Is anyone else surprised that so-called feminists still think that TWAW?

Several friends who have been quite pro TWAW in the past are today posting all over social media that they are devastated by yesterday's ruling, that they are Trans Allies, that TERFs should be truly ashamed etc etc.

These are women who also describe themselves as feminists. I thought they'd be lying low today, or maybe even giving a measured response to the ruling, but it seems to have triggered them into an extreme of Trans allyship.

I'm having to hold myself back from.descending into a slanging match with them.

Is it possible to be a feminist and believe that TWAW or should you stop claiming that title if you won't accept the SC ruling?

I think that there will always be a vocal minority. I suspect many others will be reassessing now thy know why at the law actually says.

My DD has posted one of those on Instagram. We're going to have to agree to disagree. She's a biologist as well 🙁

For many TWAW I expect it is part of the script. Lots of performative hand-wringing for a few days. Then a few weeks of 'tell us, what can we possibly do to help?' Then they will quietly drop their allyship and move on to the next thing.

I noticed in my US progressive Democrat FB group there were two posts roughly the same time: one about illegal detainments under the Trump admin and the second about the UK Supreme Court verdict on sex reality. Over 1000 interactions on the illegal detainments, civil debate when others disagreed, not all in complete agreement on how to respond, but nuanced discussions. Rather robust.

The UK saying unanimously that men cannot become women: 63 emojis, 12ish comments. Of course, the commentators are all TWAW and those evil right wingers, look how Trump influences the world, blah blah blah. I think it's VERY telling that this predominantly woman's group is deadass silent on this topic. I think because those who are GC know damn well they'll get silenced or booted (or already have).

In my opinion, no, it is not possible to believe that TWAW and still be a feminist. But that doesn't stop these people identifying as feminists. Much in the same way as...well, you get the picture.

I wonder whether they ever have a moment of self doubt.

These women are not feminists, however much they might identify as feminist. What they are is fawning dick-panders. I cringe for them.

People will be doubling down on performative allyship.

I've noticed that my Instagram feed is full of TWAW comments. I'm a bit disappointed really as many of those I follow reckon to be strong independent women.

I think that by and large they've missed the point. Yesterday was about women, not men. And yet again it's all about the men.

Some police department (Nottingham?)has said that transwomen will now be searched by men. When its the other way round that should have been the focus - women will no longer be searched by trans women.

My SIL who is in medicine, has posted that TWAW. I'm a bit despairing really. I'm seeing her over Easter and I'm not sure I can keep my thoughts to myself.

Never underestimate how blinded people can be by groupthink. I was going to say never underestimate how stupid people can be, but it's not that, they're just not starting to engage critical thinking, they're blinded by mantras.

I think the DEI folk will be the ones to watch. How are they going to spin this? Who are they going to take direction from? Will those who manage risk, including financial and reputational risk, start to take an interest in what their DEI departments are up to?

They're not feminists. They've co-opted 'brand feminism' to show they are Not Like Other Girls. But given that they have to check with men if they are allowed to have some of their opinions, that's not feminism.

They are like Edwardian ladies who don't want to upset their husbands with suffragette talk.

Or those posh dowagers who say 'well of course women have always been superior to men - we didn't need to demand equality!'

I decided that I had enough of silence is my complicit consent and got into it today on fb. And I almost PMSL when the person said well as a scientist sex is super complicated and cited that Scientific American piece as her evidence, so I cited a biologist’s debunking. Bet she didn’t read it but hope others did and begin to see the light. I educated myself and am fine with my decision that Transwomen are not biological women and deserve human rights as they are afforded under the EA.

They could have reported it as 'female officers no longer required to strip search any male suspect', but they didn't. Centering the poor men as usual.

I think I have fallen out hugely with 2 women I otherwise like, admire etc and would have described as feminist because they have been spouting the ‘be kind’ ‘most vulnerable’ shit all over our group chat without having actually read the judgment which yes, I have, because I am an employment lawyer. But apparently I am a hateful bigot.

More or less what I was going to say, just because you identify as a feminist doesn't make you one. I personally have taken to referring to these women as transfeminist because they are certainly not women rights activists.

Surely you didn't think this? Naive in the extreme if so. Think about the decisions (legal and otherwise) that have favoured trans people in recent years. On those days, did this forum "lie low"? Absolutely not; it strengthened the resolve of posters to fight against perceived injustice and people became more vocal and reacted with anger or sadness or determination.

Why would you assume the other side would or should be any different? They perceive this as an injustice and are becoming vocal and emotional as a result.

On the World at One today on r4 (first item) the presenter (Carolyn Quin? Not sure, missed the info) interviewed an elderly transwoman waiting to go into hospital, who was worried about where he would be put. Then interviewed a doctor 'it's complicated'. She actually said, more than once, about mixed sex wards now being a no-no, 'can't we just rename then 'mixed gender wards', so they could still be mixed. Unbelievable 🤷🏼‍♀️
