NHS Fife tries to silence nurse - Sandie Peggie vs NHS Fife Health Board and Dr Beth Upton - thread #5

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks. The hearing commenced with Sandie Peggie giving evidence. Dr Beth Upton started giving evidence on 6 February.

I think it's probably hard to understand the milieu that people are now steeped in.

In a sane world DU would have maybe asked colleagues to respect the new name, not yelled "YOU'RE REALLY A BLOKE" in their face and asked if a separate changing space could be provided.

But this is a world where anyone who doesn't treat them "as a woman" is akin to a racist. So they don't understand why there can be a court case where someone defends their right "to be a racist". It probably is traumatising in that sense.

Bets that Dr Upton is hyperventilating in a corridor/ just hasn't shown up?

That's the message I got when joining with Video and Audio. In that mode you have allow them then make sure they're off when you join. The alternative is to join as an Observer.

@Ineedtoseetobelieve32 I tried three or four browsers on my phone and no success. Same for my iPad. It’s worked on my laptop using Chrome. So try a different device.

Thanks Nauticant. When I join as observer I get a black screen only so all week I've been A&V while being very careful to have the mic and camera off.

Thank you! For me it’s Microsoft Chrome on my laptop that is giving me problems.. going to see if I have any other browsers I can try!

Well I’m about to go put the kettle on now, so the likelihood of them starting the second I leave my laptop is high 🙄
