Anyone wanting to support greens but really stuck on their trans beliefs and policies?

I haven’t heard anything else that I disagree with, but I’m so disappointed by the outright ‘trans women are women statement’ and consequent policies. In my view this attitude doesn’t fit with the other green policies. Here we are saying that women are an unimportant subspecies, and that the wants of a very small number of trans identifying males trump the rights and needs of all the actual females.

How is anyone squaring this in their minds? Can you bring yourself to vote Green?

Yep, the gender woo is why I can't and won't vote for them. Same with Lib Dems. Our local greens guy round here is pretty good on local stuff, but I saw he sent a gushing tweet to that bloke once (the greens candidate with a bad wig who I believe stole his ex wife's maiden name and cried transphobia on bbc midlands), so now I won't vote for him either!

HermioneWeasley · 11/11/2025 11:18

They are the absolute extreme end of trans activism

rhey are pro pimp

they want to legalise all drugs

their leader thinks he can hypnotise women’s breasts to grow

they make student politics look sophisticated and nuanced

It has been reported that they also want to reduce funding for Police and cancel all drug restrictions. (Class As for all?). I believe this was from the Platform at their conference.

I'm an old - a very old - hippie. But this is barking mad. I do have a vague memory of the Federation of Conservative Students proposing this back in the 80s. It's just a business to them , likewise prostitution. A Tory with a spliff is still a Tory. But whatever about a spliff , legalising the awful synthetic opioids is not going to be a vote winner.

EmeraldRoulette · 11/11/2025 11:23

I would think really carefully about the Green drugs policy as well

I completely understand the argument about bodily autonomy

I think the reality of increasing levels of drug use is pretty grim though. I've seen it in the US as well as here.

there's a lot of issues with the Greens but people seem to think it's a party that's got strong connections with the environment. It never has. I remember one of their prominent London leaders going everywhere by taxi when it was a reasonable walk or an easy bus journey. This is back in the day where taxis were belching out fumes.

Beowulfa · 11/11/2025 11:24

Aside from unscientific gender-woo, I do not want to vote for a party that contains so many people obsessed with Palestine. Of course MPs and councillors can express concerns about foreign policy, but their time should be prioritised for local issues impacting their constituents. Then national concerns if they're an MP.

I don't think many people entering politics realise quite how mundane much of it actually is; bin collections, residential parking, planning permission, adult social care etc. Boring and unglamorous, but essential. Not much time left over for flag waving and chanting.

Violettree · 11/11/2025 11:25

I am in agreement. I cannot vote Green while they cannot respect womens needs for safe spaces. True Transwomen I have no issue with, but allowing any man the chance to self identify as a women, to gain access to womens spaces is just bonkers.

NellieJean · 11/11/2025 11:35

I’m stuck on the complete lack of reality they demonstrate. Does anyone really think they are fit to form a government or even be part of a coalition.

LongOutBreath · 11/11/2025 12:40

I probably broadly agree with them on drugs (from a harm prevention POV) and Palestine. I need to look more at their other policies. Are they keeping the gender bollocks stuff slightly quiet? I know a lot of people quite interested in them currently who definitely aren't into gender bollocks.

LongOutBreath · 11/11/2025 12:41

I'm v worried about such a split left wing vote and what that means for reform however.

Desmondhasabarrow · 11/11/2025 12:47

I voted green every single election (both in general and local) from when I was 18 until 5 years ago when they made clear that they chose men with fetishes over the safety of women.

. They are losing the support of people with strong environmental beliefs because they’d rather prioritise the blue haired brigade. Totally insane choice but nothing I can do about it.

LikeAHandleInTheWind · 11/11/2025 12:50

If you are still tempted to vote Green have a look at how the Scottish Green party have performed in government- screwed up the deposit return scheme on recyclable bottles (gov now being sued by Biffa), voted against victims of rape being able to chose the sex of their medical examiner, banned new wood burning stoves despite gov reports showing them to be a low CO2 option, part and parcel of the ferries disaster and escalating violence in schools...
They are a bunch of incompetents who are not fit to be MPs or MSPs.

