The IBA is sticking with its rules and Khelif failed its 'gender eligibility tests'. The writer of the article shows remarkably little concern with saying what a 'gender eligibility test' involves and that it shows Khelif is male.

Imane Khelif

Without publishing the criteria or evidence.

Ask yourself why you are quite so enthusiastic to accept, indeed celebrate, an arbitrary decision made by the men of the IBA to opaque criteria without published evidence to support it.

Ask yourself why you haven't asked the most simple and straightforward question: Why has Khelif not published the results of the test? If Khelif is XX then it would put everything to rest. Everything. So why hasn't Khelif done it?

Well Khelif will get his chance to prove things it is all going to be sorted in court now with IBA suing the IOC in three different countries.

kiterunning · 11/02/2025 08:35

With cheek swaps / spot blood sex tests now being introduced by World Athletics , hopefully this will spread to other sports.
I'm sure IK will be rushing to the front of the queue to prove he's a woman...

miri1985 · 12/02/2025 18:24

Khelif has put out a statement, intends to keep competing, apparently is going to take legal action against IBA.

Will that be like all the other court cases which seem to have gone quiet?

Will that be like all the other court cases which seem to have gone quiet?

At least one wasn't a court case, as such, but a complaint about "acts of aggravated cyber harassment" filed with the hate crime unit in the Paris prosecutor's office in August last year. At the time it was said that an investigation was being launched.

Since then, silence.

I know the legal system in some countries can rival the mills of God for slowness, so perhaps the unit is still investigating. Will there be an update? Will there be a decision? Will the unit/prosecutor's office ever say anything?

eatfigs · 12/02/2025 19:09

I will fight in the public eye until the truth is undeniable.

Thank you, agreed, please do continue.

it turns out that the professional boxing organisations are likely to reject Khelif’s joining them as well.
It is not just the IBA, EUBC it is also now WBCouncil and WBA.

Two of the global sanctioning bodies, the World Boxing Association and World Boxing Council, have expressed profound concerns about either Khelif or Lin being permitted to turn professional.

Makes me wonder if we might see a conveniently timed career ending injury or health problem from IK soon. A face saving attempt to avoid any court cases and the accompanying disclosure.

I thought the plan was for Khelif to do a Barbra Banda and to go off to fight professionally in a US state where they won't ask any awkward questions about their star's actual sex.

fromorbit · 14/02/2025 08:46

Challenge accepted by the IBA. Khelif is never going to take real legal action it has been 2 years since it was proved scientifically he was a man he has never challenged it in court because that is true.

IBA absolutely welcomes Imane Khelif’s intention on legal actions that would allow to reveal the gender test results
February 12th, 2025 / IBA

International Boxing Association (IBA) welcomes the statement of Algerian boxer Imane Khelif on social media about considering legal steps against the organization, as a court would force our organization to reveal two gender tests based on which the boxer was banned from participating in any IBA women’s events.
‘We received great news that the IOC will face the consequences of their decisions, as Imane Khelif is going to proceed with legal actions against the IBA,’ IBA President Umar Kremlev said. ‘We are really glad, as we will be able to prove in court that Khelif, based on eligibility criteria, was not allowed to compete in female boxing events in order to guarantee safety and fair chance to women competitors. We will insist on the forensic medical examination, which will prove our position, and we will communicate the outcome accordingly. Thomas Bach will be personally accountable to the law for what he did.’

And we will watch what happens. I think the threat of legal action is just posturing and Khelif will not follow through. Because the damage to reputation will be complete.

Although, saying that Semenya still has kept Semenya’s reputation even when saying things like ‘my testicles don’t mean I am not a woman!’ All because the media still report Semenya as …. ‘A woman with naturally high testosterone’.

if a woman had the testosterone levels of Semenya, sadly she has the very high likelihood of early death as we have witnessed from the East German women. None of this survives more than superficial analysis. But here we are. these male people seem to be protected whatever they do.

This IBA statement popped up on my newsfeed today. I'm glad there is a thread on it already. I did a quick search and hadn't noticed this one had been started.... I'll readily admit that I've been too distracted by the courtroom drama in Dundee to see all the new threads!

