Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is anyone else surprised that so-called feminists still think that TWAW?

Several friends who have been quite pro TWAW in the past are today posting all over social media that they are devastated by yesterday's ruling, that they are Trans Allies, that TERFs should be truly ashamed etc etc.

These are women who also describe themselves as feminists. I thought they'd be lying low today, or maybe even giving a measured response to the ruling, but it seems to have triggered them into an extreme of Trans allyship.

I'm having to hold myself back from.descending into a slanging match with them.

Is it possible to be a feminist and believe that TWAW or should you stop claiming that title if you won't accept the SC ruling?

This simply doesn’t happen. Stop your nonsense.

Why, trans women never get attacked or verbally abused? Are you for real? Try getting out of your bubble and actually speaking to some trans people.

Not at the moment because they're focused on rolling back the clock for Trans people. The rest of the LGBTQ+ community will be next. JK Rowling has already seemingly started ranting about asexual people now.

Dear Micaela64,

I care less about toilets than I do about prisons.

Do you think that trans women should be sent to a women's prison? If they have been convicted of rape or violence against women? If they still have physically intact male genitalia?

Should trans men go to a men's prison? What if the trans man still has intact female genitalia?

Once you've dealt with prisons, please can you answer the same questions re domestic violence refuges, rape crisis services, sports and changing rooms?

Thank you

I think I have fallen out hugely with 2 women I otherwise like, admire etc and would have described as feminist because they have been spouting the ‘be kind’ ‘most vulnerable’ shit all over our group chat without having actually read the judgment which yes, I have, because I am an employment lawyer. But apparently I am a hateful bigot.

Same. It's so depressing.

You said constantly, which is errant nonsense, however much you argue.

Ah, a nice new drop in from the Reddit school of incoherent reductive arguments. Welcome, @Micaela64, prepare to have your arse handed to you by a bunch of knowledgeable posters with the law, science and statistics at their fingertips.

Have at it, people!

In my opinion, no, it is not possible to believe that TWAW and still be a feminist. But that doesn't stop these people identifying as feminists. Much in the same way as...well, you get the picture.

I wonder whether they ever have a moment of self doubt.

Both women and trans women are so so so much more likely to be victims of horrific men (trans women proportionally higher)

I wonder how many of these "knowledgeable posters" have ever even spoken to a trans person in depth or got to know them to try and better understand their experience instead of just reading about them in the Daily Mail.

Give us some data on sexual violence and murder of trans people compared to women.

i have in my professional past never seen data to back up what you say here

StormyPotatoes · 17/04/2025 23:47

I’ve only had 3 people (all women) post TWAW posts - all expected. All three of them disregarded that this was actually about women, removed references to women and reframed it entirely about trans women (not even trans people on the whole).

But it was this one other repost from one of the women (a childhood friend) that bothered me the most (image attached).

“In a time of femicide… the government would be going after the people actually harming them”

If you want to do something about femicide, you need to be able to recognise it. Femicide only affects biological women - not men in any way, shape or form. But if we don’t have a clear definition of ‘women’ to mean biological women then femicide can’t even exist. It’s so obvious yet these fucking idiots post this crap (and note how really the framing at the end has fuck all the do with women really and refocuses back on ‘vulnerable’ group (the trans). This post quite literally uses women’s issues as a means to elevate trans people (exactly what they accuse this mysterious other group of doing).

It’s just so bloody stupid. All that’s happened is what the definition of women likely meant 15 years ago has been clarified (and of course it bloody meant biological sex 15 years ago. How could the legislators have meant anything else?) and these idiots have lost their collective minds fawning over these men.

Is anyone else surprised that so-called feminists still think that TWAW?

My favourite from the lunatic ravings of TRAs on Reddit today was this although it's so batshit I suppose it could be a parody😀Given the spelling I doubt they are in the UK anyway.

part of me struggles to even take the ruling seriously because they deliberately ignored factual science, in favor of feelings of fascist, radicalized women.

What’s the source for this outrageous claim?

They're right:

https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/press/ncvs-trans-press-release/

Transgender people over four times more likely than cisgender people to be victims of violent crime

"Transgender people are over four times more likely than cisgender people to experience violent victimization, including rape, sexual assault, and aggravated or simple assault, according to a new study by the Williams Institute at UCLA School of Law. In addition, households with a transgender person had higher rates of property victimization than cisgender households"

Results showed that both transgender women and men had higher rates of violent victimization than their cisgender counterparts, but there were no differences between transgender men and women.

It's #throwbackthursday on this thread I see.

All the crap, debunked arguments from circa 2018 making a pitiful, last chance saloon comeback like an aging boyband that was once popular but now has to play for an audience of 10 in a run down community centre.

I suppose you have to admire the commitment.

Yep, it's like A1 at Butlins in mid January.

I had to check I hadn't made A1 up.

I find it rather difficult since most times I'm around them a police presence is needed to keep us women safe from them.

Trans people are 0.5% so regardless of how you spin the statistics women are far more likely to be raped by cis men and if men are pretending to be trans women to get to women then that's a cis man problem, not a trans women problem.

So you ARE happy for more women to be raped so men’s feelings aren’t hurt. I knew it.

How many women are you happy to offer up as collateral damage here? 50? 100? 500?

How many more women is it that you find acceptable to be raped just so those poor men don’t have to feel any uncomfortable feelings?

Please tell us what your figure is.

You haven't achieved that though. You've just contributed to the world being a much worse, more misogynistic place for women and girls. Congratulations.

Really, funny then, that every woman I know, including myself has only ever had trouble from cis men rather than trans women, isn't it?
