Fascinating stuff. Long-time TRA and transman https://x.com/legaltweetz has made an almost overnight conversion to the gender critical side.

'I honestly feel like I’m leaving a cult. Where saying anything outside of the accepted narrative will get a bunch of anime pfps attacking your character.'

Legaltweetz is now under sustained attack from other TRAs.

If you're on Twitter, go take a look. This person was one of the most vocal TRAs on there until a month ago.

Wondering if it's no coincidence that it's a female person who's got disenchanted with the ideology and its supporters.

Yes I was a bit suspicious that it's 'research" or subterfuge to get close to gender critical people. It was so sudden. But this person has upset other TRAs to such an extent, I can't see how they'd recover from the damage. It could be pure attention seeking, of course ...

I've been following this on x and have wondered whether if it's for real or not - I keep expecting some kind of gotcha.

She's mentioned that there should be more gatekeeping for medical treatment and still believes that trans is real so this might be her trying to separate the "true trans" from the "pretend trans"

Yes, I happened on the message quoted in the OP and nearly got whiplash checking that the author was definitely who I thought. Very odd and I am wondering what exactly is going on there.

I would love to know the reason for the sudden change of heart.

I think they queried the huge jump in f-t-m transitioners and the number if detransitioners and got piled upon by tras, which then made them consider their own transition and why they did it - and the tras are calling this despicable behaviour.

The problem is that anyone with even the slightest doubt almost can't help but change their mind.

Because as soon as you lift the lid even slightly, transactivists will blow it off its hinges whilst vociferously hoping that the blast to take you out too.

this is someone who should be welcomed to mumsnet and our community. the more we can start conversations with people who have different beliefs, the better. and it shows clearly who the fanatics are.

They’re pilling on to her because she ‘misgendered’ someone who was accusing her of being in the same virtual spaces where people were talking about have committed revenge porn, and the intensity of the pile on has made her reconsider how the trans community operate I think.

I hope she’s ok. I hope she has RL friends and family who can keep her grounded.

It must be horrific having everyone turn on you like that. I almost wish that it was fake because I don't like anyone being piled on like that.

She was due to have ‘phase one of phalloplasty’ in January, but decided against it once Trump was elected, and the whole thing seems to have started there. She removed her pronouns from her bio and the TRA’s kicked off and have been pretty relentless ever since. This whole cult is insane, absolutely insane.

If she's backed out of having phallo, then she has saved herself from a lot of pain. But you aren't meant to say that in the world of affirmation, 'no regrets' and 'I want to stand to pee,' even if you are left incontinent, with fistulas, strictures, necrosis and an irrecoverably damaged donor site (usually an arm).

That was my thoughts too. Clearly some of the more prescient TRA's have realised that the more extreme behaviours shown by their community is horrifying a public who have finally begun to become aware of the situation so they are attempting to rebrand themselves as reasonable/true trans for the inevitable reckoning.

There are some smart people out there, and I've been wondering where they've been for the past decade.

It's been fascinating reading. There is speculation on another forum that it's someone else posting. There's even mention of a conservatorship. They just cannot accept that someone might actually have had a 'are we the baddies' moment.

Well, it's not an easy ride if she has genuinely started to pull back from genderist ideas. Looks very, very hard going from what I've heard from detransitioners.

As others have said, I hope she has the support she needs.