Anyway, it's great news that the IBA won't be put off by this posturing from Khelif. In fact it's got echoes of the NHS Fife case where the bully gets their bluff called.... guess what Beth/Imane, lots of people really do believe that sex matters, and that no amount of saying "I'm a woman" can change actual biological reality. Whether that reality relates to a DSD (Khelif) or basic self-ID (Dr Upton) is irrelevant: the public's voice in saying no to males identifying into women's sports and spaces is getting louder and louder.

puffyisgood · 15/03/2025 18:30

so the IK furore was apparently the product of, "Russian fake news".

the IOC boss makes this claim without so much as once even hinting that the competitors in question were xx/were female in the traditional sense.

Helleofabore · 15/03/2025 18:49

Just a last hurrah from him before the voting for the new IOC president next week.

AlexaAdventuress · 15/03/2025 19:27

This is why I find it difficult to trust the Guardian - or many other mainstream media outlets - these days. All this stuff about the Imane Khelif situation being the result of Russian propaganda is presented without any critical context or counterpoint, despite there being a good deal of material about the attempts to assess his biomarkers already being in the public domain. If they lie to us about that, what else are they lying about?

Of course, you can take it with pinch of salt, in the same way as if you saw something on Fox News. But what makes it worse is that the Guardian is always trying to position itself on the moral and epistemological high ground, accompanying each article with a load of sanctimonious blurb about how it's battling against fake news and threats to democracy and isn't beholden to billionaires.

PriOn1 · 15/03/2025 20:12

Great. My Guardian reader parents will now assume I was misguided in asserting Khelif was male. Really wish they would stop with their propaganda. It’s ironic in the extreme that transactivists have taken up supporting men with DSDs as well as men without, even though this particular man with a DSD says transitioning is sinful and it was terrible people were suggesting it.

Trump has only banned Trans athletes. Women like Khelif are welcome to complete.

Provided they pass a cheek swab sex test.

I'm sure Khelif is rushing to do one right now and clear up any misunderstanding. Or they could take this to the International Court of Sports Arbitration with the tests they have already done. I look forward to seeing Khalif defend thir Olympic title in 2028.

Was it not just males in female sports? i.e. Non females in female sports. So irrespective of whether a lad’s bollocks are outside, undescended, de-fleshed, or even if their very development was impaired by some disorder or other.

Look at the little lambs and sheep in the field. Nothing magically turning a ram into a ewe, no matter how any ram presents, or even if his development was impaired. A developmentally impaired ram does not a ewe make.

I seem to remember that Seb Coe outlined that there are more sophisticated swab tests nowadays. Can’t remember what he said specifically. It used to be the presence of Barr bodies. Of course if something unusual is found, then that can be further investigated. For the vast, vast majority of people that is not necessary, of course. I know I’d think it more fair to have to investigate a few people further than to create unfairness for the vast, vast majority of women.

Only a knowing cheater, or those pushing to create loopholes for cheaters, would be happy to remove checks and thus allow unfairness in the women’s events.

MarieDeGournay · 15/03/2025 20:38

Will Olympic gold medalist Imane Khelif become a professional boxer?mething very sports-pagey and technical, but in fact it's pretty spot-on:

"It should of course be simple to differentiate males and females at birth but there is, in a tiny percentage of cases, margin for error if the reproductive organ doesn’t fit the known definition of a male and thus the baby might be presumed female – particularly, [Dr Nina] Radcliff infers more than once, if born without the help of educated medical professionals.
“Sex is biological, it is identified at birth, and it does not change; it is not about identity; it is solely based on chromosomes and visible characteristics,” she explains. ....
...Whatever one’s opinion on the feud between the IBA and the IOC, that testing remains the crux of their futures – should they wish to identify as fighters. "

Edited

Bach said the dispute over the boxers would have been a non-issue were it not for the IBA, given the two had competed for years, including at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, with no problems. “It has nothing to do with the reality,” Bach said. “These two female focuses were born as women, they were raised as women, they have been competing as women, they have been winning and losing as every other person.”

Eh?
