From James Esses:

A whistleblower from
@Girlguiding
has been in touch. Volunteers have been instructed that, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement, boys who identify as girls can use female camp rooms and toilets. Worse still, parents must not be told.

This is a safeguarding nightmare.

For fuck sake. 🤬🤦‍♀️

babasaclover · 25/04/2025 15:44

Do you have any actual evidence of this as you have just linked to somebody’s Twitter post?

Beowulfa · 25/04/2025 15:47

If true, the Daily Mail will be on it.

My aunt was a devoted GG volunteer for many years and would be horrified at what it's become.

fashionqueen0123 · 25/04/2025 15:48

‘Must not be?’
says who?

Datun · 25/04/2025 15:48

This is the same policy that they had before. They're just not changing anything.

Totally believable

GCornotGCthatisthequestion · 25/04/2025 15:50

I would take things like this with a pinch of salt. There are a lot of people who like to create outrage.

Unfortunately a whole lot of things like this turn out to be true and in fact even worse than it appears on the surface.

The guidance coming out may change things, and the EHRC have already said they will be enforcing as agencies are reported to them. And parents will be able to just speed dial a lawyer.

That is official girl guide policy as it breeches the trans persons right to privacy.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 25/04/2025 15:55

I have as a parent messaged to request any changes to policy following the Supreme Court judgment,I'll report back once I get a response.

seXX · 25/04/2025 16:00

From an email from them back in 2021, they state (my bold):

"Our exemption under article 16 of the Equality Act 2010 allows us to be a single-sex charity. But under the Equality Act 2010, we are also allowed to be trans-inclusive. Our trans-inclusive E&D policy is grounded in the Equality Act 2010, and we're proud to be an inclusive organisation.
Under the data protection law, the status of a young trans member is confidential and must not be shared by volunteers without their consent, this includes informing parents of other girls in the unit."

I believe they are just refusing to change anything following the ruling. They are so sure they are right. It's disappointing.

Ah,well, at least that means I don't have to try and add another activity after school. (Utter bastards,I loved scouts and having a single sex adventure group was brilliant!!: yes,I know scouts now mixed sex; but at least openly!!)

LonginesPrime · 25/04/2025 16:09

Girl guides are not safe. Parents beware!

This has been the case for several years already though.

I get that you’re referring to their new decision to continue as they were, but your title implies a change of position, when there hasn’t been one.

Girl guides are no less safe today than they were before the SC ruling, as boys were already sleeping in girls’ tents with them without parents’ knowledge, as I understand it.

https://www.girlguiding.org.uk/information-for-volunteers/running-your-unit/including-all/lgbt-members/what-the-law-says/

Unfortunately, nothing has been updated yet on websites. Fair enough, the ruling was only made last week, but there’s not even any coveting blurb saying that ‘… in light if the recent rulings, these pages will be updated etc’ , ,

In fact not even on the main home page is there any reference to this significant law ruling, which on a site aimed at (young) women is despicable.

From a third generation guide, I’m quite disappointed. Methinks an email may get written soon.

What the law says

Introducing the laws that protect trans people and inform our guidance

How disappointing. I am horrified to see that GG have ignored the Supreme Court ruling and are continuing with their inclusive policies (which are a safeguarding nightmare). Let’s hope the parents involved push them hard on this and get some traction. As it currently stands there is no way I would ever entrust my daughter to the Girl Guides.

If they want to be a single sex charity under the EA and also trans inclusive then obviously they need to stop letting gender confused boys in, and stop kicking gender confused girls out. As I understand it, they’re happy to discriminate against the latter, someone please correct me if I’m wrong.

I doubt the parents involved will care, because anyone who’s still involved is obviously happy to ignore biological sex anyway.

Anyone who’d be bothered by this will have left the guides long ago.

There’s probably quite a lot who are still blissfully unaware.

Are you aware of any of the history around GG, or James Esses for that matter?

What about the privacy of the girls the trans person is sharing a bedroom and bathroom with?

You forget, they are support humans and their privacy is unimportant!

The only trans people who should be in a single sex organisation for girls are other females. I’m not exactly sure why they have different privacy requirements?

Oh yes, silly me!

How arrogant of the organisation to still be doing this after the recent judgment.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 25/04/2025 16:44

Maybe this should be one of the first 'post-SC judgment' situations addressed in court?

Not quite. I know the leaders at my local unit. I know all the guides are biological girls so don't have an issue with my dd attending, what she doesn't do though is go on camps or any other activities where I don't know who else may be attending.

This is something I'm open about with my daughter, she's a young teen and I do discuss trans issues with her. Explained about the Supreme Court judgement etc. Thankfully at her school there's no trans pupils in the lower school but she moves to upper in September so I'll be watching what happens then.
