Spotted on the Guardian today:

Raising money for the kimono-clad fox-killer's "Good" Law Project.

Definitely one to avoid!

Sugababes, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Wolf Alice and more to play all-star charity concert for trans rights

Organised by Olly Alexander and the Mighty Hoopla festival to ‘fight back against the politics of fear and exclusion’, Trans Mission will take place at Wembley Arena in March

Also remember a lot of GLP's other costs are salary. A lot of JMs mates are probably getting paid decent salaries without having to actually win cases which is a great job for legal folks.

Salary's one thing but doesn't the GLP go in for a lot of consulting allegedly expert silks? Unless they're all offering their services out of the goodness of their hearts, there are some hefty external fees to pay.

HI @FKAT, could we ask for some more of your events expertise, please?

How do ticket sales for events usually go? I'm guessing there is an early surge, when they first go on sale. Then a bit of a sag. A bit of steady selling. And then a late surge, when people are re-advertising and social media is mentioning the event because it's about to happen?

Because it seems to me, that this event hasn't had much of an early surge. We don't know the unreserved standing sales, but we can see the poor balcony sales, and extrapolate.

HildegardP · 04/12/2025 18:19

Anybody else repeatedly getting a "session expired" message before the damn site gets around to showing which tickets are avialable?
I would be highly entertained if the site's borked.

It's fine for me. Using Firefox.

What a shame. You won't be able to buy tickets! 😢

Not an expert, but definitely better than this....

Any chance this thing won’t break even ..?

Noticed Wolf Alice is now *Acoustic (pretty sure it wasn’t before, that one hurt)

Penny dropping that there’s no funds for roadies, sessions musician etc etc?

No, it was alway acoustic. At least Wolf Alice realised that the sound will not be up to their usual standard.

I always think that's a good way of explaining a gap in your CV. No one will ever know whether it's true or not and who's going to trawl through The Sugababes archive to find out? It could take weeks.

That made me laugh out loud. Thanks

Like I say, I don't work on this sort of event scale but broadly yes you are right. PR / social media announce ahead of tickets going on sale will drive the majority of sales on day 1. Depending on artist / venue it might sell out straight away or churn along until there's an upswing a few days before.

A quick visual comparison between Trans Mission and Ken Carson (whose Wembley gig is a few days after that on 16 March - tickets went on sale this morning) is useful. All standing is gone for Ken Carson (as you'd expect) and the majority of sections are showing as sold. Whereas the majority of Trans Mission seats are still available.

ContentedAlpaca · 05/12/2025 20:20

I wonder if they'll be offered on seat filler sites

Wow. Had never heard of Ken Carson (am old and white). The whole Arena is sold out now, except for some spenny VIP tickets.

ETA: Thanks so much for your input! As a PP says, if the tickets go on seat filler sites, I guess there will be even less money after costs.

Still, maybe they will identify as having made a profit!! 😆

ETAA: I wonder if seats will magically be being offered for free "by charities" etc nearer the day...

FKAT · 05/12/2025 21:32

Yeah, the culture is so fragmented - there are so many artists who we have never heard of that can sell out Wembley / 02 etc. Sadly not poor Jolyon and friends though.

Ken Carson is big in my house (norf laanndaaan teenage boys innit) so not surprised at all to see he's nearly sold out in 24 hours.

Many events also hold sections back to sell out other areas, and then release more in tranches.

Sales really vary widely, but for a large venue like this it's generally big names so sales are brisk.

(Old BO staff)

I'd expect Sugababes and Dancefloor lady to sell well, though. Maybe the thought of being preached at is off putting.

Stopbringingmicehome · 07/12/2025 10:08

Has Jolyon been to see The Producers? An accountant recommends putting on a show which is a massive flop so that the organisers can pocket the investors money.

That would be a very cunning plan.

We were talking GLP salaries well more info has come in.

jess (O'Thompson) gets paid £30k for 3 days a week "work" at Good Law Project. And is still moaning.

WTF?

lol.

as an aside, I find it quite amusing that ‘Ken Carson’ is a stage name. His real name is Kenyatta Lee Bettis Frazier Jr, which seems far more rap-showbiz-pizazz-y to my Brit ears, and Ken Carson sounds like a Coronation Street character (but then I do have a soft spot for Southern US naming conventions, my ex husband is a ‘iii’ 😬😂)

Same! Quick look on YT suggests I haven't missed much.

Ha, yes, exactly! 😃
