The IBA is sticking with its rules and Khelif failed its 'gender eligibility tests'. The writer of the article shows remarkably little concern with saying what a 'gender eligibility test' involves and that it shows Khelif is male.

Imane Khelif

Enough people now know all about DSDs for them to be held accountable, hopefully.

Plus, they all seem to recognise that the controversy and subsequent scandal was damaging. And not to be repeated.

And yes, I agree, it's a piece of piss. Bring back sex testing with a bloody swab. End of.

And for the love of God, admit that having an F on your passport is an absolute nonsense if any man can have one!

I wonder if they've decided that they do need to be careful, and they're just trying to find the right wording.

Nothing complex about a once in a lifetime cheek swab. Wonder why Imane hasn't just had one done and published the results? 🤔

SinnerBoy · 21/03/2025 10:18

He doesn't need to submit to the massive, humiliating indignity of a cheek swab, he's already had two independent blood tests, which confirmed him as a man.

yeah, i dunno, i'm fairly sure i remember permanently staining my school tie with iodine back in year 7 when we had to look at our cheek cells under a microscrope. Ms Coventry seems to be wearing [expensive looking] light coloured clothing in quite a few of the photos i've seen of her, maybe she's worried about something similar happening to her?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/04/2025 10:18

He technically is though.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 15/04/2025 10:20

He is a male with a male DSD who identifies as a woman. So he’s not really any different from other males who identify as women in that respect.

I wonder what the new IOC president will do about this. I suspect there will be plenty of virtue signalling and ‘consultations’ and then more of the same.

I wish I had more confidence that she will do the right thing for female Olympians.

Tough as it's going to be, I think they have to find a way to exclude him. They cannot deal with that level of scrutiny again, the damage from last time was bad enough.

Even if it's the cowards way out - a massive payoff and a well timed 'injury'.

I don't think Khelif is the person being hard done by here.

Khelif isn't a transwoman. Khelif is a male person with a DSD which caused initial misidentification of sex during childhood, which became obvious when Khelif went through male puberty. Khelif's gender identity may or may not have been muddled by this experience, it's none of our business. Khelif should not be eligible for any event that is for female people. I am happy for there to be more mixed sex events, so long as they are in parallel with female-only events in any sport where the changes of male puberty give males a significant advantage. I think it's brilliant for trans athletes of any sex or gender to be able to enter events without it feeling to them as if their gender is relevant. Competitive sports are not a tool for affirming someone's gender beliefs about themselves, sports are split (when necessary) by sex, not gender, for reasons of fair competition and safety.

duc748 · 15/04/2025 12:17

Well can we put it this way, Khelif isn't claiming to be a transwoman. He's simply claiming (wrongly) to be a woman.

Yes, whatever his reasons are, he's a man claiming to be a woman.

Men claim this for all sorts of different reasons. None of which make them a woman. And none of them are relevant to the women's category.

Exactly. He isn’t a woman.

He's done alright. But he's part of a wider cohort of boys who have been cynically scouted, and then denied the chance to make their own decisions about what medical treatment to have and how to present themselves, and subjected to potentially harmful androgen blockade.

duc748 · 15/04/2025 14:15

That's true, but how aware he is of his status and medical options. we cannot really know. It's fair to say most of his public pronouncements can be taken with a large pinch of salt; I don't believe he believes them for a second.

NecessaryScene · 15/04/2025 15:45

I don't see what women (or anyone) would gain from trying to rank the sincerity of Morgane Oger vs India Willoughby vs Imane Khelif vs Rachel McKinnon vs Jonathan Yaniv vs Harriet Haynes vs Beth Upton.

There's no "trans"/"not really trans" binary. 😂

ArabellaScott · 15/04/2025 16:24

As with all these things, no doubt it's a spectrum.

Maybe there's a Sincerity Scale?

ArabellaScott · 15/04/2025 16:25

Here we go.

I'm sure we could trust anyone who scored themselves highly on the Hexaco Sincerity Scale.

theilltemperedqueenofspacetime · 15/04/2025 16:45

I've no desire to look into people's hearts (ewww). But I do think people with DSDs are in a different category. Because sex may not be a spectrum, but they do in most cases have a mixture of binary sex characteristics and therefore have medical and social decisions to make.

I wouldn't shout 'he's a man' at Khelif. But it wouldn't be very snappy to shout 'she's a legally female but karyotypically and gonadally male individual who's been through male puberty and about whose gender identity I neither know nor care' would it? I usually just mention puberty, because that's what makes the difference.

Some people with 5-ard have a gonadectomy/œstrogen/vaginoplasty. I don't think it's medically ideal, but it's their life, and they're just making the best of what they've got, by their lights. I wouldn't describe it as transition.

puffyisgood · 15/04/2025 21:57

assuming that we're talking another Semenya type, Khelif has a heavy duty DSD that I don't really mind people referring to as 'intersex', arguably isn't 'a man' as such, either way it's not an easy condition to live with...

but in a world with only two sporting sex categories, the men's is objectively, unquestionably, a vastly better fit than the women's category, it's not even close.

BettyFilous · 15/04/2025 22:04

Some nations have been so successful at scouting and developing their DSD male athletes there are probably enough of them for their own Paralympic events so they can compete on a level playing field. It really isn’t fair letting them continuing to compete against women.
