Girl guides are not safe. Parents beware!

From James Esses:

A whistleblower from
@Girlguiding
has been in touch. Volunteers have been instructed that, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement, boys who identify as girls can use female camp rooms and toilets. Worse still, parents must not be told.

This is a safeguarding nightmare.

What are the 'relevant external places'?

Motheranddaughter · 03/09/2025 20:17

A leader following the guidance is in breach of the law
I expect there will be resignations over this

Coming back to this thread as all leaders received the following tonight:

Our policies and procedures remain unchanged
Now we've returned to guiding after the summer break, and in light of April's Supreme Court ruling, we want to remind members that our policies and procedures have not changed. Further guidance should be issued from relevant external places in the coming months and we’ll share more information on what it means for us as soon as we can.

No idea what the legal risk is to leaders in the meantime who are stuck between hq policies and the law.

That's disappointing that they missed the guidance from the EHRC saying that organisations need to follow the law now rather than waiting for the statutory guidance.

Unless they're holding out for Stonewall guidance saying something different to the law?

Odd message.

Helpful of them to be so clear that child safeguarding is not a priority for them and they’d prefer to maintain their unlawful policies. My kids wouldn’t be going anywhere near the Girl Guides.

Maybe send that message to the EHRC? It's a very clear statement that GG is operating illegally and given that their target group are children, also in breach of fundamental safeguarding responsibilities.

Odd to see a group of adults so clearly stating their determination to prioritise an adult ideology & fetish over their responsibility to safeguard girls. But as we repeatedly see, transactivism has the power to beclown so many foolish, unthinking adults.

It's bloody depressing. But this 'group of adults', they haven't really been bamboozled, they have they? They must know perfectly well that what they are doing isn't right, and also that parents certainly won't like it. But still they refuse to act.

GoldenGate · 03/09/2025 21:28

It seems barely 10 years since GG were resolutely girls only and resisting any pressure to follow the Scouts in becoming mixed sex. A very sad change of affairs. They still have pronouns guff n their "safe space" training.

Waitwhat23 · 03/09/2025 21:34

And this is why they have massive waiting lists due to a lack of adult leaders.

Those of us who were intending to go back to Guiding when their kids reached Rainbow/Brownie/Guide age now won't touch it with a bargepole.

countrysidedeficit · 03/09/2025 21:40

I don't know about now but they used to have a lot of very young staff at HQ. Even though the trustees are making decisions, I think the pressure and culture from employees plays a part. As does the fact that they have a youth membership up to age 26 and put a lot of power in their hands.

Teenagers and young adults have very black and white thinking. Hence the zeal and lack of perspective and critical thinking. Or even basic logic from a movement that's fought so hard to free girls from the constraints imposed on them by society because of their sex.

Body modification to "escape" the constraints of sex stereotypes is the opposite of what guiding stood for.

elozabet · 03/09/2025 21:41

I run a group. I’m shocked that they’ve put this message out today. Seriously questioning my role in guiding.

it hasn’t affected my group directly (yet) and I love volunteering but seriously they are insane to be doubling down in this issue.

I'm wondering how many leaders have read that message and felt let down or shocked at the poor judgement on display. And how many have read it and been pleased because they genuinely felt it was the right thing to do.

It’s a good question and honestly I don’t what the wider view is amongst my local leaders. Only known it to have come up once and most were supportive (be kind attitude) but this was pre-covid. I would hope that they are better informed now but it hasn’t come up in meetings since.

Beamur · 03/09/2025 22:27

I read that and think - they're getting pushback from within and are sending a warning shot.
Not that it will do much good.
The current policies are doomed. It's a matter of time. I think the people holding fast to this ideology in GG are losing their grip.

Grammarnut · 03/09/2025 23:02

seXX · 25/04/2025 16:00

From an email from them back in 2021, they state (my bold):

"Our exemption under article 16 of the Equality Act 2010 allows us to be a single-sex charity. But under the Equality Act 2010, we are also allowed to be trans-inclusive. Our trans-inclusive E&D policy is grounded in the Equality Act 2010, and we're proud to be an inclusive organisation.
Under the data protection law, the status of a young trans member is confidential and must not be shared by volunteers without their consent, this includes informing parents of other girls in the unit."

I believe they are just refusing to change anything following the ruling. They are so sure they are right. It's disappointing.

I think they will find they are wrong. If they are a single sex organisation they cannot be trans inclusive of TiMs, though they can include TiFs.

I keep hoping that my own DC will eventually ’grow out’ of their zealotry about trans being the most marginalised group ever but actually I’m not sure this will happen. The same message keeps being repeated ad nauseum by adults in healthcare and education so it’s not surprising to have it internalised by young people. Depressing.

HelenaTranscart · 03/09/2025 23:38

Thanks for the update. Their attitude is appalling and puts girls at risk. They'll get sued.

Presumably they wrote this?

Gendered Intelligence were outed in Hannah Barnes book "Time to Think" (and elsewhere) as having had an extreme inappropriate influence at GIDs . They're one of the organisations who make great efforts to influence all organisations that work with children, imposing their age inappropriate, safeguarding breaching ideas on children and the organisations that work with them.
