Shall we take bets that if those users are based in the UK they will be having their collars felt by the Boys in Blue anytime soon?

Don't be ridiculous, they aren't comedians writing rude tweets or middle aged women asking politicians what a woman is.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-15086277/Charlie-Kirks-final-words-assassinated-Utah-dead.html

I didn’t agree with many of his political views, but I liked how he interacted with college students who couldn’t answer the question “what is a woman?”.

Gotta admit, even I didn't expect 'gender critical' activists go from hard pretending to be feminists to lauding over a man who wanted women back in the kitchen with all reproductive rights stripped from them. Perhaps I should have expected they'd go that extreme after they were busily cavorting with the Heritage foundation a few years back.

Also, the billionaire funder quoting Hitler is just the icing on the cake.

Judith Butler was so very correct.

My bbc coverage has cut out at the inscription part. Is that everywhere?

Quite. After all punch them in the balls is so much worse than this:

I’m glad that guy died but they’re going really hard on the ‘Ohh this is a dark day for America’ about a guy I had never heard of until he was shot. Can we get JK Rowling next? The UK would be unbearable about it but it’s for the greater good of trans people.”

Looks like the bio has a Scottish flag.

RayonSunrise · 12/09/2025 15:13

The most political wording on any of the ammo was: “Hey fascist. Catch.”

The WSJ really overcooked what had been found.

Signalbox · 11/09/2025 18:32

I just worry for the high profile feminists. For some on the extreme left they consider us to be as fascistic as they consider CK to be. Whether or not you thought he was a nice man is kind of irrelevant. The fact is a person has (likely) been shot for his opinions. I don’t know why this wouldn’t concern us all.

Signalbox, can I ask which of his views do you think have been represented? So far it seems quite a lot of his comments on race have been, also his views on guns, empathy, and Leviticus.

I loathed a lot of his opinions but it's dishonest and cowardly to claim a murdered man thought things he didn't actually.

"Bella ciao" is an Italian song strongly associated with anti-fascist resistance in WW2 in Italy.

Bluesky is a space where violent misogyny is fine.

This. He’s either antifa or pretending to be.

Hence the TRAs, MRAs and Incels absolutely love it.

That’s interesting. I’m still pretty disgusted at how many people were jumping on every rumour they could last night. FFS let law enforcement do their damned jobs!

I agree, but I think it’s inevitable that people will leak things in the feverish media/social media landscape of today, and of course people will discuss it.

SionnachRuadh · 12/09/2025 15:29

It will be interesting to see what his background is.

The thing about Utah is, parts of the state - specifically the rural, overwhelmingly Mormon parts - really do live up to all the stereotypes of Utah conservatism. But the Salt Lake metro area is full of transplants from California who move there for lower taxes, lower crime and better schools, and bring California culture with them including far-left campus politics. The culture clash there is very live, and only papered over by traditional Mormon politeness.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/09/2025 15:31

From what I’ve seen reported of his social media, he looks like a fairly normal guy with a close family.

I agree with you.
I started one of the threads about Charlie Kirk that was taken down by Mumsnet (at my request). I'm heartened to see this thread hasn't descended into the madness that I was faced with but is, as I had imagined it would be, full of measured, calm and considered views.

When I posted, tensions were high. Charlie Kirk had been injured but his fate was unknown. It was truly horrific to see the vile posts about him and at the anger that was being directed at me for having the gall to post about him on a feminist board. People were questioning my motives, my identity (calling me a TRA when I'm an Irish GC woman) . My reason for posting was because I only knew him in the context of his gender critical discussions, I was shocked that he had been shot for sharing his opinions and worried about what it meant for society and for free speech and where this would lead us.
It was very upsetting during the course of that discussion, and feeling the wrath of people's vitriol, to hear he had died and to see the lack of empathy people had for a young family man with a wife and two kids. I can only imagine what it must be like for people to deal with online/in person abuse every day and am I extremely worried about where this will all go. It's exposed a very ugly side of human nature and I think open honest discussion is the best way forward.

Not sure if it was your one, but the one I saw was absolutely horrendous. It really affected me.

You expect it to an extent on other platforms, but to see it here, and so many was really eye opening.

Merrymouse · 12/09/2025 15:45

From the Daily Mail article, there is too much of a cultural chasm for me to understand what happened.

I would need to now far more than I will ever know about gun culture in the US.

MrsFrumble · 11/09/2025 13:29

We don’t know who shot him and we don’t know why.

This!!there appears to be a lot of hand wringing about being killed for ‘opinions’ - we do not know what the motive was

I agree people are going to talk about huge stories, but I still think there’s a line between discussing a story, and letting rumours that handily fit our confirmation bias run rampent.

Last night loads of people who never generally post in FWR suddenly sprang out of the woodwork to assure us the shooter was trans. I don’t like feeling like I’m being manipulated for someone’s political agenda, no matter what it is.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/09/2025 15:52

We do know who shot him now, @LimeShaker- we don’t know why but it appears that antifa slogans and a command from a video game were engraved on the ammunition.

May be you are someone who believes in #no debate.

Until several days ago, I had not heard of Charlie Kirk, so I listened to the Americast podcast (BBC) and learned that he was all about debate, that he loved debating with young people, hearing their views and taking their questions.

No debate is the antithesis of FWS. We debate things, we believe in freedom of speech. Do you honestly think that someone deserves to be killed for holding different views? I may not accept everything that Charlie Kirk said or stood for but I stand by freedom of speech and not shutting down those with a different point of view, whether by use of a bullet or otherwise.
