this money will go towards CCTV, alarms and fencing round mosques….

Meanwhile there are SO MANY other areas of the country that are desperate for a financial boost….Why is this one religion put on a pedestal? This particular religion that doesn’t treat women as equals.

Government announces £10million to increase ghettoisation and protect abusers... Remember, in UK there should only be British communities - integrate or leave. Identity politics and Ghettoes are bad, particularly this sort. https://t.co/eG24COsLpM

"The Bible is full of misogyny, and conservative Christian churches continue to perpetuate this,"

I'm not sure what you mean by "conservative" ?

Westboro Baptist Church ?

Google is often a good starting point if you don't know something.

What Is Conservative Christianity

For those who think it's easier to annoy you than to Google 'What is conservative christianity ' themselves.

No force teaming here. I stand with Israel. I doubt that Gaza has much time for men cosplaying as women, though.

I doubt that Gaza has much time for anything at the moment other than trying not to get slaughtered.

Noted and edited. I came across a situation where I was working with a Muslim female client who didn't drive due to religious factors, and others in the office said they had more than one client like that, so made the assumption based on personal experience but you're right, i cannot claim it is mainstream practice based on that experience alone.

I think you’re lying. What religious reason could be given

Well I do recall that women in Saudi couldn’t drive
Until the 2018 law change but this was objected to by the religious heads

when you say “what religious reason” well that’s rather daft because religious rules are made usually by men and they can make up anything they like. edit just like Christianity . But once it has the veneer of religion the devout follow it because that’s what faith is - faith that those men were following the word of God. And when you have multiple sects ( just the same as Christianity) you end up with groups following different rules with absolute conviction

Your post seems tad sarcastic.

I wanted to know what you meant by 'conservative', not a google definition.

Being on the 'same page' facilitates communication.

It's a common term, and I was using it in the common way. I think most people understand what it means.

Well I've never heard it before.

Making assumptions about what people do and don't know isn't helpful and causes confusion.

Also it only has meaning if the term is defined wrt actual churches.

People seem to want equivalence between religions when there isn’t that.

Making assumptions about what people do and don't know isn't helpful and causes confusion.

We all make assumptions about what people know and don't know - we do it all the time, and conversations wouldn't ever flow properly we didn't make at least some assumptions.

It is likely that most people with a passing interest in current affairs will know what "conservative Christianity" generally refers to - it is hardly a niche term. I had assumed - perhaps wrongly - that people commenting on this thread might have such an interest and therefore a general awareness.

It's very common on these boards for posters to ask disingenuous "faux naive" questions about things which are seemingly obvious, usually because they want to pick a fight about semantics. It didn't occur to me that anyone would actually be unaware of a common concept like "conservative Christianity", and so I assumed that this was what you were doing. If you genuinely didn't know, then I apologise for making that assumption.

Sorry that had nothing to do with the thread, but seriously. The church of england isn’t doing chats on the appropriate way to stone women.

Please tell me this isn’t true, not in this country at least?

Don't start threads with an OP based on something you read on X.

That's the equivalent of hearing someone shouting in a pub.

Read intelligent sources, on websites that have some accountability for fact-checking and verifying.

HTH

this information is available on the UK gov website. I just read about it 1st on X hence shared that tweet.

And controlling men will have even more desire to follow it.

I suppose you could question why religious groups in particular are eligible for funding from the government for these security measures - but not other organisations.

Especially as many I presume do have the money to pay for these measures (fences, CCTV) themselves because people value their religious buildings and often donate to it.

Unfortunately vandalism is common across a wide range of community assets. Had it happen to those I am involved with.

And there are many public places that could do with more or better CCTV. Saying this have been assaulted in an area where apparently that was pretty common (!), but no CCTV.

Edited

Obviously funding is available for crime prevention measures for non-religious institutions - in fact far more than the £20m ringfenced for Jewish and Muslim institutions. We got funding for CCTV for our community centre from our local council. A quick google search shows that just London has a £52m fund for community crime prevention measures.

ThatZanyFatball · 24/10/2025 04:14

No where did I say Muslims or anyone deserves to be victims of hate crimes. My post was intended to point out your blatently manipulative straw man argument equating present practices in Islam with present, mainstream Judaism and Christianity - which has nothing to do with the funding or lack thereof of security measures or hate crimes. This is why frankly I, like others, believe this whole thread was started by a fake post just to drum up a bunch of troll comments.

Your post equated an extreme application of Islam - forced hijab, being prevented from driving or being alone with a man - as a mainstream experience. That’s false.

I have no interest in generating content for shitposters, but if you’re so concerned about them why are you saying such absurd things?

saraclara · 24/10/2025 09:24

GrassesSedgesRushes · 23/10/2025 18:40

But what about the other 98% of crimes against churches? Why are you focusing on 2% that involve lead theft?

Churches are not being set alight with people inside. The security for mosques and synagogues is about protecting people. Because the attacks on those buildings are based on hate, not theft or idle vandalism.

Where does this leave muslim feminists, such as many members of Southall Black Sisters? Or the Iranian Feminist Resistance? Or those advocating for women's rights in Afghanistan? Or the extremely active Malaysian feminist movement?

Saying women should be excluded from the feminist movement because of their faith is shameful.

If women can't speak clearly and freely on this subject then we are on very dangerous ground.

I'm reminded of how we weren't allowed to speak of the dangers of transgenderism on this board not that long ago, @mnhq don't need to embarrass themselves by being on the wrong side of history again.
