I'm not a member of his family. I'm a rational member of the public, being told by hysterics like you that I "lack human decency" because I'm not responding as though he was my close relative or my hero.

The "morally correct way" would be to put this in the context of contemporary US political extremism, to which Kirk was a contributor. And in this context, it's not at all surprising.

And for those of us who are not American and not responsible for their culture and politics, and not able to influence such matters, it's of little consequence.

Its your lack of humanity that’s the problem. It’s a society problem. You don’t have the moral high ground here. You are contributing to a hyped up situation where people are being polarised which is global. Social media is not confined to country borders.

The far-right being the only promoters of political violence in western democracies is such a stuck-in-the-20th-century way of thinking. Have people not noticed the changes in the last two decades or so? The 'Anti' in 'Antifa' performs the same function as the 'Democratic' in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Exactly.

Signalbox · 11/09/2025 18:32

I just worry for the high profile feminists. For some on the extreme left they consider us to be as fascistic as they consider CK to be. Whether or not you thought he was a nice man is kind of irrelevant. The fact is a person has (likely) been shot for his opinions. I don’t know why this wouldn’t concern us all.

Talkinpeace · 11/09/2025 18:34

We have the strictest gun controls in the world. So strict that our medal-winning olympic pistol team can only practice with air pistols in the UK and have to go overseas to practice with the real thing

Exactly, and I think this is one of the main reasons this thread is in FWR. Women are in danger from radicalised men who feel entitled and resentful. As I posted, Bluesky posters (the supposedly kind, moral Twitter) are openly saying that JK Rowling should be next.

Seriously! If this is true I am no longer indifferent. That is shocking.

As I understand it, he argued something closer to "some [patriot] should bail him out for £30k or so, and ask him questions about his motivations so that the media is forced to acknowledge it" rather than "some patriot should bail him out and hold a celebratory party for how great he was".

I was only loosely familiar with Charlie Kirk's work from other people mentioning him but afaict he was an outspoken advocate of conservative/Republican policies like anti-abortion, pro-2A etc but I think people are trying to portray him as someone who just gleefully celebrated the deaths/attacks of children, Pelosi's husband etc out of sheer joy of being evil, and I think that's a mischaracterisation.

TheJoyOfWriting · 11/09/2025 18:36

CoralOP · 11/09/2025 17:09

I'm very saddened by this. I loved to watch him respectfully and intellectually debate trans issues. I don't agree one bit on his abortion views but that made no different to my respect for him, we all have different opinions on everything.

It would be v hard for me to respect someone who thought even 10yo rape victims should be barred from abortion. Imo that's a much more major difference in view than disagreeing on how to deal w migration, taxes etc

Or saying the Leviticus stoning to death law for gay sex was 'God's perfect law for sexual matters'.

That said, he clearly had a lot of talent and potential, brave enough to stand up for his beliefs. He was only 31, and in some ways I feel he was quite immature. Any chance he had to develop and contribute more of his evident gifts positively has been snuffed out.

RIP Charie
A great man
A man who spoke truths
A great father
A loving husband
A loving & loved son.
May his voice continue to be heard

Exactly. It's so US centric to act as if we have no gun access just bc we don't have their dangerous laws

Nah, I'm treating it as just another minor news story. You're the one hyping it up and very obviously attempting to dehumanise those you see as your opponents.

No - it’s not - there are no main stream politicians on the Democrat side - particularly no presidents calling for violence in the way that Trump does.

Im not just talking about members of his government.

WhamBamThankU · 11/09/2025 18:41

I saw a TikTok earlier where a very intelligent young man said that if you’re against gun crime you shouldn’t be celebrating his death.

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 11/09/2025 18:41

Bollocks is it naive.

Trump won in 2016 without any support from
Rogan and CK was barely old enough to drink.

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris fumbled their anointing handover of the Democrat baton fucking up 2024 irreparably.

But if you want to hand all the credit for Trump’s second win (and the overturning of Roe v Wade) to a couple of podcasters you must (secretly) have as little belief in the validity of the current democratic offer as those who voted for Trump do.

No you give some examples. I saw claims today that he was calling for gay people to be murdered. This was made up but was being taken as gospel on bluesky. Questioning wahibist Islam does not mean hatred of Muslims. The guy seemed to be going around colleges debating students. What's wrong with that? It seems laudable. You don't have to agree with him.

What he did say was horrible though:
He said that the stoning to death for gay male sex in Leviticus was 'God's perfect law for sexual matters.'

V nice.

People twisting it are awful, ofc. Always check quotes you see on SM.

Same.

I think I'm very worried about how the existential-threat rhetoric combined with the casual "haha Luigi our hero" emboldens really crazy people.

Someone in the UK could have the same thing happen with a knife. The gun control angle interests me less than imagining how this could happen here. I go to a lot of events with GC feminists, free speech advocates, etc from a range of different views. Including ones which have had protests outside them. I can extremely easily see how that could escalate, I can visualise the rooms.

That really is shocking. I didn’t think my opinion of the American culture war could get much lower.

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2025 18:08

And again.

You said the only reason anyone here was sympathetic was because of his trans views.

I've been banging on about the dangers of political polarisation and violence for about a decade but still...

I think you have me confused with another poster. I haven’t said anything of the sort.

As I said. The inhumanity is that people felt the need to come and downplay a young man’s brutal and shocking murder to get their digs in, when they were perfectly able to scroll on by or just say that murder is bad whoever it is. And it certainly isn’t just you, you’re just an example, and not the worst on MN certainly. Anyway, not getting into any further argument about it, but people like you aren’t helping things, and you clearly don’t feel any personal sense of responsibility for adding to the febrile atmosphere.

If this debate was anything to go by, he was respectful, kind and incredibly measured in his responses. Despite dealing with what is clearly absolute lunacy.
Absolutely nothing hateful about the way he spoke.

https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1ZRWkLGNtG/

I don't think it's respectful, kind or measured to compare being actively gay to being an alcoholic or drug addict

Or to call women on the Pill automatically 'crazy and bitter.'

Or to say that women over 30 are understandably unattractive to men (even tho he married a 32yo!)

Or to say that the stoning to death penalty fir gay sex in Leviticus is an example of 'God's perfect law for sexual matters.'

Nothing about this is minor….

one of Trump’s besties gets shot, a charismatic successful right wing motivator. This could easily be the spark USA doesn’t need.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/09/2025 18:46

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 11/09/2025 18:44

Exactly that.

Yes, and also if you’re calling him out for not having empathy, don’t then demonstrate your own lack of empathy, or you just look hypocritical and tribalist. Be the better person.

I felt concern for AOC when I saw her responding to journalists asking her views on yesterday's events. She's frequently one of the people you see the Libtards of TikTok types railing at.
