Outspoken TRA 'Legaltweetz' suddenly turns against transactivitism

Fascinating stuff. Long-time TRA and transman https://x.com/legaltweetz has made an almost overnight conversion to the gender critical side.

'I honestly feel like I’m leaving a cult. Where saying anything outside of the accepted narrative will get a bunch of anime pfps attacking your character.'

Legaltweetz is now under sustained attack from other TRAs.

If you're on Twitter, go take a look. This person was one of the most vocal TRAs on there until a month ago.

Wondering if it's no coincidence that it's a female person who's got disenchanted with the ideology and its supporters.

I'm not familiar with this person but I've just read the post that she's detransitioning and, much to my surprise, it made me feel sad for her. I'm not entirely sure why but I think it's because I understand she'll have done things to her body that are irrevocable. I'd rather tp be happy with what they've done than live with the regret of what can't be undone. Still, life gives us all scars. I wish her the best for the future.

TENSsion · 11/06/2025 13:20

She’s obviously very intelligent and hard working but carrying around a lot of trauma.
I hope she heals and can move on from this.
If I were a friend, I’d recommend deleting twitter.

Beowulfa · 11/06/2025 13:46

Remember it's definitely not a mental health problem, or a cult.

Completely agree.

When the terfs are found out to be right, which they usually are, it means that someone's realised they've been duped, and now has to come to terms with all the harm done. Or it's revealed that yes, a rapist was terrorising women in a women's prison. Or yes, children were sterilised unnecessarily. Or yes, doctors were guilty of malpractise. Or yes, a man punched a woman in the face and won a gold medal. Or yes, women lost their jobs because they argued what the Supreme Court has just found to be the law.

Every time we're right, it's only because something bad that we warned about has been proven to be true.

It's crap all round. There are no winners.

This is subjective. It's always been LGBT until JK Rowling and the gender critical groups propped up to oppose it. Saying LGB feels as if something is missing IMO.

Hhahahahah

How is it even helpful for same-sex attracted people to be attached to people who don’t believe sex exists?

We only have LGBT because Black Lives Matter refused to let the T be part of their mission, and Stonewall was looking for a raison d’etre

bellinisurge · 11/06/2025 14:04

“Lovey, I was alive in the 80’s and 90’s. I KNOW this ain’t true” @BernardBlacksMolluscs
Me too. The only T around when I was younger were creepy men larping as women. Nothing to do with LGB

Datun · 11/06/2025 14:06

I can actually remember when it dawned on me that a T had been added.

I remember thinking what the bloody hell is that? What on earth is transgender?

Manderleyagain · 11/06/2025 14:10

I saw this. I don't follow the account but have seen her on twitter. I thought she was an intelligent but ptetty fundamentalist genderist. I was really surprised to see the posts about trans rights advocacy going wrong and I saw the backlash.

I see she's now detransitioning (so presumably wants she/her) and i hope it goes well. Even though I'm gender critical and frequent this forum which is one of the main homes of the gender critical movement, i think there's danger in leaping from one ideological community to an opposing one. The wider gc movement has political aims, and is based around a set of beliefs. Yes they are built on facts but there is a set of ideas which we share (roughly). Not everyone within it is pure of heart and people will be trying to get her to join because it will be helpful to the campaigning. But that might not be in her best interests personally. So I hope she steps back and spends time away from the internet.

CassOle · 11/06/2025 14:28

Come on everyone, the T has always existed and it's not Chris' fault if it was invisible because it hadn't actually been added yet. You just have to accept that it was always there. Chris works hard at the Ministry of Truth, and it's not fair to point out where things have been altered.

Remember, the first creature to climb out of the primordial soup was draped in a trans flag and used they/them pronouns, and that trans Neandertals are valid.

I remember that too! It was when I was at uni and the LGB soc suddenly became the LGBT soc and everyone was like ‘transgender? What’s that?’. I kept having to belatedly remember to add the ‘T’ on ‘cos #beKind and trendy

I am showing my age and remember being in a meeting in the mid 1990s having a pretty innocuous meeting at our switchboard about adopting the B to our L and G switchboard’s name. T wasn’t even on the radar then. Glad my dino existence has a point.

spannasaurus · 11/06/2025 14:50

I went to uni in 1988 and the student union had a Lesbian and Gay Society. No B and no T

bellinisurge · 11/06/2025 14:56

Just seen JKR has made contact with her

Stonewall only started including trans people in 2014. Goodness knows when the + got added

BackToLurk · 11/06/2025 15:22

The first series of Big Boys is set 2014-15 and the TQ+ seems very new then. To the extent that there are jokes that rely on characters not being sure what all the letters stand for.

It’s funny how only the T think that isn’t it? The LGB are quite happy on their own.

Ive heard everyone was trans until JKR signed up to twitter. Shes the one who forced everyone into a cis-heteronormative lifestyle.

Its not good that its all being played out on twitter. Not good for thepissedofflawyer if genuine and not good for everyone else if shes not or changes her mind.

I actually WAS trans until JKR showed me the way to heteronormativity, if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. The power that woman has is unbelievable.

BundleBoogie · 11/06/2025 16:15

Christinapple · 11/06/2025 11:58

Not sure they have "switched sides". I think they are just pointing out some forms of transactivism aren't helpful. For example they still have "LGBT rights" in their profile text.

Well obviously by their reaction the TRAs have absolutely decided that she’s switched sides and she is now a target for their abuse.

Whether she regards herself as having ‘switched sides’ remains to be seen. I prefer to think that she’s ‘seen the light’ and if she’s shelved plans for surgery, it’s not a moment too soon.

lcakethereforeIam · 11/06/2025 16:20

Nothing wrong with supporting rights for T. They deserve the same rights as everyone else including evidence based and necessary medical treatments. What they need, not what they think they want.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 11/06/2025 16:27

She was so angry and militant before. I wonder if that was the doubts she was having expressing themselves, almost trying to conceive herself more than anyone else.

I wish her well. Can't be easy.

Cross sex hormones and mutilation aren’t healthcare. They are abuse

lcakethereforeIam · 11/06/2025 16:33

Yup.

Arran2024 · 11/06/2025 17:18

I took my daughter to Brighton for the weekend about 10 years ago and it was the Pride parade on the Sat, which we saw pass by I remember that the men were dressed mainly either as Freddie Mercury or Dorothy from the Wiard of Oz, in a jokey kind of way. There was nothing T+ that I can remember.

ArtificialFlower · 11/06/2025 17:23

I’m so ancient I remember when it was the London Gay Switchboard. Following discussion sometime in (I think) the 90s it became the London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard, and in the early 00s there were lots of debates about whether the B should be included or not. T was on absolutely nobody’s radar. If someone phoned up asking about transsexualism (as it was then called), we thumbed through old directories and referred them to the Beaumont Society as we had no expertise in that area.

The Q+ came not long after because I remember talking to a gay male colleague and rattling off the new LGBTQ+ acronym. It would have been 2015ish. He stared at me like I’d gone mad, especially when I explained what the Q stood for.

I’m really quite grateful to that colleague because his reaction was what made me start to question “being kind”. Who was I being kind to bandying around the Q word? Certainly not him or other LG people of his generation.
