I'm confused what gender critical people want. Could someone clarify?

They want any LGBT person or supporter who makes a threat of violence arrested? Correct? For an example there was Sarah Jane Barker who made a "if you see a TERF, punch 'em in the face!" comment. There was a Glasgow protest where someone held up a cardboard sign with a guillotine crudely drawn with a crayon and "decapacitate TERFs" or something scrawled. These happened years ago and to this day the GC community still talk about and refer to them and say they should have been arrested/charged/convicted.

For another example a trans person a while back jokingly posted something like "let's give KJK a NZ welcome" on twitter which then led to a lot of angry GC people from here making police reports and brigading them (someone posted a link on here and lots went over to be abusive directly to her).

And then Graham Linehan threatens to/incites others to punch trans people in their genitalia (not his first time btw, he has a long track record of threatening and inciting abuse and violence towards LGBT people and their supporters), and yet these same GC people flock to twitter to say that it's "free speech" and "people shouldn't be arrested for online communications".

So what is it to be? If you want LGBT people arrested and charged for threats then GL would need charged too.

If you want GL to have a "legal pass" to make threats then that means it should be the same for all including LGBT people and allies.

Whatever the law is it needs to apply to everyone equally. You can't have one rule for GCs and another rule for LGBT people and allies.

Its not a straw man, it's exploring where we draw the line.

Its asking whether the punch in the balls would be acceptable in certain circumstances.

If yes, all we disagree about is where to draw that line.

If you think not, then we fundamentally disagree about how women should assert their boundaries with pushy men.

Edited to add: asking those questions helps us to refine our opinions.

Edited

As I'm sure you're aware, it's entirely impossible to respond to such black and white questions - that's why we have whole court cases with judges (and juries) to decide these things.

This was not the situation Linehan was putting forward so is irrelevant to the discussion.

Yes it was.

Did you even read his tweet or are you just taking Chris's word for it?

SirBasil · 04/09/2025 15:13

thank you.

But my question is: if i recommend doing what i did: ask politely, ask firmly, shout for help, punch to the throat

are you going to say I'm inciting violence? Because that is comparable to Glinner's tweet

I totally agree with you, and I agree with Glinner's tweet too.

He wasn't inciting violence, he was making a joke and repeating what so many of our parents, teachers, self defence experts, and even the police have told us to do.

I'm catching up so hopefully @Negroany has answered your question by now.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 04/09/2025 16:53

Negroany · 04/09/2025 15:32

Mine of that was the situation GL put forward so it's a straw man argument.

Ah you did answer SirBasil's question.

You are wrong, what happened to SirBasil is exactly the situation GL described in his tweet.

What differences do you see? Please explain because it looks to me like you haven't read either the tweet, SirBasil's post, or that you haven't understood either, or that you have read both and understood but talking out of your... hat... regardless.

BananaPeels · 04/09/2025 16:55

@SingleSexSpacesInSchoolscompletely agree with what you put. Articulated it much better than I did.

CohensDiamondTeeth · 04/09/2025 16:57

Negroany · 04/09/2025 16:31

point out to me the Straw Man here as if i were 5...

You will find Google useful.

But the situation you explained was not the same. His was 'if you see', yours was 'I was held in a toilet against my will and fought my way out'.

I'm not punching any man I see in a loo. See. Any man I just SEE. And I would not suggest that to anyone.

Ah so it's bad faith and talking out of your "hat" then!

You have conveniently missed the rest of the tweet which was intentional. It wasn't just any man you see, it was a man in the female toilets who won't leave, and after shouting for help, and calling the police, a punch to the balls would be the last resort.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 04/09/2025 17:03

As someone gender critical, what I want is this, @Christinapple:

No male born individuals in women’s and girls’ single sex spaces, sports, hospital wards, toilets, changing rooms, rape crisis support groups.

An end to the toxic gender stereotyping that underlies the whole trans movement - it is regressive, outdated nonsense to say that a male individual who likes pink, wants to wear skirts or make up, doesn’t like sports MUST be a woman/girl, and a female person who loves sports, has short hair, hates make up, pink and sparkles MUST be a man.

It is much more progressive to say that you can have any likes or dislikes you want, without it nailing you into a box marked man/boy or woman/girl.

I want trans identified males to stop hijacking all the things women have fought so long and hard for - our sports, our single sex spaces, our awards and scholarships, our loos - all the things we and women before us fought so hard for, to allow us our safety and dignity.

If they don’t want to use the Men’s loos, they should fight for additional gender neutral loos, instead of invading the Ladies, and making many of us uncomfortable - we aren’t a human shield for men. They should do their own work instead of robbing us of all ours.

