The IBA is sticking with its rules and Khelif failed its 'gender eligibility tests'. The writer of the article shows remarkably little concern with saying what a 'gender eligibility test' involves and that it shows Khelif is male.

Imane Khelif

Good news.

ShredHead · 06/02/2025 22:57

Well that is good to hear, thank you.

ChappRo · 06/02/2025 22:59

Why are they using female pronouns still? And saying he failed a gender test? It's a biological sex test surely?

PurpleSparkledPixie · 06/02/2025 23:00

I aways wondered what would happen after the stupidly thick olympic panel were no longer going to be around to whimper..."but it says F in the passport!!"

BoeotianNightmare · 06/02/2025 23:02

Hopefully this is of some comfort to the women he stole medals from.

Davros · 06/02/2025 23:05

And punched

Sickening that this was allowed to happen.

He won't be competing in the next Olympics in America either according to Trump

Pudmyboy · 06/02/2025 23:36

It's great news, though the tone of the article seems to be against the IBA's stance, don't know if the boxing world is torn over this, hope not!

It's not up to the orange baboon.

That said, if boxing is even included in the next Olympics, it's highly unlikely to be on the same terms as 2024. Word is the IOC's stance at the time was due to a quid pro quo with Algerian Olympic powerbrokers willing to support a (now mooted) potential third term for Thomas Bach. For 2028, boxing is supposed to be handed over to its own regulatory body once universal recognition for one has been achieved.

He's said that no men signed up for female events will be given visas to enter the USA so yes its kinda up to him

Sadly, this is the same with Semenya and the rules media have to follow.

I doubt these male athletes will ever allow it any other way because it will demolish any reputation they have now and in the future.

Indeed his team did put that into the EO. Let’s hope that EO survives any challenges.

ArabellaScott · 07/02/2025 07:33

Is he going to sue them, then?

By the way, how are Khelif's law suits going?

Any word from Paris?

Helleofabore · 07/02/2025 09:52

Wouldn’t that be something? Khelif’s case hearing requiring witness statements from the medical experts disclosing test results, just like Semenya’s case give evidence for Semenya’s condition?

I think that Khelif is waiting to see what the new organisation World Boxing is going to do. As are we all…

But isn't that in relation to being transgender? Unless it also includes a medical verification to identify whether people with a DSD are the sex they claim to be.

SophieStrange · 08/02/2025 14:03

No evidence has ever been presented that Khelif is anything other than a naturally-born woman, nor that she is affected by any sort of chromosomal medical condition. It’s a curious thing to celebrate a woman being excluded from her sport simply for being born with a physique that advantages her in it.

Will we be forbidding tall people from basketball next?

Lovelyview · 08/02/2025 14:12

Khelif hasn't been excluded from the World Boxing Champioships because of Kelif's physique. Khelif has been excluded because he is male. That's what a 'gender eligibility test' is for. 🙄

The IBA had two tests conducted on blood samples from Imane Khelif and Lin Yu-ting by laboratories and they detected results that didn’t match the eligibility criteria for IBA women’s events.

Both had the right to appeal to Court of Arbitration for Sport. Lin Yu-ting did not appeal and Imane Khelif, having started an appeal, did mot proceed with it.

It is worth noting that appealing to the CAS involves agreeing to the results being made public. This is how the knowledge that Caster Semenya has a DSD which only occurs in males and had a testosterone level far above the range for human females.

Brainworm · 08/02/2025 14:22

It has. The governing body for Boxing based their decision to not allow Khalif to fight in the women's category on the basis of sex testing.

I think it's a good idea to do some background research before saying things like this - there is ample evidence - from Khelif's own team - that he is not a woman.

I am somewhat sympathetic to Khelif because I believe that he was brought up as a girl and I believe it was a shock to him to find out that his chromosomes are not female chromosomes.

I also think he was such a national icon in Algeria that there was huge pressure on him to continue boxing as a woman, instead of giving him the caring and professional help he needed to adjust to the proof that he is not in fact a woman.

Ideally of course he should have said 'I'm not a woman? Really?? OK fair cop guv, I'll go back to poverty and obscurity in Algeria' but he didn't, and there were political and sporting structures around him encouraging him to refuse to accept his biological sex.

I'd feel sorry for him, but I think Algeria is treating him well, and I think he looked well cool in that Vogue fashion shoot, and I hope he forges a successful new occupation as a modelSmile
And never sets foot in a ring with a woman boxer again, ever.

RatedDoingMagic · 08/02/2025 14:30

I wish they wouldn't call it a gender test. Gender can't be tested for. It's a test of biological sex. It's not uncommon for DSDs to be undetected at birth in countries (or areas of countries) with less advanced medical facilities and if this happens a male with a DSD can indeed be brought up thinking of themselves as female and developing a self-identity that they would describe as female. However if their DSD is one of the ones where a male puberty goes ahead then they should stop qualifying for any kind of female-only sporting event, while being free to stick with a feminine "gender identity" if that's their choice and they believe in that sort of thing.

Without publishing the criteria or evidence.

Ask yourself why you are quite so enthusiastic to accept, indeed celebrate, an arbitrary decision made by the men of the IBA to opaque criteria without published evidence to support it.
