Cisgender lesbian forcibly removed from toilets by male security after being wrongly accused of being a man

This isn't the first time this has happened is it? I expect IMHO there will be more cases like this happening given the current obsession with trans people and how masculine or feminine people look.

https://www.msn.com/en-nz/news/other/same-sex-couple-demands-answers-after-hotel-security-threw-one-out-of-bathroom-thinking-she-was-a-man/ar-AA1Eh00e

"A woman and her girlfriend were thrown out of a luxurious five-star hotel after a security guard allegedly accused her of being a man using a female bathroom.
Ansley Baker and her partner, Liz Victor, were at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts, attending a Kentucky Derby party on Saturday.

The couple was using the women’s restroom in the foyer when they heard a bang on the stall doors, they told CBS News Boston.
Baker said she was in one of the stalls as Victor waited around the corner near the sinks. The hotel says that security was alerted by several women that the couple was sharing a single stall. Baker and Victor deny being in the same stall.
The male security guard allegedly began urging Baker, who was born a woman and identifies as a woman, to get out of the bathroom and accused her of being a man
“All of a sudden there was banging on the door,” Baker told the local news station. “I pulled my shorts up. I hadn't even tied them. One of the security guards was there telling me to get out of the bathroom, that I was a man in the women's bathroom. I said, ‘I'm a woman.’”"

It is impossible to tell if a person is a man or a woman by looking at them - obviously.
Masculine/androgynous cis women are now in a position where they will have to ‘prove’ that they are cis women. What will they have to so to prove this and who/m will judge them?
This entire circus show is detracting everyone from the very real issues cis/trans women and trans men face.

Its impossible sometimes to tell the difference. Some are more obvious.

Agree with the gist of your post though. The two transwomen I know you wouldn't know they were not natural women. Absolutely no way are they going to be forced to use anything but the women's toilets.

BethinVenice · 07/05/2025 17:55

So the sound of two people having sex in a loo in an upmarket hotel alerted other women to a problem. One of the people in the loo sounds and looks rather like a man to anyone not paying much attention. A guest calls security under the impression there's a man in the loo and a possible sexual assault underway. The security guard on duty bangs on the door and escorts them out and doesn't instantly clock that these are lesbians behaving very badly. And now this one incident is proof that there's no point in trying to keep men out of women's single-sex spaces? No, not buying that one.

The responses to this thread are really weak! The most anyone can say is ‘well it’s YOUR fault this happening!’

This highlights what is obviously wrong with the SC clarification and EHRC ‘guidance’: it’s impossible to enforce.

I am a femme woman but my wife who is a butch woman sometimes gets people questioning her gender or accidentally called ‘sir’ or ‘mister’, and I know it’s only a matter of time before she’s questioned when just trying to use the bathroom. I find that sad and scary.

It’s a massive issue and other than passing blame I haven’t seen it be addressed properly on here yet. If falls into the pile of things people on here would rather ignore, like male cleaners in toilets or the fact trans men dare to exist.

Is it a massive issue? Can't she just say, no I'm a woman? It's usually very obvious at that point from speaking voice, and every other cue.

And if that is unacceptable, what do you suggest is the answer?

Because I don't see that it is letting men into the women's toilets.

What did butch lesbians in the 70s do? How on earth did they manage?

Annoyedone · 07/05/2025 17:56

@ChessorBuckaroo so how do you know they’re transwomen? If no one can tell… how do you know? And the fact you know kind of makes it clear that people can tell.

Shadowsunray · 07/05/2025 17:56

No such thing as cisgender. There are men and women and all lesbians are women. This problem was caused by men in disguise illegally invading women's private spaces. That is where the fault lies.

dylexicdementor11 · 07/05/2025 17:56

Helleofabore · 07/05/2025 17:46

Did we need to before? No. So your post is just dishonestly catastrophising.

I mean, how on earth did we survive without having to ID people before some male people decided to non consensually use the female toilets?

Edited

I was responding to a post that said we will need IDs.
The suggestion is ridiculous, my point exactly. 🤭

If men weren’t using women’s spaces, then no one would be suspicious.

But now there will still be transmen in women's toilets?

CarrieLite · 07/05/2025 17:57

"Cis" Pink News, WTF OP?

