Girl guides are not safe. Parents beware!

From James Esses:

A whistleblower from
@Girlguiding
has been in touch. Volunteers have been instructed that, irrespective of the Supreme Court judgement, boys who identify as girls can use female camp rooms and toilets. Worse still, parents must not be told.

This is a safeguarding nightmare.

Gender Identity.

Ah,well, at least that means I don't have to try and add another activity after school. (Utter bastards,I loved scouts and having a single sex adventure group was brilliant!!: yes,I know scouts now mixed sex; but at least openly!!)

Scouts is much better anyway!

Scouts are not immune to this either and I think are going to have to make some changes to their current guidance around toilets / tents / showers on camp. I did find this on their website though, which is easier to find than on girlguiding.

Can I just ask the people who say they don't see an issue, and the girls can just take to turn to change or whatever, if they would be saying the same thing if it were just regular teenage boys, without a gender identity, sharing with the girls? If not, why not?

God that's depressing. Mine have all finished their scouting adventures so don't have to deal with this.

That’s what it comes down to. Naked, trans-girls are 100% boys (and even non-naked).

I would take things like this with a pinch of salt. There are a lot of people who like to create outrage.

I have learnt to be deeply suspicious of people who say “Move on, nothing to see here” when someone expresses concern. Why are they trying to hide things?

HelenaTranscart · 08/05/2025 12:07

All made worse by Labour voting down the Tory amendment to the Data bill which would prevent self-id thru the back door. If this becomes law, these men will be able to show government ID to 'prove' they're women.

This is far from over.

Although GG are stalling even if they update policy to reflect the law they (and I guess we as volunteers) have a responsibility to sensitively manage out the young males who may be in units. These are young people who have been treated badly by their adults who have lied to them and promised them the impossible, will likely have metal health issues and be scared by the rhetoric being whipped up by trans rights organisations. They will need to leave in a supporter manner.
I'm less worried about adults as they are old enough to know the consequences of Thier actions.

This. There's a generation of children who've been failed by so many organisations and trusted adults who've bought into this ideology and allowed cynical adults to sell it to them.
They are hugely vulnerable and are currently being whipped up by irresponsible transactivists exploiting them as "human shields". These children will need sensitive and thoughtful support as they come to terms with the fact they've ben sold a lie - that opposite sex resources etc are theirs for the taking .

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/05/2025 13:52

I've had a response and I do feel like although no actual movement there's some acknowledgment that they are going to be dragged kicking and screaming to comply.

In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling, we are now awaiting further guidance. We are committed to operating lawfully and we will take time to consider carefully what this means for us.

They know but don't want to do anything until they can say our hands are tied is my best guess

That's a useful reminder of how this ideology has been promoted by bullying, threats and intimidation. The fact that GG promoted and defended this man in the face of all the photographic evidence about his unsuitability to be a role model for girls speaks to their catastrophic lack of safeguarding and concern for girls.

Interesting. To be fair, they may also be trying to limit the risk of their staff receiving death threats if they are perceived to be moving too swiftly to change policy.

If they wait for the statutory code of practice to be updated then there will be more chance of blending into the crowd of organisations making changes at the same time.

Not necessarily - all our local groups were girls only, no boys-who-think-they-are-girls, and only women volunteers. The leaders were as GC as they come.

Until it became an actual issue, with a transwoman applying to be a leader locally or a boy attending, we were all happy to carry on as normal. No point denying the girls such a lot of great experiences and friendships when it was only ever theoretical (locally) that males could join. We hold out hope the policy will have to change in line with the SC ruling.

Our duaghters aged out of the movement and no males had applied during that time, thankfully.

My experience too

couple years ago at guides we had a handful of girls asking us to call them by a male name, generally autistic girls, other than that, joining in with games etc all fine,
that seemed to fizzle out and now we have a few turn up with furry tails and ears …
haven’t come across a trans girl yet ..

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 09/05/2025 20:40

I also wonder if the summer break would be a good time so leaders can deal with any individuals away from the actual meetings. It isn't going to be easy either way

Amazing. You raise safeguarding concerns and the police are called - on you for a hate crime. And then even if you are found not-guilty, you might be on the non-crime hate incident list!

I urge everyone to read that.

A GG volunteer and mother of a guide wrote a polite email questioning the safeguarding aspect of a man claiming to be a woman, who posed with guns, posed as a dominatrix - and iirc uploaded pics of himself in the bath talking about his 'breasts'.

And the mother was questioned under caution by the police.

a police officer came to her house and told her she needed to attend the police station for an interview under caution, which “meant that I could attend voluntarily, but that if I chose not to attend I could be arrested.”

moto748e · 09/05/2025 22:56

I did read it, and hadn't heard it before, this was 3-4 years ago. Absolutely disgraceful. 😡

Sandylittleknees · 10/05/2025 05:53

I am an ex guide leader, we didn’t encounter this issue so never had to deal with it. HQ aren’t absolutely infuriating in many ways but particularly this. Although I’m extremely against allowing any sort of male to join guides I do actually think any young ‘trans’ boys (I’d males who want to be girls) who’ve been allowed to join should be allowed to finish their time in their section. I imagine there are actually very few. Any leaders should be asked to leave, they’ve already shown that they are happy to ignore boundaries.

Fortunately this man has now left Guiding. Not sure if he is still in Scouting
Definitely shouldn't be anywhere near any young or vulnerable people.

I instantly remembered that case, which shocked me for several reasons. Many things bothered me about that individual, posing with the (I think fake) gun being just one of them.

Absolute pretender and total idiot.

As for the poor women who had the police turn up... It was one of those cases of insane over-reach that made me angry and active.

Namerchangee · 10/05/2025 07:50

My DC won’t be joining up. A shame as I loved Brownies and Guides.

GuidingSpirit · 03/09/2025 20:01

Coming back to this thread as all leaders received the following tonight:

Our policies and procedures remain unchanged
Now we've returned to guiding after the summer break, and in light of April's Supreme Court ruling, we want to remind members that our policies and procedures have not changed. Further guidance should be issued from relevant external places in the coming months and we’ll share more information on what it means for us as soon as we can.

No idea what the legal risk is to leaders in the meantime who are stuck between hq policies and the law.
