nauticant · 06/02/2025 11:39

Sandie Peggie, a nurse at Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy (VH), has brought claims in the employment tribunal against her employer; Fife Health Board (the Board) and another employee, Dr B Upton. Ms Peggie’s claims are of sexual harassment, harassment related to a protected belief, indirect discrimination and victimisation. Dr Upton claims to be a transwoman, that is observed as male at birth but asserting a female gender identity.

The Employment Tribunal hearing started on Monday 3 January 2025 and is expected to continue for 2 weeks.

Access to view the hearing remotely can be obtained by sending an email request to [email protected] headed Public Access Request (Peggie v Fife Health Board) 4104864/2024 and requesting access.

Gosh DrU's views on the role of nurses isn't very kind. He seems to view them as the people who do the work Doctors are too clever to do

PoshCoffee · 06/02/2025 12:10

I am listening whilst wrestling with a spreadsheet and the voice is now clearly male, even when I’m not looking at him.

Hermyknee · 06/02/2025 12:11

So children who have an emergency admission because of psychosis due to brain damage, when they are terrified and have to place absolute trust in those around them to tell them what’s real and what isn’t?

"Sometimes the nurses are trained to take bloods" - are there really nurses who aren't?

Perhaps he's referring to the phlebotomists who have additional training?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/02/2025 12:11

i wonder if the judge and other men just see him as an unusual, slightly exotic kind of human and have no idea of how he appears to women and what negative effect he has on them when he insists on entering their spaces.

I think a lot of people take this view.

Yes, it's not a skill that's taught before qualification.

Doctors are basically "see one, do one" about a lot of stuff, nurses have to attend courses and fill in a million sign off documents for the same skills.

KnottyAuty · 06/02/2025 12:11

At the moment Dr U is going through lists of his typical duties and shifts. Some reference to what he thinks nurses do although "as a Dr not totally familiar with nurses rules" - nurses expected to do patient observations

As someone who had bloods taken today (very efficiently) by a nurse I'd say they most definitely are capable of taking blood

The voice has changed a lot even in these first few minutes.

It has indeed. It is that of a young softly spoken man now.

KnottyAuty · 06/02/2025 12:13

Vocal tone over time is changing very slightly. Was softer and more high pitched to start. Now still feminine sounding but tone is lowering slightly

ThatPithySheep · 06/02/2025 12:14

Sorry I've had to give up, I just couldn't bear to hear JR questioning him. I will try again later once I've had lunch!

Sorry, link for those not on the previous thread -

I feel a bit teary (which is helping to combat how I feel listening to the live feed) to see this number rise so rapidly. What a fabulous, positive and tangible way to support this family.

NotAGentleReminder · 06/02/2025 12:15

Following here but not watching. What is the relevance of nurses taking bloods?

Helleofabore · 06/02/2025 12:12

Exactly that.

BeaTwix · 06/02/2025 12:16

@fanOfBen taking bloods and putting in cannulation are acquired skills for nurses in the UK and they need signed off by their employing trust so even if they can do it for employer A they need to be recertified if they move to employer B.

Mayaisashero · 06/02/2025 12:16

The class issue is stark.

ThatPithySheep · 06/02/2025 12:16

DrU was outlining the tasks of a doctor and the tasks of a nurse, but he doesn't seem to have a grasp of what nurses actually do.

NotAGentleReminder · 06/02/2025 12:15

They're laying the ground for accusing SP of not completing tasks he set her.

Mayaisashero · 06/02/2025 12:17

Mmmnotsure · 06/02/2025 12:15

Exactly that.

Agreed.

Mayaisashero · 06/02/2025 12:17

Did you discuss the impact on OTHER PEOPLE when discussing your use of changing rooms or was it all about you?

Lougle · 06/02/2025 12:18

Yes, it's not a skill that's taught before qualification.

Not now. Venepuncture/phlebotomy is part of the training of student nurses now.

Mayaisashero · 06/02/2025 12:18

All these poor gaslit women in the NHS too scared to speak up, so that entitled men can claim there are 'no issues'. The religious women having to wear two layers of clothing to observe the requirements of their religion in mixed sex changing.

FURIOUS!
