would you say mumsnet these days is a safe space for a non-transphobic lesbian with children to hang out?

This board is a very silly place sometimes.

DH did once try attaching wings to one of the dogs, but she entirely failed to get airborne, never mind breathe fire.

Total bloody let-down.

If your DH was taking a leaf out of Daedalus’s book, it’s a good thing the dog didn’t breathe fire. The wings could have melted.

Where do I apply for my dragon? Is this like how we TERFs are funded by the American far right and yet I haven’t seen a fucking penny?

I’m starting to take this personally, you know <huffs>

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/02/2025 21:45

If you’re still here, OP, as you can see from the replies - this is not a safe space. It’s terfy. They don’t like people to have any pronouns unless they deem them appropriate. They are a bunch of Neanderthals who just don’t get it.

Grin right

It's a great shame we can't post pictures right now as I have a great one of Terry Wogan...

Miaowzabella · 04/02/2025 21:45

You cannot safely assume that any anonymous internet forum will be a 'safe space', especially if you can't deal with the possibility that not everyone will share your assumptions.

That would be the one I’m thinking of.

I meant safe as in feeling non marginalised or invalidated

It is not our job to validate you or your ideas. We cannot help your feelings. A good percentage of people will disagree with what you believe, but on the other side, I’m sure you will disagree too. It would be really boring if everybody thought the same.

you will be treated as an adult human and if you say interesting or original things, listened to (whether people agree with you or not) and if you say things that cannot be backed up, may be argued with. You have equality in that. Sometimes people will take the time to tell you when your statements are silly. Cherish this, as there is a lot of knowledge here.

However, welcome! All are welcome!🤗

myplace · 04/02/2025 21:47

I’ve remembered another MN danger zone…!

The litter tray is full of adorable cats and cat photos. It is not a safe space for anyone likely to weaken and accidentally get some more cats. Stay away.

I don’t wish to appear ungrateful but it’s not breathing fire.

Is this one faulty?

That photo is not safe!

True.

Would probably have to add a trigger warning.

SinnerBoy · 04/02/2025 21:47

Boiledbeetle

How can you say that? After all the photos I've posted of beetles I've seen? Especially the Goliath Beetle which hissed at me in Darwin?

😥

Why is OP asking on this board I wonder? The Feminism board seems an odd place to chose for a general question about Mumsnet.

@rexrabbit is there a particular reason you picked this board? Are you asking for a specifically Feminist assessment of whether MN is a safe space?

Possibly because the feminism board is a cesspit of transphobia. I only ended up here by mistake and I’m pissing off again now. Bye x

Msmoonpie · 04/02/2025 21:49

A safe space ?!?

It’s the internet where a bunch of people that don’t know each other speak to each other. As a result it has a variety of opinions and conversations - many of which disagree with each other.

If you can’t deal with that then no it isn’t a safe space.

EmpressaurusKitty · 04/02/2025 21:49

DrSpartacularsMagnificentOctopus · 04/02/2025 21:47

I’m not sure that’s the best way to phrase it, considering the photo.

OP I was on a thread with you about schools over a decade ago (different username) I think our kids are roughly the same age. I love the fur of Rex’s (on the live ones). It’s a good place where you can have a good discussion. Welcome back.

JanesLittleGirl · 04/02/2025 21:52

Most of MN is pretty safe. The pet/animal topics can get a bit heated. Just stay away from AIBU. Their motto is:

We don't carry rifles
We don't carry lead
We just carry hatchets
To bury in your head.

FWR is a choir practice in comparison.