ArabellaSaurus · 11/11/2025 12:57

Ex member of both GPEW and SGP.

I'm afraid that although there are many good and sensible and very principled people in the Greens, the party/ies have been taken over by zealots who have very little interest in environmental issues.

I consider a party actively harmful to the environment, when it purports to be 'the' environmental party, but in fact does nothing to either promote good practise or counter harmful environmental issues.

Most voters aren't party members. Most members don't attend conferences.

Most people who put a tick in the box do so because they want green issues prioritised.

Unfortunately, that's not what they're actually voting for.

In fairness the Green deputy leader objected to asylum seekers being housed in an army camp. Not the same as refusal to have them in her constituency.

Did she object to soldiers being housed there too?

HostaCentral · 11/11/2025 13:38

As pp's, there are a whole list of reasons why I wouldn't vote green. They are extreme Left wing loons with very little actual understanding of anything, let alone biology.

Rednorth · 11/11/2025 13:40

I'm stuck on the Polanski being a hypnotist, thinking he can hypnotise women to having bigger breasts... Bloke is an absolute grifter.

I'll be voting independent from here on.

captainoctopus · 11/11/2025 13:49

Has anyone knowledge of policies of green parties in other countries? Do any of them have a better grip on how to run a country?

Mapletree1985 · 11/11/2025 14:16

I used to be a very active green supporter, and environmental issues are still the ones that sway my vote. But even if the Green Party had some sensible policies, and weren't misogynists, I don't think they are capable of forming an effective government. They indulge in too much wishful thinking. They aren't practical or realistic.

Lovelyview · 11/11/2025 14:34

While I am completely on board with tackling climate change the Greens are a bunch of loons. I admit I've moved away from supporting 'progressive' left-wing politics over the past few years so I probably wouldn't vote for them even if they were gender critical. I did an online questionnaire before the last election which said I should support the Lib Dems. Ha. That's not going to happen. Very amusingly, the Greens have a radical immigration policy in which all immigrants should be immediately 'treated a citizens' but Green councillor Rachel Millward is up in arms about plans to locate 600 migrants in her area - Wealdon, East Sussex.

PP has already answered about Scotland

Both the Greens and the Lib Dems are a no-go for me due to all the trans-women nonsense.

This leaves the Tories, Labour or Reform.

Mind boggling. And Labour position forced by the courts…

I’m in the same position.

Mini2025 · 11/11/2025 16:04

@illuminada it makes me wish there were no political parties, there were just policies which parlimentary officials are legally bound to enact within 6 months of the votes taking place and we are an electorate could vote on each individual one so for instance:

1a. Transwomen are not women and no be allowed in women's sports, toilets, safe spaces, prisons, hospital wards, changing rooms etc. Being a woman is due to biological sex and cannot be changed.

1b. Transwomen are women. They should be allowed in all spaces and can self-identify

2a. Immigration will be limited at 100,000 per year and after that all legal or illegal aliens will be repatriated or sent back to the country they came from, ie France

2b. Immigration will be unfettered, anyone can come to the UK.

Then we could vote every year to course-correct if we see things aren't going in the direction we want.

I don't feel like I live in a democracy anymore. We vote every 5 years for a bunch of lies. No one is accountable anymore for anything. They get into power and then do exactly what they want.

No party represents my policies anymore.

JamieCannister · 11/11/2025 16:24

"Anyone wanting to support greens but really stuck on their trans beliefs and policies?"

No, not at all. That's like saying "I really want the Yorkshire Ripper to be my next husband, but I'm stuck on the mass murderer thing".

Having medical malpractice in service of an incoherent homophobic and misogynistic cult that's a massive threat to child safeguarding as a key policy renders ever single other thing you say to be of no value.
