NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #10

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 February 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on Thursday 6 February.

I think both can be true. I think he has handled these questions very well, by his own standards. It's been very interesting to hear the completely insane Twitter/Reddit activist positions expressed so articulately. I imagine he'll be feeling very pleased with himself for having laid out his position without compromising anywhere on language or any points. I don't think that's going to work in his favour though.

I think JR's way of speaking reminds me very strongly of Candice-Marie in Mike Leigh's 'Nuts in May' (one for the seniors there)

If he's a true believer he needs to be removed from the GMC records and given psychiatric help as sex change does not exist.

Most of us would have paused half a beat then answered "about 15 sometimes 20"

There's no pleaded case against KS as they failed to disclose the email that we're now hearing was an act of discrimination against SP.

I expect the TRAs will hail DrU's performance as heroic. They believe as resolutely as he does in what we consider unscientific claptrap.
Hopefully some not-sure fence-sitters will be more convinced by NC than by DrU.

Or just that they should regale him with their trauma, so that when he has finished thinking about it, he can decide whether it is sufficient for him to move. (Of course not!)

The judicial standards dictate he is to hear the evidence and give no indication of what his decision may or may not be.
