“JK Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories, and I wish her no ill will, but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way.” So reckons kind and gracious David Tennant. Anyone else reading between the lines here and coming up with something like ‘women just need to stick to writing lovely stories for men to build their careers on, whilst also remembering about the cooking, cleaning and washing instead of drinking cocktails and smoking cigars, and they should just let men do whatever they want, and get out of their way and if they do this then they are most welcome to continue to exist as ideas in men’s heads and in common parlance as non-men, uterus havers, menstruating people and ideally, gestating people’ ?

“Just get out of people’s way.”

In other words, ‘just let men do what they want’.

Exactly.

“Be quiet. Sit down. Do as you’re told.”

'Just get out of people's way'

Stop trying to block men getting into women's spaces and facilities.

This was my first thought too - it’s a really sinister way to phrase things when the law has just been clarified to confirm that women must be protected from men.

lnks · 27/04/2025 01:20

Given the fact that we’re trying to protect women and girls from predatory men, telling us to “Just get out of people’s way.”, is a rather odd choice of words.

There was a great post on X quoting that picture of Tennant in the T shirt saying “you’ll have to go through me” with “we did”

Emma Hilton - that was brilliant 👏

Well he is being a more gracious than he was towards Kemi Badenoch.

I wonder if it's anything to do with the fact that both JKR and Mr. Cheap Nasty Lager are both relatively unmelanated?

GraduationDay · 27/04/2025 03:35

Yes, the ‘get out of the way’ reminds me of my little experiments where I walk down the footpath on my side and when men or groups of men come towards me I stay the course and so many of them take until the last second to realise that I am not going to move out of the way for them and they get visibly irritated by having to move onto their side of the path. They also often do it when kids are being collected from the school bus and women are trying to grab their young children. So often I’ve seen men refusing to walk around a metre or less to allow mothers and children some space and act very put out by women taking up the footpath. They just plow straight through and it’s women who are apologising and pulling kids out of their way. I think this is really the sort of level that Tennant operates at with these statements.

I wish I had so few real life things to deal with that I could sit around and pick on the few poor souls in the world whose gender and sex don't line up well.

You know, get all stupidly, self-righteously outraged; trot out know-nothing, self-congratulatory opinions; play the victim for no good reason, act like I should have a say in how other people handle their gender dysphoria, and otherwise be a giant, vicious doofus and bore.

You learn lines and get on the telly and suddenly you're Martin Luther King.

More akin to Martin Luther, than Martin Luther King. A vile, genocidal liar, who told the surrendered Catholic army that, if they laid down their arms, they could go home and live in peace, according to their consciences.

Then had 100,000 of them massacred.

Well, that’s what happens when TRAs insist on getting every woman with a brain who understands biology fired from their jobs and exiled outside the city gates. You end up with an army of very intelligent women with plenty of time on their hands finding each other to joke about silly things men say and taking court cases to the Supreme Court and winning them, just for something to do other than crochet while watching the soaps. I suppose that’s what we might call, unintended consequences.

How very well put. Nobody, female or male, likes to be lectured and condescended to. And if someone is bullied and sees others suffering in the same way, they're likely to band together for support.

That's definitely going to involve an exchange of ideas and in the worst of situations, people will resort to dark humour, among other things. What's so surprising about the natural human reaction of sarcasm and mockery, aimed at ideological idiots, with no common sense?

Well, I guess some people are just better at multitasking.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 27/04/2025 06:08

I agree only women are women but I agree with Tennant that within the law we should just let people be. I would defend a trans person from abuse, at the same time as agreeing with the Supreme Court ruling. I don’t like some of the nasty and divisive stuff I have read, here and elsewhere. We’ve won. Let’s implement it and move on. Let’s leave people alone to live their lives and have empathy for everyone.

Igneococcus · 27/04/2025 06:22

Just get out of people’s way.

Is that the new "Be kind and shut up"?

cramptramp · 27/04/2025 06:22

I think so. Be Kind. Get out of the way. Show empathy. Stand aside for men.
Same old, same old.

I don't know whether you're in the UK, Bertha, but actually UK taxpayers do have a very strong interest in how the NHS handles gender dysphoria because if it all goes wrong we as taxpayers are going to be paying for the unfortunate patients' medical care and welfare benefits for a very long time. Surely what most of us want is to be confident that healthcare practitioners are providing care informed by good quality, peer-reviewed research on what works, and also getting informed consent from their patients. A lot of what has passed for healthcare in this area would not pass either of those tests.

As for know-nothing opinions, you might like to look at the record of how recent court hearings have gone where a person who is in some way critical of gender ideology has taken legal action. In the vast majority of cases they've won. This rather suggests that the know-nothing opinions have come from the people who confidently advised organisations up and down the land to change their employment and other policies to reflect what they thought the Equality Act should say rather than what it actually did say, i.e. they advised that people could self-identify their gender and that the list of protected characteristics could just include 'gender' instead of 'sex' and (separately) 'gender reassignment'. Well, those days have gone now.

Yes you've described him perfectly, lucky DT with all his time sitting about with his self-righteously outraged; trot out know-nothing, self-congratulatory opinions he really is a a giant, vicious doofus and bore.
You've absolutely nailed him Bertha!! Brava!!

Giving his opinion on JKR makes his silence on the Neil Gaiman revelations louder than ever.
Another men's rights activist doing what they do best.

@LadyBracknellsHandbagg well, I guess we need his opinion on the same way we need yours.

I’m responding directly to a thread on Mumsnet, not giving an interview in a national newspaper scolding people I don’t agree with.

I’m sure there’s a hand maidens forum you could find somewhere where you could suck up to a few more bullying misogynists.

Is that you Tennant? Yet you have time to come on here and scold women who want to discuss things that are material to our lives, and who understand biological reality.

As I said to another hand maiden earlier, I’m sure there’s are places you can go and suck up to the pathetic misogynists who try to silence women by using their public profiles.

Probably in the hope of securing a role in the next Russell T Davies gig.

Perhaps as the cool supportive dad of a trans child. Maybe even with a role for Tennant Jr. The pimping out your kids nepo baby vibe is alive and well over at Chez Tennant.

I have lost so much respect for him due to his blatant pimping out of all his kids into showbiz. If his kids were good enough to make it without his name then they would, without him promotingvthem at any opportunity. And them all changing their name to Tennant, which is his stage name, not his surname, makes it so obvious they are blatantly creating some kind of nepo baby brand.

Maybe his bank balance is suffering

I believe he was excited to be involved in a company that planned to roll out lessons on the back of Adolescence. Company fully inclusive. Probs having to re write all that

These few ‘poor souls’ whose ideology has trampled over the rights of girls and women can get right out of my way.
