Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is anyone else surprised that so-called feminists still think that TWAW?

Several friends who have been quite pro TWAW in the past are today posting all over social media that they are devastated by yesterday's ruling, that they are Trans Allies, that TERFs should be truly ashamed etc etc.

These are women who also describe themselves as feminists. I thought they'd be lying low today, or maybe even giving a measured response to the ruling, but it seems to have triggered them into an extreme of Trans allyship.

I'm having to hold myself back from.descending into a slanging match with them.

Is it possible to be a feminist and believe that TWAW or should you stop claiming that title if you won't accept the SC ruling?

@LadyBracknellsHandbagg that's a good point.

I remember being very surprised years ago when a colleague told me he was a member of the Conservative party. I'm a social worker and couldn't get my head round the fact that a fellow social worker was right wing.

It's a bit like turkeys voting for Christmas

You lot are literally on the same side as the Conservatives and Trump supporters.

MissWishaw · 17/04/2025 22:47

I've had 2 colleagues be very vocal on the twaw debate and how terrible the ruling has been but so many more people ignore it which I actually think means they still don't want to out themselves as gc
A real feminist stands up for womens right before all else surely. So these women are not feminists

You must all be very proud to share the same viewpoint as Trump's supporters.

I’m so sorry but you’re a bit late, the ‘you’re all right wing, Trump supporting bigots’ threads were last week and we’ve dealt with them. Do you have anything original to offer?

We’re very proud to understand facts, especially of the biological variety, we know that people can’t change sex, so please feel free to debate with us about it.

They're not men, they're trans women. Why are you so hateful towards tiny minorities who are already vulnerable?

Edited

TW are men.

Onthemarket2024 · 17/04/2025 22:52

I've unfriended/blocked 1 friend from childhood, and an in law through marriage due to posts on their SM today/ yesterday. I just cannot agree with their TWAW stance.

You’re repeating yourself now.

TempestTost · 17/04/2025 22:54

I'm not surprised. SO not surprised I'm not really disappointed.

For a lot of women being a feminist is really just part of identifying as a good person, they think being on the left politically is about being a good person, and that feminism is part of being on the left. What can you expect from people who think those on the right actually intend to be evil? With that level of political sophistication you can't expect much.

Especially for the younger ones, they learned little about questioning all narrative in school. What they learned is that people who don't accept political progressivism are bigots and that is the worst possible thing, except for being Not Nice.

And for many of these people, their model now is identity politics, and TWAW is kind of the highest expression of identity politics. Their feminism is in the form of id politics too.

No point in wasting my time arguing with people so full of hate who spend their days bullying minorities. This is why people say you lot are like Trump supporters.

Micaela64 · 17/04/2025 22:34

That's exactly what the ruling will do. Everything will be mixed gender because nobody will want have to decide who is and isn't trans or risk being sued for letting in the wrong person. Well done everyone!

Well yes mixed gender, but single sex.

Why would someone's perception of their own relationship to gender stereotypes have any relevance to the wider world?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 17/04/2025 22:56

Glad it’s not just me. A number of ‘feminist’ friends have posted similar trans ally posters. And most infuriatingly, a number of them included comments about about how men are the threat and they feel safe with trans women. No mention of trans men. Lots of ‘I’ve never felt my rights threatened’… lucky them, but not a young athlete among them. I find it unfathomable that these strong intelligent women I know, can miss the point so spectacularly.

Also, the media reports I’ve caught today are all about the impact of the ruling on trans women, again, no mention of trans men, and certainly nothing about what it will mean for actual women.

‘They’re not men’??! What are you on?!

They’re male. By definition. Men.

People who are tight wing leave social work because they get treated like shit by other workers, and often in social work schools, not because they don't believe in helping people.

Because most people's lives haven't been affected by trans people at all. The media blow up a few isolated cases and gullible people think it's an epidemic when they've never had any problems with them in real life.

LonginesPrime · 17/04/2025 20:43

The thing that surprises me is that they’re essentially pushing for transmen to be denied maternity rights (which would have been the consequence of this judgment going the other way).

Such a weird thing to be ok with if you want to show support to the trans community.

Trans men are women, so they matter just as little as any other women.
It’s all about the men.

Have I got caught in a time slip and been whisked back to 2018?

These silly attempts to shame women into fawning over anyone with a nutsack don’t wash anymore. I’m not going to do myself, my daughter or other women down just to vie for being seen as a good girl by men and dick-panderers.

Y force teaming just proves trans demands cannot stand in their own merit. Denied.

What terrible encounters did you and your daughter have with trans people? Or were you just told to feel that way by the Daily Mail?

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 17/04/2025 23:03

Sweetie. A court just ruled that transwomen are men. That's not hate. That's the law AND reality. Cope

Lovelyview · 17/04/2025 23:05

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 17/04/2025 21:41

Gosh @Lovelyview that must be tough.

At the moment we avoid the topic. Since I've recently realised that I've been wrong/misguided/misinformed about many things in my life I can't really blame a young woman for not understanding something I feel strongly about. She has trans/non-binary friends so I understand she feels she's sticking up for them.

TheDevilWearPrimarni · 17/04/2025 23:06

Micaela64 · 17/04/2025 22:30

Because believe it or not, not all feminists get off on bullying a tiny minority of already marginalised and vulnerable people.

Sounds like your friends actually have something called empathy for people different to them.

There seem to be more than the average number of visitors to the site today, making points that were debunked somewhere around 2013.

The patronising won’t wash either. It’s the kind of debating tactic that teenagers use.

I don’t need to read the Mail, as I’m capable of interpreting basic stats.

99% of sex offenders are male. Women are 14 times more likely to be sexually assaulted in mixed sex changing facilities than they are in single sex ones. So you advocating for men to be In women’s spaces is you saying that you are happy for more women to be raped than would otherwise be. That men’s feelings are more important to you - and should be more important to society - than women’s safety.

Why do you think that women should be raped so men’s feelings aren’t hurt? Please explain.
