“JK Rowling is a wonderful author who’s created brilliant stories, and I wish her no ill will, but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way.” So reckons kind and gracious David Tennant. Anyone else reading between the lines here and coming up with something like ‘women just need to stick to writing lovely stories for men to build their careers on, whilst also remembering about the cooking, cleaning and washing instead of drinking cocktails and smoking cigars, and they should just let men do whatever they want, and get out of their way and if they do this then they are most welcome to continue to exist as ideas in men’s heads and in common parlance as non-men, uterus havers, menstruating people and ideally, gestating people’ ?

Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I didn't love him in Doctor Who - I feel he gives a much better performance when he's understated. He's very good at doing a creepy villain.

But I wish actors would leave off with their idea that society looks to them as some kind of moral arbiters. No David, we want you to be charismatic on screen. You detract from that every time you remind us what an absolute muppet you are.

Agreed. After the sublime Eccleston, his Doctor seemed shallow and lacked emotional gravitas. It's interesting that he's much more convincing in darker roles. Jessica Jones, as a mind-controlling psychopath, is one of his standout turns.

Bluegreencat · 26/04/2025 22:46

Why did he feel the need to tell the world about his child? That’s awful! The poor kid.

Hillsaremyhappyplace · 26/04/2025 22:48

Wow, “get out of people’s way” - says it all really. After he wished KB didn’t exist. He is such a little creepy misogynist

Datun · 26/04/2025 22:51

Just get out of people’s way

He can't even see it

He’s a fucking good actor. He was so good as Crowley and in so many other roles.

Can’t we just enjoy your acting skills, mate? We don’t need yet another man to tell women why our feminism is “wrong”.

Probably in the hope of securing a role in the next Russell T Davies gig.

Perhaps as the cool supportive dad of a trans child. Maybe even with a role for Tennant Jr. The pimping out your kids nepo baby vibe is alive and well over at Chez Tennant.

What a pathetic, mewling, little man he is. Why do these mediocre men think women care what they think? They really can’t stand the fact that JKR is more successful, richer, more intelligent and much more respected than they are, because she actually believes in what she’s saying, and is doing it for the good of women and girls and not to further her own career. STFU Tennant.

The male ego and arrogance that he doesn’t apply this to himself.

DancingOctopus · 26/04/2025 23:01

My comment was deleted and I don't understand why. It wasn't offensive in any way. I was just saying that I had read a lot of similar comments from men on social media.

"Just get out of people's way" is not gracious. At all. It's a perfect expression of a man expecting women to do what he tells them. No. We will not get out of the way.

Agree. It sounds aggressive. What a nasty little man he is.

BiologicalRobot · 26/04/2025 23:02

but I hope that we can all as a society, just let people be. Just get out of people’s way.
Man tells others to stfu, pipe down, go away. Doesn't ask or suggest but commands. You can tell he is male just from the words he uses. Here are mine, can you tell which sex I am from them? Fuck off David.

PaintDecisions · 26/04/2025 23:03

Get out of people's way?

Sounds suspiciously like "be quiet woman and make me a sandwich".

PoppysAunt · 26/04/2025 23:06

You learn lines and get on the telly and suddenly you're Martin Luther King.

Ok fair enough, I've not heard other specific comments he’s made. what I said doesn't apply to DT then, but I still think there's a lot of people in that category

Edited

Now THIS is gracious 🙌 😍

It takes guts to say you've changed your stance. You can have a head nod of appreciation from me.

He is a good actor; maybe he should stick with using other peoples words rather than making statements of his own.

peanutbuttertoasty · 26/04/2025 23:13

... or else?

Misogynist through and through.

Hope this guy gets no more work.

user1471453601 · 27/04/2025 00:17

@LadyBracknellsHandbagg well, I guess we need his opinion on the same way we need yours.

Screamingabdabz · 27/04/2025 00:27

“Just get out of people’s way.”

In other words, ‘just let men do what they want’.

Enough4me · 27/04/2025 00:31

He was my favourite Dr Who & I couldn't stand Harry Potter when it came out.
More recently, I was disappointed he was in favour of ideology over reality, but happy to see JKR seems quite grounded in reality.
(I like JKR Cormorant Strike work too).

BridasShieldWall · 27/04/2025 00:43

I wish the journalist interviewing DT (and every other actor / singer / famous person etc) would ask them what they mean. So who should get out of whose way and make them spell it out. After his comments about a world where Kemi Badenoch doesn’t exist and whinging little fuckers who won’t exist soon I’m pretty sure I know what he means. If he is that sure he is on the right side of history he should state what ‘getting out of the way’ means but he won’t.

RhannionKPSS · 27/04/2025 00:46

He is a pathetic, patronizing bawbag now , it’s a pity , he used to be a decent bloke when he was younger, a friend of mine worked with him in one of his first roles, and she says he was lovely & very talented.

PersephoneSeethes · 27/04/2025 00:50

Gosh, I do wish DT would just do his lines properly, not be the bossy set ‘organiser’ and go home to Georgia and family promptly. Off you pop.

Ph3 · 27/04/2025 00:51

No

BottleBlondeMachiavelli · 27/04/2025 00:52

I will never forget his “absolute freaks” t shirt. Horrible, controlling, arrogant man like so many of them. Ecclestone was a much better Doctor anyway.
