The march I went to had loads of people. Speakers talking about abortion, domestic violence, safe streets.
The odd trans banner / chant and a non binary speaker but certainly not the predominant message. And this is fair enough in my opinion as it what was advertised. It was always going to be TWAW.

Those are all important issues and it's good women were inspired to act. It's a shame so many of us were excluded.

I hadn't realised Baker had been in 29 different prisons during his 30 years. Seems a lot. Is a yearly move usual?

They all get sick of him and pass the buck? 😂😂

cariadlet · 18/01/2025 19:14

I was in Brighton. Very small march. SWP were there and were handing out placards at the beginning.

Men with SWP, SUTR (2 faces of the same group) and Trans flags and banners were near the front and were very keen to try and lead the chanting.

They kept forgetting that it was supposed to be a Women's Rights march.

ellenback21 · 18/01/2025 19:18

From the Socialist Worker:

Up to 3,000 people joined the march in London from Waterloo to Old Palace Yard opposite parliament....The Women’s Marches saw around 600 in Manchester, over 500 in Edinburgh, around 400 in Nottingham and 200 in Brighton.

Jamfirstest · 18/01/2025 19:24

I can't see any actual women's groups/orgs tagged on socials posts from the march today. I feel so much rage now

SWP, so divide by at least 3

Indeed. Plus, note 'up to 3000' in London.

Do we HAVE 29 prisons in England (and Wales?)

TheUnusuallyQuerulentMxLauraBrown · 18/01/2025 19:51

Apparently we have 122 including women and YOI - gonna have to send him
back for another 30 years so he can tick some more off!

cariadlet · 18/01/2025 19:52

Is anyone still lurking in the FB group?

I'd love to know what they're saying about the Terfs turning up in London, Manchester, Brighton (and anywhere else where GC women went along).

We might have had 29 over a period of 30 years.

7 were closed in 2013 alone.

And Baker was first held in young offenders' institutions.

Is that good or bad? Not familiar with her.

imagine a permanently pissed India, but not quite as bright.

Retiredfromthere · 18/01/2025 20:14

Looking at the FB posts from the various marches glad to see so many that amplified women's concerns. Several about shame changing sides. Love this d the stealthy (inside the bag for life bag) banner! Very neat idea.

I did not want to share screengrabs showing people's faces from the FB group but for those speculating about numbers in London this is a screenshot from a video. Its obviously a lot.

I raised this in one of the groups before I was banned. The fact that there seems to be so little media presence.

Local press has reported 'hundreds' at the Plymouth march. Categorically untrue.

CyclingSam · 18/01/2025 21:32

Mustn't forget this one

Their organisers forgot all about that.

NoBinturorongs

No, it's abnormal. Only the most troublesome and violent prisoners get moved so much.

TigerLily40 · 18/01/2025 22:35

Were there not any mention at all in the group chats about protesting against the rape gangs and the cover ups?
