Brilliant! Love the eye roll!

Did she, though?

I couldn't tell if she did actually correct 'pregnant people' to pregnant women or if she was just reading out a list: the aged, 'pregnant people', women and those with medical conditions.

She may of course have been making the point in a deliberately deniable way, in case her bosses tried to pull her up on it.

Then again, the way she said "women" might have suggested that she was amending the script for common sense purposes.

Who knows?

I doubt it. Heat isn't really significantly more of an issue for non pregnant women than it is men

No, it wasn't that. Even if all women had to be more careful than men (which is false), how would 'women' be acceptable if 'pregnant women' wasn't? Unless the presenter meant all people with womany self-identification.

PachacutisBadAuntie · 22/06/2025 08:53

That looked very deliberate. Nitter link for comments:

Who knows?

Yes she did deliberately correct it. Here is the original quote by Dr Mistry as referenced in the clip. He refers to pregnant people, she changes it to pregnant women

Dr Malcolm Mistry, at LSHTM, said: “Exposure to temperatures in the high 20s or low 30s may not seem dangerous, but they can be fatal, particularly for people aged over 65, infants, pregnant people, and those with pre-existing health conditions.”

She definitely did. The eye roll was definitely there. Plus women aren’t generally affected by heat anymore than men.

Andthatrightsoon · 22/06/2025 09:02

Never to be seen again on our screens ...

ScribblingPixie · 22/06/2025 09:02

Not impressed by 'the aged' for people over 65 either. Whoever wrote that autocue script sounds like they're probably very young and irritating.

Waitwhat23 · 22/06/2025 09:04

I believe that it is the same reporter who interviewed Heather Herbert (he of the polycule and toilet floor dilation) after the SC judgement and while he wanged on about Trump, she gave the facts of the judgement clearly and straightforwardly, ignoring his repeated attempts to say that someone 'could just announce that you're a man tomorrow and you wouldn't like it' (paraphrased).

largeknitter · 22/06/2025 09:04

Haha - definitely a correction and an eye roll there. Good on her 👏🏻

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 22/06/2025 09:07

The quote was summarised slightly - as she said 'the aged' rather than 'people aged over 65'; but I agree that she very much did come across as deliberately correcting the silly phrasing.

I agree that (non-pregnant) women in general would seem a strange group to include in the at-risk groups; but the usual narrative assumption goes something like 'pregnant people - which includes transmen' and 'women - which includes transwomen', so I'm just always on my guard.

NotBadConsidering · 22/06/2025 09:07

The way she stalls slightly beforehand suggests to me she could see it coming and didn’t want to read it. Definitely a correction with an eye roll. Good for her!

Love the additional video of her a few posts down on that thread interviewing ‘Heather’

DiamondThrone · 22/06/2025 09:13

Yes, she gave it the eyeroll it deserved. Good for her!

She'll probably be in trouble with the thought police in the BBC though 🙄

Anyone got a link for that, pls?

IfYouPutASausageInItItsNotAViennetta · 22/06/2025 09:16

I do like Martine Croxall. She doesn't have the same 'assimilated glazed-over automaton' look that some of the newsreaders have.

She seems to actually think about the sense of what she's saying, rather than just letting it go from her eyes to her mouth and completely bypassing her brain.

Not to derail, but we've recently been re-watching a brilliant comedy series centring around computers that was written by a certain Irish comedy genius.

Some of the actors from 'that' episode that has since been shadow-banned - the main protagonist in the scene especially - have distanced themselves from it and claimed that they had nothing to do with the script or any views held by the writer.

They merrily went ahead in reading and learning the script and then acting it for the camera... but they didn't realise what they were doing or condone it, of course...

Excellent.
Let's hope she's not dragged off for re-education.
