Because of course he did.

Note to MN and monitors. Nicoresti is described as a "trans woman", therefore biologically male, therefore "he" is factually correct.

Jean Hatchet has an article on this in the Critic

Sam Nicoresti is laughing at women | Jean Hatchet | The Critic Magazine https://share.google/h6HVKO7ZydjEe7KKi

From the reddit posted upthread, he apparently complained three years ago about his lack of success at the Fringe. I'm not going to comment on his act. I've not watched it. I'm not going to. I'd say, genuinely trans or not, he saw an opportunity and he took it. If his act is as dire as described here and he still won that's on the Fringe judges. They and the BBC should be ashamed. He'll get some mileage from the award, possibly pop up on QI and the like. There's still an audience for anti-women comedy but only if it's a tw is making, for want of a better word, the jokes. A bog standard man might be cancelled faster than you could say 'me too'. Although, aim the 'jokes' at GC women and he too might go down a storm at the student's uni. As far as a wider audience and an enduring career in comedy...well only time will tell. Perhaps this will connect him with people who can actually write jokes. People who are genuinely talented and could even have been cheated of winning this year. Who knows, they might have considered themselves allies. Maybe they thought Lia Thomas's competitors were sore losers. I wonder how they think about that now? Can they even see the parallel?

Thanks Jean, and I agree with most of it. But he’s got such awful delivery and totally lacks charm, I don’t even think better jokes will get him anywhere.

I remember Jo Brand when she started; her delivery was awful, but because she’s genuinely funny, she made us laugh anyway, and as she gained in confidence, her presentation got better, and her genuine warmth and charm showed. He’s neither especially funny (no funnier than your funny mate) is rather dull, too, with not exactly any cutting-edge observations, and has zero charisma. I’m annoyed at them giving him such an important award, but can’t see him having any real career.
