Mumsnet Obsession With Penises

My controversial opinion is that most of the Mums who obsess here over penises, uteruses and chromosomes, would pick more important and interesting topics if their own child was trans.

Plenty of anti-trans activists put their activism over IRL relationships..hell one of the best known ATAs did so to such an extent that his partner (and family) left him. There's been endless reports about this from both ATAs and from those who no longer have contact.

I've long advocated for a space like /r/QAnonCasualties for the latter.

I wouldn’t know. I only know pro-women activists and they all seem to have fairly well functioning family and social lives. Although it’s certainly true that their friendships evolve over time and tend to shed the ‘pick-mes’ that they’d lumbered themselves with early on.

Edited to keep on topic. Many of us like to go out for pizza together.

FarriersGirl · 03/07/2025 15:53

When I first discovered this board about 12 months ago I read quite a few older threads and was extremely puzzled when a serious and often heated debate turned into a recipe swap. Personally I'm not sure about a lot of fruit in savoury food, my DSis does a recipe with salmon and rhubarb that is OK though.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/07/2025 16:16

Salmon and rhubarb isn’t a combination I’d have thought of, @FarriersGirl, but I can see how the sharpness of the rhubarb would cut through the fattiness of the salmon.

We usually do roast goose for Christmas dinner, and I sometimes do that with a sharp gooseberry sauce.

SidewaysOtter · 03/07/2025 16:51

Gooseberry also goes well with pork. Cuts through the fattiness and gives a nice tang.

FWR has its own version of Godwins Law: every discussion turns to recipes or a debate over the best sort of Tunnock's product* in the end!

And you can also buy/eat their gonads, to keep the thread vaguely on topic.

Whaat!! Roe is fish gonads?? That’s why my aunty was so cagey when she offered me fish roes and I asked what it was, having never heard of it before 🤣🤣. It was a bit weird - I wouldn’t choose it again

Just looked up that pizzeria and it sounds delicious. Pizza number 4 for me!

If I'm being particularly fancy, the pizza I like to make is a spelt base pizza dough (with gluten intolerance, it makes my stomach hurt less), my own pizza sauce, mozzarella, sauted leeks and asparagus tips, black olives, prosciutto cotto, frozen peas and a poached egg on top. It is glorious.

Edited

White sauce on pizza can be amazing. I think I've had it with spinach, gorganzolla and hazelnuts or something before. I know friends who swear by it with seafood, but I'm personally not a fan of seafood.

You can do pizza with pesto bases too which are really nice. I know someone with a tomato allergy so it's a helpful alternative.

I think I've had just about everything you can think of on pizza - anything from bolognese to hotdogs to christmas dinner to creme eggs.

We like pizza in our house...

Datun · 03/07/2025 17:03

creme eggs??

Fish roe is unfertilised eggs in a kind of lump/paste, isn't it? It's just urchins where "roe" means their gonads.

RedToothBrush · 03/07/2025 17:10

Datun · 03/07/2025 17:03

creme eggs??

Yes. They are amazing.

And mince pie filling. In fact mince pie filling is the best though goes atomically hot like McDonald's Apple Pies.

You make pizza dough (has to be homemade - not shop bought) put on your halved cream egg or mince pie filling or nutella. Fold the dough Calzone style. Shove it in a pizza oven for two mins. Dust with icing sugar if you like.

Magic. Desert pizzas.

I doubt it would work with an oven cooked pizza as it's all about cooking at a very high heat for a very short time.

I believe you can do it with ice cream as well but we've not actually tried that one.

Yes but do you prefer raisins in curry or not?

Heretic! Burn the witch! Everyone knows it’s caramel wafers.

Came for the comments and did not disappoint…

ArabellaScott · 03/07/2025 17:44

Despite this thread, I'm absolutely starving.

OK, that makes more sense.

Although now I feel like I absolutely haven't lived

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/07/2025 15:00

Ohhh I wish I could give you the recipe, @PottedPerennial - the best I can do is guess. The pizza came from Storico in Ipswich, and the description is fiordilatte (a fresh, light cows milk cheese similar to mozzarella), sliced apples (Granny Smith, I think), Gorgonzola, truffle oil and tapenade (the tapenade was in blobs, not all mixed in).

Makes mental note to check out Storico next time I'm in Tractor Boy Central.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 03/07/2025 18:03

I generally object to pizzas without tomato on, but my local pizzeria does one with crème fraîche, mozzarella, pancetta, goat's cheese, fig chutney and rosemary and it is to die for.

Ah. I had something out of a tin which was several pieces each about two or three inches long. Kind of flabby sort of neat as I remember. I probably don’t want to know any more 🤣

POWNewcastleEastWallsend · 03/07/2025 19:06

Talk of weird food combinations has reminded me that it will be time to go and get some fish and chips soon and that the accompanying condiment of choice around these ways, though not with me, is Piccalilli !

I think "anti trans-activists" would be marginally nearer the truth. It is the TRAs who make unreasonable demands who get the backs up of the rest of us, for example by demanding to be accepted in the other sex's spaces, or demanding that everyone changes their use of pronouns under the threat of ostracism. Imposing a neo-culture on everyone is not the way to win hearts and minds; debate may be, if entered into in good faith and with the understanding that another point of view may have its own validity.

On the pizza front, can I make the case for white pizza with anchovy and lemon? Make a bechamel, spread over the base (I recommend large fresh naans from an Asian supermarket or similar), add anchovies and very finely sliced lemon. Scatter with mozzarella and bake for approx 12 mins at 180.

Bloody LUSH.

Please could you avoid mentioning that stinking shop?

fedupusingOHslaptop · 03/07/2025 20:08

I could of course google this but what's the fun in that. Ive cooked soft roe and hard roe, one comes from the female and the other doesn't. But I can't remember which is which .
It all tastes great on toast.

Ohoh, you need to try a Giant Clam. Trust me. It looks practically very much on topic.

😁

Sorry. Don’t want to put anyone off their pizza. Or Tunnocks ( [sideeye at @TwoLoonsAndASprout as everyone knows the wafers are too chewy compared to the pillowy deliciousness of teacake] )
