I think the 'no men' rule is a good idea for that - keeps Robinson et al out so does reduce the odds of co-option.

Exactly.

cariadlet · 20/01/2025 15:36

A no men rule keeps out the Right Wing thugs like Tommy Robinson.

It also keeps out the Left Wing Antifa types who were taking over Saturdays supposed Women's Marches.

It's a win - win.

I want to make a placard / sign relating to the rape gangs. Any suggestions what to put on it? Just hunting for ideas.

FlowchartRequired · 20/01/2025 17:07

Rotheram
Telford
Oldham
etc.
Stop the abuse!
Protect girls now!

Possibly a bit wordy, you would need a big sign!

I can't read what her sign says after the word woman (other than the definition of woman - there's something in smaller writing).
She is a brave woman to carry that sign in Edinburgh, centre of Scottish #no debate for so long.

I guess it is (noun).

It's used in the dictionary like definitions and fit the unclear part quite fine.

Thanks.
Unfortunately, I left it too late to edit my spelling mistake.

Edit - oh flip, I really need to learn to proof read before clicking 'send'.

Yes I’d agree with this. You can say children but it’s not children in general the grooming gangs went after. This is marching for women and girls and those are totally joint goals in my mind.

So it's not a women's march, and now it looks like it's becoming not even about children in general, but for a specific subset of abused children, who are girls, and who are in certain specific geographical areas.

Why can we not have a march for women, about women, without narrowing it down to other, albeit very valid, issues?
A separate march against the sexual abuse of children would be great, I'd support that 100%.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2025 21:44

It isn't just about grooming gangs. I posted the whole statement on the aims upthread.

Absolutely. But I don't think it's fair to blame that on this one, they are holding a women's march for children. Just women. But the focus is children. Including victims of paedophiles other than those in the grooming gangs, and transitioning children.

It will be on the first thread, I think, to be precise.

Are you going to one? I will be at the Glasgow one.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 20/01/2025 22:16

I may go to the London one, or see if there is one nearer. I think I know someone going to one near me.

Not a march, but Let Women Speak is Women talking about issues that affect them, go to your nearest one if you haven't before, they're great whether or not you like KJK.

I read the article and forgot that the organisers compared sex work to working in Tesco 😂😂

That article is great. Thanks to all who posted the link. I am so glad I read it.

You can’t bow to the demands of dangerous men like Baker, while respecting the needs of women who have been victims of male violence.

Women’s March madness | Josephine Bartosch | The Critic Magazine

This Saturday, barrister Dr Charlotte Proudman (she/her) found a window in her schedule of self-promotion to address the crowd at the London Women’s March. It was one of several organised in the UK…

'You can’t bow to the demands of dangerous men like Baker, while respecting the needs of women who have been victims of male violence. You can’t claim that sex work is work, while decrying objectification of women’s bodies. And you can’t whinge about boys’ clubs when you are a member of a self-serving elite girls’ club. '

Hear, hear.
