Because of course he did.

Note to MN and monitors. Nicoresti is described as a "trans woman", therefore biologically male, therefore "he" is factually correct.

You'd think that the thing to be featuring as a headline would be Ayoade Bamgboye being the first black woman to win the best newcomer award.

Chersfrozenface · 23/08/2025 17:48

It's a problem because I guarantee that there were comedians with more talent and better material at Edinburgh, but a trans person had to win to make a virtue-signalling point.

You will note that the only review quoted is from the Guardian, which takes an identical stance.

It’s kind of strange to tear someone down without even watching the show.

Chersfrozenface · 23/08/2025 17:54

More importantly, was he funnier than any other comedian at the festival?

Because that is what the winner should be.

Well, that's always going to be subjective.

Not having seen this show, I don't feel I can comment on how deserving or otherwise the win is.

FaithHopeCarnage · 23/08/2025 19:39

At least it wasn’t Willoughby (who is appearing at the festival allegedly), although he is pretty funny to be fair. Small mercies and all that.

Rubidium · 23/08/2025 20:49

Here’s a clip:

I have never seen a sofa in the ladies’ loos. It’s all very blokey, isn’t it?

334bu · 23/08/2025 20:50

Stood beside India on an escalator in Edinburgh and was quite shocked at how big India is. I always got the impression from the tv that they were quite small and not the strapping "person" they actually are.

RNApolymerase · 23/08/2025 17:45

I don't see the problem here, it wasn't a "women's" comedy award, just "the" comedy award.

It really depends on whether he won it because he was funny, or because of his perceived special status. It seems to have become common in the arts for inferior performers to be promoted and valued, not because of their talent, but to showcase the progressiveness of the judges.

TheodoraCrumpet · 23/08/2025 20:56

Jesus. Anyone actually seen her performance, or is it okay to just slag someone off for being trans? Don't answer that.

A pp has said upthread that they went to the recording of the showcase and gave their opinion of the comedians. Did you miss that in your rush from Reddit?

TheodoraCrumpet · 23/08/2025 21:18

Reddit? Oh, dearie me. No, I don't have time for that. I think your prejudices are showing. A showcase, as I understand the term, isn't an entire performance by any individual act.

Its very woe is me, victimhood, mis understood trans woman, almost funny conspiracy, silly GC people, older men/comedians are sexist, all done in a ranty way.

If that helps.

DrBlackbird · 23/08/2025 21:23

Funny how monitored these threads are and how ready some posters are to jump in and criticise if/when there’s the slightest chance of an opening to do so. Here because how could we possibly know whether he was funny or not. Call it intuition… but thanks to @Rubidium we can have a preview.

Does anybody find that clip funny? I thought it was rather misogynistic to talk about women who play rugby snapping his spine. Doesn’t want to use a toilet because men piss everywhere. Yup us too. A bit snidey about women sitting on sofas talking politics waiting for a toilet? All for sharing toilets together? Definitely unable to remotely understand why women have concerns.

Not funny. Did nothing for me but I’d love to hear from others on what they think. Not too mention how this man thinks being female is wearing a bit of lips and slightly long hair but retains all other male markers.

bonfireoftheverities · 23/08/2025 21:36

Comedians have one job. I was quite willing to give him a chance to make me laugh, but I barely got above a smile ("Big Crisp", for the record).

I find the following funny even though it was also lauded by Penis News, and it worries me that we agree on something:

- YouTube

Enjoy the videos and music that you love, upload original content and share it all with friends, family and the world on YouTube.

TheodoraCrumpet · 23/08/2025 21:43

I thought it was funny. It's observational comedy, not a serious treatise on gender politics.

Had to laugh. Is the latest claim from the reality deniers that Redditism is a thing?

Well they do say that comedy is subjective, so differing opinions are allowed.

JaninaDuszejko · 23/08/2025 21:53

Yeah, I don't have an issue with trans people getting open comedy awards but I didn't find that clip funny. Which is interesting because I regularly find short videos of random comedians on insta funny. And even comedians who have material I find distasteful like Jimmy Carr I can see why it works structurally (makes me dislike him even more because he's clearly very gifted and could be funny about stuff that isn't offensive). Whereas this guy is completely predictably and ranty and not funny.

Unless you’ve seen all the comedians how can you possible know that.

bonfireoftheverities · 23/08/2025 21:56

Now I'm busy looking for funny trans stuff, so thanks OP.
I sure as hell don't have to agree with the comedian to laugh. For example, this guy is using "she" for a TiM, which I disagree with, but I don't care as it would get in the way of the funny.

Pleasantsort · 23/08/2025 21:58

I'm sure he's the funniest, funniest and most wittiest EVER seen at the ED Fest EVER!
Aye right !

illinivich · 23/08/2025 22:00

Its obviously aquired taste type of comedy. The audience seemed ready to laugh at everything he said. Not exactly like they had a gun to their head. But very, very close.

Its ok, but award winning? Put trans in front of anything an watch the standard sink.

I have no idea about what's posted on Reddit, and no interest in it either. I can't tell whether Redditism is a genuine phenomenon or a witticism all of your own. But I don't imagine you will believe that, because, what was the word you quoted?
Believe it or not, there are people who disagree with you everywhere.

Did that make sense in your head?

YelloDaisy · 23/08/2025 22:11

That is crap ( that video) -he’s going to race Usain Bolt -maybe he doesn’t know the name of any female Olympic athlete

TheodoraCrumpet · 23/08/2025 22:15

Aw, do you want me to spell out the bit you quoted? Your prejudices are showing.