Can’t recall this being an issue for the gazillion years when women’s toilets where always meant to be for women - why would it be a big issue now?

Last year a dad accused one of our staff members of being a man. She's an Asian woman with PCOS.

What are we supposed to say? It is the fault of those who have campaigned for men to be allowed in women's spaces that this happens more now, not us on here.

I spent years getting mistaken for a bloke at work. Do you know how much it bothered me?

Not at all. As soon as I corrected someone we would continue with our day.

And for the umpteenth time men cleaning toilets use a sign that says 'man cleaning toilets' on it, And I've had a male cleaner quite happily leave until the space is empty before now. Plus the majority have no issue with transmen as they are women.

If those transmen have taken drugs and had surgery that changes their appearance so much they cause women in single sex spaces to be alarmed then again what's that got to do with the women on here? Those transmen may feel happier if they use multi sex toilets.

I bet you £100 most people can tell as soon as they see your friends walk accross a room. The walk always gives it away no matter how much you've tried to hide your sex.

So wait…

apple is trying to persuade other posters of the tsunami of masculine women being kicked out of the ladies by reposting the one article multiple times

you must know thats not gonna work….i mean i don’t usually read your posts as they all sound the same, i thought that was a me thing

turns out its a you thing

MyOliveHelper · 07/05/2025 18:00

I'm.also sure this happened in Stratford Westfield around Covid times. Again to a woman with short hair.

Hopefully it didn’t impact your adult son

Annoyedone · 07/05/2025 18:05

Did the bat signal go out on Reddit or something? 😂😂😂😂😂

CassOle · 07/05/2025 18:05

Everyone knows what sex they are, even if they wish they were the opposite sex and have modified their bodies. Most people are decent and decent people will follow the law.

I am hoping that after the tantrums have died out, things will settle down. Any obvious arseholes that don't use the single-sex facilities for thie sex or unisex options will stand out more and more and the pressure on them to stop behaving like arseholes will grow.

dylexicdementor11 · 07/05/2025 18:08

If It weren’t for the fact that they would be put in a dangerous position - I would love for every trans man in the UK to start using ‘women’s WCs’ and other women only spaces.
Trans men do not look like women and they will not be accepted by women in women only spaces.

@WhatNextCatsAsDoctors

"This highlights what is obviously wrong with the SC clarification and EHRC ‘guidance’: it’s impossible to enforce."

It's really not. 99,99% of people are easily sexed on sight.

"my wife who is a butch woman sometimes gets people questioning her gender or accidentally called ‘sir’ or ‘mister’, and I know it’s only a matter of time before she’s questioned when just trying to use the bathroom."

At which point she'll speak up and people will realise that she's a woman and everything will be fine.

"It’s a massive issue and other than passing blame I haven’t seen it be addressed properly on here yet."

How would you suggest it's addressed?

"the fact trans men dare to exist."

I'm a trans man. What about us?

Don't have an adult son. Pretty sure it was a white lesbian who used the female toilets in Westfield and someone called security.

I am quite sure that tall women with short hair and narrow hips are able to advocate for themselves when this arises. There are numerous women on here saying it happens to them at times, and they say "no I'm a woman", everyone's a bit embarassed, and then they get on with their day.

It's annoying but it's not life-threatening, or literal violence, or even "sad and scarey".

What's the alternative to expecting short-haired women to explain? As soon as they speak it's obvious. I don't understand what the very upset and scared butch lesbians want to happen? What's the outcome you'd like? Make it normal for men and women to be in all toilets? That seems like a ludicrous step to take to put women in harm's way in order to avoid a tricky conversation.

We're not in control of all the people in the world. We didn't invite men into the ladies toilets (well, some women did, but all the sex realist women seem to be being held accountable for this mess). It worked fine 20 years ago. When people could speak to one another and had a sense of humour.

This all sounds like hysterical American shit.

I think for some women, it will impact their self esteem if people assume that they are male. I know that being called masculine or male is very hurtful to me personally.

Never mind. Sometimes people who are dressed in a way which is more typical of the opposite sex, or who are actually trying to present as belonging to the opposite sex, will be questioned about whether they are in the right bathroom. How is that 'scary'?
