Trans people frightened to leave homes, says MP

"Trans people are frightened to go out or use public toilets after the Supreme Court ruling which defined a woman in terms of biological sex, a Labour MP has said."

"Rachel Taylor, who is a member of the women and equality select committee, described the interim guidance put forward by the equality and human rights commission after the ruling as “dangerous” and “incorrect”."

There was an episode of Cracker (Robbie Coltrane) with a pivotal moment around urinal selection (I.e there was someone else in there when the murder took place)

netflixfan · 29/09/2025 15:23

Honestly is this thing just toilet based? How do they think trans ladies coped in the 50s 60s 70 s ?
With discretion and imagination that’s how.

Applepe · 29/09/2025 15:26

Some women are frightened to walk the streets alone. Surely the lived experience is what they want?

PrincessC0nsuelaBananaHammock · 29/09/2025 15:27

Bless their poor, fragile little hearts. Maybe they should just stay home then? After all, isn't that what they told women to do when we opposed pervs in our spaces?

Ah yes. Very good point.

No, it's not just toilet based, it's about everything to do with women as a sex class, their rights, their safety, privacy and dignity. It's about fairness (in sport and things like all women short lists or awards); it's about free speech : the freedom to call a man a man; it's about logic and common sense: 1 can never equal 0.

Also, cross dressing men have existed, as you say since the 50s or before.("Trans ladies", what a horrible phrase). No doubt some male cross dressers snuck into the women's toilets. A lot will have been clocked immediately as men but women were either too "polite" or too scared to mention it. Possibly a few snuck in unnoticed - knowing that morally they should not be there. Those type of men probably have poor morals generally.

Thanks. Nah, my instinct was to be furious not terrified. He was quite literally a pathetic little wanker.

I've no problem kicking up a loud fuss in public. But would my granny have felt able to do that? Or my little niece? Or countless other women and girls who would have frozen in fear? And why should they have to, in a space that is designated for them?

You are right, it's completely and utterly fucking mental that we've reached this point.

Yeh I think it’d be fury in reality faced with that.

This is a wide ranging report on the provision of public toilets from 2008. It didn’t shy away from any topic but there was no mention of transgender people and toilets.

Not to get too political about this, but Marxism is supposed to be based on philosophical materialism. And the socialist analysis of women's oppression is supposed to be based on female reproductive capacity i.e. the material female body.

You would be amazed at the number of left-leaning men I know who don't seem to realise that women don't pee standing up.

But there's no excuse for Rachel Taylor not knowing this.

moto748e · 29/09/2025 16:11

So we've got men who don't seem to realise that women don't pee standing up, and women who aren't sure whether they are women cos they haven't had their chromosomes tested. The world seems to regressing into idiocy.

You actually can pee standing up as long as you're not wearing trousers or tights.

But I digress...

Grammarnut · 29/09/2025 16:17

It's incorrect to say that biological women (and men) are what is meant in the EA 2010? Howso?
The EHRC is following the law. Which has stated that transwomen are men and transmen are women.
Does Labour wish to change the law? Very probably but won't dare because of the backlash from people who do not agree that TWAW - 99% of us.

When I had my Ancestry DNA done, I didn't have to tell them my pronouns. They could tell my sex from some saliva in a tube.

But people with doctorates in "studies" tell me that you can't possibly know someone's sex, so what do those geneticists know.

Shortshriftandlethal · 29/09/2025 16:19

Echobelly · 29/09/2025 12:09

My friend's fiancee is a trans woman and she's certainly scared about loos. She has decided she's sufficiently worried about getting attacked or otherwise punished for using women's loos where there's not a neutral alternative that she'll use the men's. Thus far has to put up with 'I think you're in the wrong toilets love' (she is a small, slight woman who you can't 'always tell' is trans) from men and thank God nothing worse yet, but she's already very introverted and socially anxious and this is not helping.

Maybe, but the solution is not to make women feel uncomfortable.

Even bloody ancestry uses gender not sex in its language.

oopsHereItIs · 29/09/2025 13:54

Yes, I don't disagree with that.

My point was about places that (work around the law and) change the womens into unisex toilets so anybody can use it; so in that regards, there is no female toilets in those buildings but 'unisex' and 'mens'.

Ah, ok, sorry I misunderstood. I'm with you on finding that totally unacceptable. It's not the solution.

RedToothBrush · 29/09/2025 16:22

I know. They should fix that, but you know how Americans are about the word sex.

The genealogy subreddits sometimes have woke discussions about "how should I record this ancestor who have have identified as transgender". No you absolute muppets. If you're talking about descent and genetics, you're specifically talking about sex and not projecting some current year concept of gender identity onto past generations. Lord knows I have enough trouble with my great-grandfather who had multiple wives and a side hustle of impregnating his friends' wives without wondering what the old bastard's pronouns were.

I worry that we've produced a generation who don't know how the human species reproduces.

It would explain the ever decreasing birth rate. They don't know what's what or where to put what. 🤣

It's a good thing cis-rapists respect door signs...

Edited

There’s no such thing as ‘cis’. They’re men, just the same as men that call themselves ‘trans women’.

Alucard55 · 29/09/2025 19:46

So men are scared to go out in public now?

I do understand that a transwoman who passes might feel awkward using the gents. But I absolutely refute that they are at more risk (and probably much much less) than my 10 year son who also uses the gents.

They don’t pass.

LGBT+ Labour lists this MP as part of the “Chris Smith List”; a list of LGBT+ candidates in receipt of funding from LGBT+ Labour in support of their campaigns.

That’s good, maybe she can go and work for them, because if current polling is to be believed she’ll be losing her seat to Reform at the next election.

I think that the debate has become hateful. I’ve said previously that some of the comments on here are beyond unnecessary. Immature, some of them. I always get a pile on for saying it, but it’s true. Nobody has heeded the judges warnings about not letting it get here. It’s not necessary. Not all trans people are fighting to use women toilets or doing awful things. I’m sure many aren’t. Keep them out of women’s spaces, fine, I agree. But then let it go and leave people alone.

I’m assuming that you have reported the comments that have offended you?Presumably you are outraged by the amount of men pretending to be women, who have, since the SC ruling, posted pictures of themselves in women’s toilets, some of them captioned with ‘another day destroying women’s rights’? Because they are very deliberately and intentionally breaking the law, and I can’t imagine you would go along with that would you?
