would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

Mumsnet is a talk board. It's a safe space for anyone who follows the talk guidelines.

WoopsLiza · 04/02/2025 21:05

Safe from what, sorry?

Buffypaws · 04/02/2025 21:06

It’s quite safe. I can’t see what harm could really befall you here.

Apollo441 · 04/02/2025 21:07

Sigh....no one here is transphobic.

Bannedontherun · 04/02/2025 21:07

?

MagentaRavioli · 04/02/2025 21:07

No. Once you get an account, fire-breathing dragons will roar at you out of your screen and sharks will swim up the overflow pipe into your sink once you wash your hands.

😀 welcome to mn. Provided you’re okay about people disagreeing with you on some things and agreeing on others, you’ll be fine. No sharks or dragons.

AuntieStella · 04/02/2025 21:07

Mumsnet is not and never has been a "safe" space for anything.

Some topics are more supportive than others, but at the end of the day this is a large and wide open chat site, and anyone who thinks it is (or ever has been) a "safe" space needs swiftly disabusing of that.

TickingAlongNicely · 04/02/2025 21:09

There are people who believe that sex is more important than gender.
There are people who believe that gender is more important than sex
And people who have no opinion whatsoever and prefer to discuss puppies or sports results.

Transphobia isn't allowed.

Branleuse · 04/02/2025 21:11

What do you mean by safe space?

Its an active fast moving message board full of women with a massive range of views on everything and who will challenge bullshit.

hamstersarse · 04/02/2025 21:12

Is it safe for me to ask you if you would be happy to date a trans woman (no op) and if your answer is no, would it be safe for me to say that’s transphobic?

Sortumn · 04/02/2025 21:12

I quite like non-transphobic lesbians as long as they're not men claiming to be lesbians.

Mumsnet seems safe. I think we might have different definitions of safe.

I meant safe as in feeling non marginalised or invalidated

There's quite a lot of posters appearing with really old user names, today.
That'll be because you can't re register with new accounts ATM.
You'll be very safe chatting to them.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 04/02/2025 21:15

Why is OP asking on this board I wonder? The Feminism board seems an odd place to chose for a general question about Mumsnet.

@rexrabbit is there a particular reason you picked this board? Are you asking for a specifically Feminist assessment of whether MN is a safe space?

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:15

there seems to be a lot of vitriol going around about non het non cis stuff here

Mumsnet is a huge site with several different boards for all manner of chat, debate, argument and discussions.

Interesting you chose to pose your question on the FWR Sex and Gender Board.

What do you envisage a 'safe' space to be? Why do you need one?

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 04/02/2025 21:17

You've been here while so surely you can work out whether you want to stay or not...

I demand a refund. My dragons aren't fire breathing.

It's not anyone else's job to make you feel valid

I was about to ask the same question. An odd choice of board to pick.

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:18
