would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

there seems to be a lot of vitriol going around about non het non cis stuff here

Any chance you can translate non het cis stuff into English?

myplace · 04/02/2025 21:20

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:14

I meant safe as in feeling non marginalised or invalidated

Might depend how marginal your opinions are. I mean, no one can squeeze you off the page or anything. We all get the same amount of typing space.

What would invalidate you? Why would random users on a talk site validate you?

If you say something lots of people like they’ll use the thank or agree emoji. So that’s validating I suppose. There’s no ‘downvote’ equivalent.

Where's that then?

Heggettypeg · 04/02/2025 21:20

The only person who knows what feels safe for you is you. So the best thing I can suggest is that you spend some time reading previous threads on any Mumsnet boards you are interested in, to get a feel of the place. That's what I did for a while before I started posting.

CandyLeBonBon · 04/02/2025 21:21

Plus: I also want dragons

GailBlancheViola · 04/02/2025 21:23

I want dragons too, I am going to stamp my feet and shout It's not fair until I get some.

NoBinturongsHereMate · 04/02/2025 21:24

With, what, 9 million (?) users there isn't a single thing everybody is going to agree on. There's probably at least 1 person here who'll disagree with you about the speed of light in a vacuum or the shape of the globe. And there's variation between the different boards

But on the whole I'd say the feminism board is pro lesbian, and anti people asking vague, peculiar questions.

I demand a refund. My dragons aren't fire breathing.

Oh fuck off with your humble brag. Many of us don’t even have a dragon. And there you are complaining about the lack of fire eating.

The globe is definitely flat

GailBlancheViola · 04/02/2025 21:27

The million dollar question is : How do you validate or un-validate someone?

This is crucial stuff.

To be fair I complained prior to the complaints of people being dragonless.

I am so very sorry for actually having dragons.

Please forgive me.

Pssst...

Want to buy a dragon?

rexrabbit · 04/02/2025 21:14

This is only a metaphorical “space”, though - so how can it be “safe”? It isn’t real.

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/02/2025 21:28

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 04/02/2025 21:17

You've been here while so surely you can work out whether you want to stay or not...

Never mind the dragons. I want a magnificent octopus.

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 04/02/2025 21:29

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/02/2025 21:28

Never mind the dragons. I want a magnificent octopus.

Nope, it's all mine. Soz.

YellowRoom · 04/02/2025 21:29

What needs to happen for you to be non-margin nalised and validated?

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/02/2025 21:30

I’ve just done a quiz to find out my dragon name. It’s Drogon if anyone’s interested.

CandyLeBonBon · 04/02/2025 21:30

If we are only reliant on validation from others to shore up our self esteem, am we will never learn resilience and self determination, op.

Learn to validate yourself. It's the most empowering gift you can give yourself. Apart from fire breathing dragons, of course!

Boiledbeetle · 04/02/2025 21:30

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/02/2025 21:28

Nobody ever wants a beetle!

Sortumn · 04/02/2025 21:31

❤ op I tried to make you a lesbian flag out of coloured hearts so that you'd feel more welcome, but there was only a black one there and now I can't even delete it.

Now you have to tell us where we get our Dragon name!

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 04/02/2025 21:31

Hi OP.

Would you just explain what "non het non cis" means.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 04/02/2025 21:31

NoBinturongsHereMate · 04/02/2025 21:27

<confiscates Beetle's dragon>

You are now literally Hitler and dragonphobic

YellowRoom · 04/02/2025 21:31

What makes an average octopus into a magnificent octopus? Does it need a safe space to be its authentic self?

CandyLeBonBon · 04/02/2025 21:31

Especially not a boiled one @Boiledbeetle
