There's nothing at all in the London chat. People are trying to arrange to go for post-march drinks.

I guess they’ve missed the many reports on the state of women’s rights in Gaza.

Well, the stupidity of it beggars belief really. What are the pro-Palestinian flags meant to represent in the context of women's rights? Because Hamas aren't keen on women having a lot of rights, as far as I can tell.

Edited to add: sorry I forgot that this march isn't actually about women's rights at all.

So jsut general rage then? At least the second set of pictures is mostly actual women related… does no one ever think that if I take one issue and focus on that that we might get traction?? Ooooh no because we can’t just talk about women safety what about literally everyone and everything else including rhe menzzz ??

I do find the whole random collection of aims really frustrating. I don't think there was a single specific objective for the event at all. I mean what does "tear down the sexist system" mean? I think it's a real shame that general concern has been mobilised but in such an unfocused way.

duc748 · 19/01/2025 00:51

Of course it's appalling what's happened to the Gazans, though no more than Hamas knew would happen when they launched their attack, but these fools latching onto every march or demo, what do they think they are achieving? Nothing more than halo-polishing, as far as I can see.

These marches need to be kept separate otherwise the message is just lost.

Did the woman from Trevi speak at Plymouth?

Nope. Even though apparently she is someone with a long history of women's rights campaigning, and was speaking in that capacity not as someone for Trevi, the women in the chat absolutely made it clear her presence was not acceptable. They said she was problematic as was the Trevi project. When they announced they'd cancelled her they celebrated it was gross.

Cambridge happened and I saw a man post a video of his speech he'd read out on TikTok. Yes, they platformed a man who whined on and on about how hard his coming out as a woman at 50 had been 🙄 apparently he lost his house, job, everything ... Which is strange as his TikTok has loads of videos of him driving round in an expensive BMW convertible and recovering from private surgery. He don't seem to be doing too badly. Totally inappropriate.

The tearing down of the sexist system is an SWP buzz phrase. I doubt anyone read the pamphlet that explains it.

Hopefully these marches were a mass peakathon for any non TRA women naively embracing them in good faith.

INeedAPensieve · 19/01/2025 09:03

Let's hope so Eresh! It's certainly prompted an upsurge to WRN groups.

JumpingPumpkin · 19/01/2025 10:21

Thanks BackToLurk, that pamphlet is quite interesting. There's a number of dodgy "facts" in there but interesting to read their views. I always get stuck on the revolutionary part of SWP, they don't actually have concrete ideas for change.

If you stand for everything, you stand for nothing.

I've seen it referred to as the Omnicause.

These days I think of it as the box of values that self-identified 'progressives' took down from the shelf without actually stopping to look at/think about any of them.

Probably means his wife chucked him out and divorced him, and now he moans like many entitled men post divorce that he has to divide his assets.

I bet this was a man's sign, and I bet he enjoys Malaga Airport.

It's pretty much guaranteed that is a man holding that sign!

A quote from a song sung in a musical when a bunch of girls had a sleepover and a pillow fight? Hmm, let me think…

Grease. It's the song where Rizzo makes fun of Sandy and Sandy ovehears:
"Take your filthy paws,
Off my silky drawers."

I have to admit that when I first saw the photo, I thought it was just a creepy sign.
It was the post above that made me think of the song.

I am a misogynist now...😂😂 She was silenced when sent a screenshot of them condoning a rapist and violent criminal. Why do they go straight for bigot etc ..when you say you want rights for women?

Replace 'trans' with 'fake' - a little tip that I read about on this forum - and it makes a bit more sense.