I want the police to take the same interest in tweets, posts, banners etc inciting violence against women who refuse to bow down to trans rights activism as they do in suffragette ribbons, and tweets by Graham Linehan. Rape threats, telling us we should die in grease fires or be decapitated - why is this all fine and dandy?

If men want to call themselves trans women and wear women’s clothes, they are free to do so - they can believe whatever the hell they want - but they do NOT get to compel my speech, my thoughts or my beliefs.

And finally I want them to stop ‘transing’ children and young people - no more puberty blockers, binders, surgeries for kids under 18. Tell young people they can like whatever they want, dress however they want and that everyone should be accepted for who they are - but that human beings cannot change sex.

They want any LGBT person or supporter who makes a threat of violence arrested?

Anyone that makes threats should be arrested.

But you would be better stating trans and trans allies.
Because many LGB people agree that the trans ideology is homophobic.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 04/09/2025 17:30

Where is @Christinapple?

Have they realised that making this particular argument:

Whatever the law is it needs to apply to everyone equally. You can't have one rule for GCs and another rule for LGBT people and allies.

was a major own goal and decided to slink away from this thread with their tail between their legs?

Turnups · 04/09/2025 17:31

CohensDiamondTeeth · 04/09/2025 14:30

Sorry, here I go nit picking again!

People with DSDs are still either one sex or the other. They are male or female, there is no third sex or absence of sex.

Other than that I totally agree with you!

Yes, you’re right, I shouldn’t have phrased it like that.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 04/09/2025 17:34

Negroany · 04/09/2025 16:33

As I'm sure you're aware, it's entirely impossible to respond to such black and white questions - that's why we have whole court cases with judges (and juries) to decide these things.

Its entirely possible to have thoughts on these things, ave to consider what we might agree with and what we might not.

Testing hypotheses like this is all part of critical thinking.

And discussion boards are ideal for discussing things (who'd have thought? ).

Judges and lawyers are humans too you know, they aren't a special race of beings, set apart from the rest of us plebs. (Edit to add: so are jurors).

Are you suggesting that we shouldn't think about difficult and complex issues?

CohensDiamondTeeth · 04/09/2025 17:44

Turnups · 04/09/2025 17:31

Yes, you’re right, I shouldn’t have phrased it like that.

Thank you for being gracious about it.

Edited to say sorry I thought you were the poster that said trans identifying children deserved better parenting - total reading fail on my part, sorry!

nutmeg7 · 04/09/2025 17:50

I think we shouldn’t waste our time with the faux-naive “can someone please explain what GCs want” when @Christinapple doesn’t actually want to know.

Just wants an excuse to wheel out the same rhubarb as usual.

Bit daft of Christinapple to shine a spotlight on the difference in the police response between “rape/kill a terf ” threats made to women for not believing the right things about sex-change magic, and “punch him in the balls if you find him in the women’s toilet where he has no right to be” threats made to men.

No, he never learns. He'll be back.

(He's definitely a he. I wasn't sure for a while either, but the other day he tried to disparage JKR by calling her Jo. Dude, dude, dude.)

It was also an own goal for him to tell us that some of the more egregious images of TRAs threatening women are several years old. We knew that, but it's good to know that he does too... so he knows how long it's been going on for, and that violent, perverted men were exploiting this pretty much from the very start, so one can imagine what all these years of validation and support and sycophantic simpering have made of them.

SionnachRuadh · 04/09/2025 18:34

He's slacking off then. On Trans Reddit the thing is to call her Joanne. This is apparently a hilarious name, according to middle aged blokes who call themselves Alexis and Vanessa.

So according to a pp, the OP is a trans woman.
So because it's a view this board doesn't like, you get deliberate "yes, Sir's" and posts referring to the OP as an irritating whine noise etc etc.... Kind of puts paid to the "we're just wanting a discussion" trotted out. Which is clearly a load of bullshit.

First, Chris doesn’t want a discussion going by how they never reply or respond to any / the more challenging questions. Second, we never asked for this ‘discussion’, which is not actually asking for a discussion but was entirely a gotcha posted in bad faith. Third, Dolores Umbridge is the perfect comparison of TRA admonishing everyone to bekind and inclusive in a sweet voice that can then oh so quickly switch to the tones of the authoritarian ‘You will not tell lies’ dictating compelled speech followed by punishment if somebody tries to say ‘no thank you’.

The drive by scolders just cannot resist the slightest possibility of sanctimoniously telling women off for being worried about losing their rights and the safeguarding of our children. Just once it’d be interesting if they actually ever engaged with the serious questions posed by many here.
