Girl guides are not safe. Parents beware!

From James Esses:

A whistleblower from
@Girlguiding
has been in touch. Volunteers have been instructed that, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement, boys who identify as girls can use female camp rooms and toilets. Worse still, parents must not be told.

This is a safeguarding nightmare.

Who is going to enforce what the SC have said? Seems to me that a lot of organisations will ignore it. Surely it cant be up to individuals to take them to court one by one.

I think that might be what ends up happening. Although after a few high profile cases there would be a domino effect as orgs rush to avoid being sued.

Honestly, I'd much rather my daughters embraced a trans child into the GG unit than me fired up about this ridiculous non-issue. I'll continue supporting my girls on their guiding journey.

There are a whole generation of trans people who are now terrified, why are we allowing this horrific level of discrimination and hate speech.

And when your 14 year old has been more than 'embracing' a transgirl a camp and comes home pregnant will you still be thrilled by the inclusivity? Identifying as a girl doesn't make the penis or the sperm disappear.

According to the ideology, it's entirely likely that that poster's daughters are boys, the ones doing the impregnating

The EHRC have also said they will be following up reported organisations flouting the law. But yes. It'll be a case of taking them to court until it becomes obvious it isn't worth discriminating against women.

This is exactly what will happen. Money talks

Tents don't have cubicles unfortunately

Could they not have privacy screens in the tents?
There's no need for anyone to get naked in front of others, it's easily avoided I'd hope?

Davros · 25/04/2025 19:24

I’ll be digging

How do screens stop randy teens doing what randy teens do?

GuidingSpirit · 25/04/2025 19:30

There's another thread already going about this. I'm a guiding leader. There have been no comms about the supreme court judgment and the policy linked above obviously predates the judgment and has previously been widely discussed on MN. Girlguiding volunteers haven't been told that girlguiding is going to ignore the law. Also girlguiding has an outgoing CEO and a new one is in the process of being recruited so I imagine they will want to take their time in responding to the judgement and updating the policy. These things generally don't happen overnight in the charity sector.

I suggest if you are a parent of a girl in girlguiding you email HQ (not your unit leader) and directly ask how they are going to implement the judgement, rather than relying on rumours on X.

I went camping when I was in the Guides with the proper tents (heavy canvas and poles). If these are the same tents still being used, I am very amused about the idea of there being space in the tent. Crammed together is an understatement.

(Anyone else remember being told to storm proof your tent in the pissing rain or being timed against other tents to see who could get their tent down quickest?)

Do you have any actual evidence of this as you have just linked to somebody’s Twitter post?

I thought that was their policy anyway, there have been lots of threads on here about it over the years.

Well what difference does it make what gender they identify as then? If they're all horny for eachother then I doubt you could stop 'activity'.

Obviously their gender makes no difference, which is why it’s fine that GG is open to gender nonconforming girls.
but obviously their sex matters.

TeenToTwenties · 25/04/2025 19:36

Basic safeguarding has always separated by sex for accommodation on school trips etc.
GG and others have thrown safeguarding away in the name of 'inclusion'.

The 'gender' of the girls on a camp doesn't matter but the 'sex' does - people are told Guiding is single sex i.e. all female but some of the 'girls' are in fact boys. I can think of something that can happen when teen boys are in the mix that cannot happen when only girls are present.

Edit to add I'm not suggesting all guides are horny for each other at all times but that it is a safeguarding concern that should be factored in when dealing with sleeping arrangements for a mixed sex group of teens.

Can tell you aren't a camper. No there is no way that in the tents they could erect privacy screens. There's barely enough room for the girls. Roll on next year and she's a ranger and will just be sharing with her best friend in a 2 man tent.

GuidingSpirit · 25/04/2025 19:41

speakingofart · 25/04/2025 17:18

I’m a volunteer with GGUK and haven’t been told this ( and would be questioning it if I was!) Do you know where that’s come from?

Also a leader and I've seen nothing about this yet. And knowing the rate at which HQ moves, I doubt they'll have even had any legal advice yet. The pre supreme court judgement won't have filtered through to the policy yet.

BobbyBiscuits · 25/04/2025 19:42

You're not wrong there. I've camped before but only in small tent with mate or bf or with a single sex school trip. I guess if your daughter is in with just her bestie then it's more private and safer in some ways?

MassiveWordSalad · 25/04/2025 20:28

If they do decide to persist with their policy as it stands they should change the name of the organisation, since ‘girl’ means biologically female. At least then it would be clear what parents are signing up to.

Studies have shown that sexual assaults and harassment are a lot more common in mixed-sex facilities than single-sex ones.

You may be happy about your daughter sharing a tent or changing room with a boy, but the point is that many parents and girls aren’t. No one has the right to give other people’s rights away.

Gundogday · 25/04/2025 22:28

BobbyBiscuits · 25/04/2025 19:05

But why do people need to get naked or take their clothes off in front of others at guides?
Do they not have normal cubicles for changing for swimming, sport etc?
I'm not saying trans women should be allowed to look at girls when they're undressed but I just don't see why any adult of either sex should need to at a hobby group?

When camping.

It's not just about boys joining though. It's about adult males sharing showering and sleeping accommodation with girls without their parents being aware males are present.

GG say all their leaders are female. The safeguarding assumes they are all female. Yet they allow adult males to self identify as female to go places males would not be allowed. It's an absolute safeguarding nightmare.

Is that actually policy? A friends DDs unit has a male leader (the dad of one of the girls). Doesn't identity as female, don't know many details as to whether they were short on leaders, just something she brought up as she was surprised. I assumed that meant men were able to be leaders?
