of “Nosferatu” to the tune of “Don Giovanni”. Disturbing. Off to wash my eyeballs.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 12/03/2026 12:41

Communal eyeball wash along, anyone?

BackToLurk · 12/03/2026 12:44

The “no-one would go to a ‘terf’ event” seem to have completely missed Ricky Gervais :)

Wtf did Lambert have on his feet? Was he worried about blowing over? Did he really sing Ghost Town? Was it the one by the Specials? In view of the low attendance that could be seen as a little on the nose.

Are you 'no platforming' Adam Lambert, Cake?😁

Yes Wolf Alice were there, along with Adam Lambert who someone upthread was asking about. Didn’t Maya tell you that on X on was she too busy chatting absolute sh*t? Very odd behaviour paying to attend a benefit gig purely to write scurrilous nastiness ..pretty sure I wouldn’t pay a penny to sit through a gender critical alternative ..but I guess obsessional hatred takes you places.

The audience was largely cis women & gay men with a small proportion of trans folk (none of whom were waving their penises around in the shared loos threatening to rape people, strange that eh?). Good representation by NION women, those of us completely fed up by feminism being hijacked by bigotry & our names being used (which you are as much as your own) to propagate agendas that have absolutely nothing to do with our own beliefs.

Wembley was 3/4’s full - a bit over ambitious of the organisers to select it but then I can’t imagine a Sex Matters benefit gig filling more than a village hall given they’d be unlikely to get any artists keen to perform at it. Although I imagine you might get a few politicians, some of the Reform lot or perhaps Parker Posey’s mate Tommy Robinson back from an overseas grift. What delightful people the GC cause attracts.

As for last night, there were speeches of hope and inclusion and positivity as well as those of loss from a mother who had lost her daughter needlessly and tragically. A good night all in. And as for reading any replies to this, I’ll be washing my hair.

Don't worry, we'll enjoy ourselves just fine while you're lurking and pretending not to be here. The only thing funnier than this chronically-underattended bit of farce is the desperate attempts of trans allies to paint the evening as a smash success.

Yes Wolf Alice were there, along with Adam Lambert who someone upthread was asking about.

So, a minor indie band no longer at their peak, and American Rylan. Funny how this supposed youth movement couldn't attract more Gen Z.

Chappell Roan could make time to look po-faced at Paris Fashion Week, but couldn't squeeze this into her diary. And you know they would have rearranged the whole thing around her schedule if she'd had any interest in showing up. She clearly knew it'd be a flop right from the start.

Didn’t Maya tell you that on X on was she too busy chatting absolute sht?*

Chatting shit is rather the purpose of X, is it not? I'm sorry you were disappointed by Maya's coverage of the event. Presumably sheer boredom had stultified her mind. It's nice that you read all her tweets anyway.

Would you say your obsessional hate of Maya has taken you to strange places? Just curious.

Very odd behaviour paying to attend a benefit gig purely to write scurrilous nastiness ..pretty sure I wouldn’t pay a penny to sit through a gender critical alternative ..but I guess obsessional hatred takes you places.

It sounds like they couldn't give away tickets by the end. Anyway, this is what your average music journo does all the time. Doing a write-up of a dud concert for the laugh factor is not actually that odd.

"Scurrilous nastiness", though? You sound Victorian. Definitely too old to believe in gender ideology.

Don't worry, we all know you wouldn't attend a gender critical event. You might have a good time, or accidentally hear something you agree with! If you can't deafen yourselves with a kazoo, and bring along a Covid mask + giant sign to hide behind, it's far too risky. Clearly.

The audience was largely cis women & gay men with a small proportion of trans folk

TRA assumes the gender feels of strangers ✅

I wonder why there were so many gay men?

I wonder where all the lesbians were? 🤔

none of whom were waving their penises around in the shared loos threatening to rape people, strange that eh?

Shared loos? Grim.

Also grim: that you think the safety, dignity, and privacy of women doesn't matter. Who cares how they feel? If the AGPs weren't wanging their willies around and directly threatening rape, women have nothing to complain about! Right? Fascinating.

Also interesting that you imply the "trans folk" all had penises.

Good representation by NION women, those of us completely fed up by feminism being hijacked by bigotry & our names being used . . . to propagate agendas that have absolutely nothing to do with our own beliefs.

I presume "NION women" means "not in our name"?

The DARVO really is shameless with gendies. I think you've filled up my TRA bingo sheet with this section alone. Brava!

Be honest. You're not fed up with the hijacking. You're fed up with feminism! It's too much about women, and doesn't think enough about men with magical lady feels. It's just not for you. Maybe it's time to stop forcing a square peg into a round hole, and admit that. Embrace the reality that you are a handmaiden. It's a pretty crap life of reciting the gender catechisms and genuflecting to narcissists, but you get the warm righteous glow of Being A Good Person and Being On The Right Side Of History, and that makes up for it a little. Of course, that glow may become a burning fire of embarrassment later on, if history doesn't pan out quite the way you imagined. But that's a challenge for another day.

If the gender critical side is so tiny, why would it be "over-ambitious" for the trans side to select Wembley? Surely you're the majority? And you got so very, very many artists to perform. Why couldn't you fill Wembley?

Obligatory mention of Posie Parker ✅

Obligatory mention of Reform ✅

Obligatory mention of Tommy Robinson ✅

I assume your beef with the latter is that his grift is overseas, and not homegrown like Jolyon's? How is the Good Law Project going these days? 😂

And the less said about the sort of people the trans movement attracts, the better, don't you think? There have been a few too many rapists, murderers, and child abusers given pride of place at the parade, for you to have a leg to stand on there. Do you really want to compare Tommy Robinson to Stephen Ireland? Kelly Jay Keen to Sarah Jane Baker? Good luck with that.

As for last night, there were speeches of hope and inclusion and positivity as well as those of loss from a mother who had lost her daughter needlessly and tragically. A good night all in.

"There were speeches of fluffiness and bunnies and rainbows, and telling women to shut up and go away and stop hoarding rights like dinosaurs and literally, no, LITERALLY, killing us. And then we wheeled out the grieving mother of a mentally-ill child, and tried to pin it on the terfs wanting their own changing rooms, because that's just the kind of exploitative thing we do! It was heartwarming, it really was. Great night!"

What IS it about TRA ploppers and their use of purple prose??

It's possibly a fascinating cultural/sociolinguistic study for someone 🤔

I don’t think it is any more complicated than wanting to sound grown up and clever by using long words, mixed with the usual TRA tendency to be over dramatic. Which has the overall effect of burying any valid points that may actually be in there and generally making it unreadable. My eyes slide over too much people prose.

murasaki · 12/03/2026 13:32

They all think they're Judith Butler.

I'm partial to a bit of purple prose. Couldnt eat a whole one.

Don't you mean

I am not persuaded that the matter possesses any labyrinthine profundity beyond a rather adolescent yearning to project an aura of sagacity through the ostentatious deployment of sesquipedalian verbiage, conjoined—inelegantly—with the customary histrionic proclivities of the TRA milieu. The resultant concoction serves chiefly to inter any potentially legitimate observations beneath a sediment of florid circumlocution, rendering the whole enterprise perilously close to impenetrable. My eyes, in weary self‑defence, simply glide across such person‑generated effusions as though repelled by their own turgid ambition.

I just scroll past the overly long TRA screeds nowadays.

I’d rather read Purple Ronnie poems than purple prose (or Pink News).
