Fascinating stuff. Long-time TRA and transman https://x.com/legaltweetz has made an almost overnight conversion to the gender critical side.

'I honestly feel like I’m leaving a cult. Where saying anything outside of the accepted narrative will get a bunch of anime pfps attacking your character.'

Legaltweetz is now under sustained attack from other TRAs.

If you're on Twitter, go take a look. This person was one of the most vocal TRAs on there until a month ago.

Wondering if it's no coincidence that it's a female person who's got disenchanted with the ideology and its supporters.

Yeah I’ve been reading her tweets for a while and had a feeling this was coming. Very telling isn’t it, how they’ve all turned on her without a second thought.

I think tras infiltrating the GC movement are on a hiding to nothing. If they expect to find skeletons tumbling out of cupboards I think they'll be sorely disappointed. I hope she's genuine, if she is I wish her healing. If she isn't I still wish her well.

The worst that can happen is women being doxxed. Which can be risky for some, for various reasons.

I don’t know how sudden it was (mind you, I also don’t know how genuine it is).

She announced a couple of weeks ago that she had been doing some thinking.

And immediately got savaged by TRAs.

So that might have clarified her ideas a bit.

The responses have been entirely characteristic.

It was Gay Pride & Lesbian Strength into the 80s, & LGB after that.

The trans wanted nothing to do with us.

Then the T was (controversially) added, in the early 2000s - NUS did it I think first.

Originally people claimed the Q meant “questioning” - I remember a lot of social media posts about it.

I’m not going to support the “+” until I know exactly what that means.

Sinead Watson has said that she was surprised how kind and welcoming terfs were. She believed such women would punish her, but in fact, because they saw her as female and always had so she realised she could trust terfs.

When Sinead was trans she was viscious online, her and Magdalen Berns used to ding dong on Twitter.

I assume the detransitioners have a little network and they’ll give Hendricks some support.

One of the things I've admired about Rowling is her clarity and consistency on this particular aspect when addressing the issue of trans rights. A TIM insisting on using women's spaces knowing that some women object is advertising that he is engaging in sexual harassment, and is himself a physical threat to women. And he is doing so by falsely asserting he's a women and has standing in the debate of whether women have a right to object to it. That is a level of moral offensiveness that a TIF never rises to no matter how vociferously they engage in trans rights issues. TIFs do have standing in the debate, however wrong they may be, and by granting them standing, you dispel the illusion gender. Rowling has always been willing to cut TIFs more slack than TIMs, that doesn't absolve them of past actions, and Rowling is certainly aware that the change of heart could be short lived or manipulative, but that's how you maintain the moral high-ground and engage in a reasonable broader dialog.

It is surprising but I think we have to hold a space open for all the people who have lost faith in their trans identity for them to be able to walk things back. After all I feel there will be be many more to come over the next few years, mostly women and girls.

I think people who hold GC views are very open and honest about them, we aren’t arranging piss protests or moob marches to try and remove other people’s rights. The restoration of sex based rights has been campaigned and won with women’s peaceful protests and through the proper legal channels. There really is nothing to infiltrate.

I disagree... lots of us have all sorts of vulnerabilities. I am self-employed and not worried about losing work... but my address can be found online, my regulator is insane, and I am (genuinely) worried what my happen to my pet(s) were I to be targetted.

I actually engaged in some anti-TQ+ work a couple of months back, and, coincidentally our cat went missing at around the same time... I was genuinely worried one of the most extremist amongst their number had followed me home and targetted him.

I hate the way "terrorist" is used so widely now, when a big part of me thinks it should be reserved for IRA / Islamist bombers. On the other hand, TRAs are, to all intents and purposes, terrorists, given they seek to use fear to gain political power

I've never heard of this woman and rarely go on Twitter but I went and had a look and to be fair she does seem to have quite a lot of support in amongst the more unhinged comments. It gives me a little hope that maybe one day my daughter will decide to do the same. But how would it be for someone who has been taking testosterone and had top surgery. I'm too scared to look into it to be honest. Not that there are any signs it's going to happen but there does seem to be a few people detransitioning in the public eye lately.

I do wonder a bit if she's genuine though, looking back over her posts she doesn't sound too well.Is this some sort of silly game? Time will tell

I know. She might find me in my sitting room talking to a couple of feminists who do terfy things like run a women's refuge and challenge misogynistic family court judgements.

ETA: I've just seen @JamieCannister's post and yes of course, that's scary shit and you have a point in your circumstances. And it's unacceptable, hence women's (and some men's) fightback against the TRA 'paraterrorists' or whatever we ought to call them.

There are doctors and psychologists working on building services for detransitioners. The SEEN group, can sg and SEGM are all lobbying and researching and so If your daughter, or anyone including Hendricks, says they are detrans publicly there is a network available. It’s underground, exactly like the terf networks.

What I mean is if your daughter detrans there is help, and hopefully soon it will be mainstream help.

to find the network all they need to do is post here or socials - it’s not perfect but it’s getting bigger.

As more high profile people detransition (such as those with large social media followings) hopefully it will sow a seed with other women who have transitioned to escape female trauma or issues with their female bodies.

Also, thoughts and prayers to Aiden Comerford. He interacts with this person on social media, so he is probably in full meltdown mode now that she is detransitioning.
