I agree people are going to talk about huge stories, but I still think there’s a line between discussing a story, and letting rumours that handily fit our confirmation bias run rampent.

Last night loads of people who never generally post in FWR suddenly sprang out of the woodwork to assure us the shooter was trans. I don’t like feeling like I’m being manipulated for someone’s political agenda, no matter what it is.

Are you talking about another thread? Because I don’t recall “loads” of non FWR posters talking about trans on this one, just a couple, and I’ve been on it from the start. It is the subject of the OP, so it explains why people are addressing that.

Not sure if it was your one, but the one I saw was absolutely horrendous. It really affected me.

You expect it to an extent on other platforms, but to see it here, and so many was really eye opening.

I know. I posted the one that was on this (FWR) board, not the one on the main board which was awful (mine was short but heading down the same path).

Gotta admit, even I didn't expect 'gender critical' activists go from hard pretending to be feminists to lauding over a man who wanted women back in the kitchen with all reproductive rights stripped from them. Perhaps I should have expected they'd go that extreme after they were busily cavorting with the Heritage foundation a few years back.

Also, the billionaire funder quoting Hitler is just the icing on the cake.

Judith Butler was so very correct.

Not one single poster on this thread has lauded over him, but willful dishonesty and deceit is your stock in trade.

Over on BlueHair they have so very kindly, liberally and progressively suggested that “JK Rowling should be next”:

The initial reports were that the bullets had trans and anti-fascist engravings on them. A lot of discussion on social media that bullets produced by Turan Ammo have "TRN" on them, and the media briefing did confirm the anti-fascist messages.

But as usual there are people who have to make trans people the victim in every event, making accusations that people were claiming that the suspect was trans and that trans people get blamed.

NotMyNigelFarage · 12/09/2025 16:18

Guessed it would be an antifa nutter that shot him. Was not wrong.

Datun · 12/09/2025 16:29

I wonder if the killer is somebody who he had engaged with on a college campus. Maybe he made him look stupid or something.

Can’t say I agree with you on Judith Butler but I do share your sentiments re this forum’s minimisation of CK’s abhorrent views on everything bar the trans issue.

Various posters on this thread praise his ‘kindness’ and his willingness to debate, as though it erases his dangerous far right rhetoric and activism.

As a white middle class woman, I never really understood what people meant by White Feminism.

But it does seem that for many gender critical feminists, the trans thing is THE only issue that matters. Or at least, it matters to them in a way that racism and/or other forms of oppression or any other major issue like the environment just doesn’t.

We all have.
Well, if we have eyes, anyway.

Bee

Even by your standards trying to weaponise people’s revulsion for an ideological assassination into a points scoring exercise is low.

Nobody should be murdered for expressing opinions that others find challenging or even downright offensive not Charlie Kirk, nor any other right wing, centrist, left wing, GC, TRA, espouser of Q*r theory, TERF, liberal, bigot, religious zealots, atheist etc etc.
Not one of them no matter how much I or any other FWR poster disagrees with them. Having opinions shouldn’t be a death sentence.

They have. There have been at least a couple of posts from people praising him, including his views.

If you go back and check the thread, you’ll find them.

It certainly isn’t dishonest or deceitful to say so.

Said they agreed with him on the trans issue, yes. But they certainly didn't laud' him, that's for sure. So yes it is willfully dishonest and deceitful.

It’s really that simple, and any equivocation is quite telling. There’s even a poster here fawning over Bee’s post just to have a dig about women on FWR.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/09/2025 16:48

People have praised his debating and engaging. No one has praised him for gun views, anti abortion or racism, have they?

Obviously nobody has praised his hateful racist rhetoric.

But it’s been skimmed over and minimised because he engaged in debate and was “polite” and “kind” while he was saying stuff about the civil rights act having been a mistake, etc.

As usual on MN, a range of views have been expressed.

I take it Bee hasn’t seen wor Bernie Sanders’ speech condemning the murder.

Sorry haven't read the thread but this is disgusting and says a lot about the current state of the left. Sorry if it's already been posted.

Have you ever considered the idea that women can be concerned about more than one thing at a time, but sometimes have to prioritise the most important one, which at the moment is the removal of their fundamental rights to SSS?

TheJoyOfWriting · 12/09/2025 17:07

Just catching up - was the shooter trans or not? Did the bullet have trans writing on or was that false?

No clear link to anything trans.

From what little is known, his background seems relatively comfortable and boring.

He had access to and grew up with guns, to a degree that seems very odd in the UK, but I don't know what is normal in the US.
