Three-day ban on Reddit for “hate”

1000 replies

ConversingWithStrangers · 30/12/2024 10:45

The only thing I can think of is posting on a UK sub about male violence. A man said that it’s not just men who have a problem with being violent because he’d been assaulted by a trans woman. I replied, “how did you know your assailant was trans?”.

They literally have subs for men to masturbate to videos of women who have a look of being “dead behind the eyes” they’ve been abused so much.

(It’s either that or somebody doesn’t like my crochet advice).

@Lostcat
Do you think that the OP's tongue in cheek comment on Reddit deserves a three-day ban, but whole substacks about raping lesbians are not hateful and should be allowed to stand?

Also, in your opinion, do cats and dogs have the mental capacity to understand and adhere to any ideology?

I would very much to see an answer to the first question from @Lostcat and also from @Christinapple

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/01/2025 11:56

Why? Most of their members are men.

I bet many of those men aren't even out as "trans" to family and friends. Much of Reddit is pure fantasy.

Helleofabore · 02/01/2025 12:06

Remember that we have some posters on MN who seem to have self appointed themselves as spokes people for transgender people, who also arbitrate who is transgender and who is not. There is more than one.

We have most recently been told that transmaxxers have 'nothing to do with people who are actually transgender.' From a poster who also declared that being transgender had nothing to do with being a philosophical belief but also had nothing to do with a person's physical biology. And following that, a 'feeling' was not based on philosophical belief.

And these same posters don't seem to ever remember the other 130+ genders that are transgender identities. There focus seems to be very binary.

All from some posters who assert that they have studied in this field, but have not claimed to be transgender themselves. Yet some of these posters speak confidently about who is transgender and who is not and what being 'transgender' means. And no robust evidence is ever posted to support their claims.

Hateful ideas like "defining womanhood as a state of mind is harmful to the rights and protections of female people"?

Like "Sex exists and has a material effect on women(1)'s lives that trans women do not have to deal with"?

Like "Opening up the rights and protections intended to support female people in a sexist society to men(1) who believe something in their mind makes them a woman is sexist and demeaning to women(1)"?

Like "Saying the fundamental difference between men and women isn't that we have different bodies, it's that we have different minds" is really sexist and old fashioned?

Like "If it is right and fair that laws and conventions that were put in place to protect and support female should be extended to include men(1) who believe they think like women(1) this should be done openly by making a fair case as to why these men(1) need the same resources and showing that their inclusion does not reduce the effectiveness of these things to the women(1) they exist to support, not covertly by changing the definition of the word "woman" to include men(1) and then saying "well they are women so that means they are entitled to anything women are entitled to" ?

Ideas, in fact, that are only "hateful" if you believe it's hateful for women(1) to say no to men(1) when men(1) want sonething that women(1) have?

(1) Original sex based meaning

Edited

I suspect that a poster who cannot recognise the inherent misogyny of any male person claiming to be female/a woman, thus redefining the very words that female people need to describe their unique needs, will not be able to recognise what 'hate' actually means. It becomes a word to bandy around to shame people who disagree that male people can ever be female or women and then to deflect the harms sustained by the collective group of female people by those very same people.

StrongasSixpence · 02/01/2025 13:39

I suspect that @LostCat won't want to return to this discussion but it would be interesting to know what they think to the following...

Do they accept that the fact that 50% of r/actuallesbians also subscribe to r/mtf suggests that the reddit 'lesbian' community is likely to be at least half made up of people born/assigned male at birth so not representative of the community of same sex attracted female (assigned at birth if you prefer) people?

Do they really think the YouGov question asking about positive/negative feelings towards the trans community means the people answering specifically believe that all transwomen are literally female and should be equally considered as a sexual partner for any person attracted to female people?

On that point, I have no ill wishes to anyone for being trans and think policy and societal attitudes should be shaped to ensure they can live safe and productive lives just like any other group. That doesn't mean I think being trans means you have actually changed sex or that they should be treated as their chosen gender for all purposes. Rather we should ensure they are protected against discrimination, have access to well researched and safe health care and we should make accommodation where necessary e.g. offering alternative intimate spaces where possible like gender neutral, entirely enclosed loos etc.

How hateful.

SinnerBoy · 02/01/2025 13:47

Prejudice is a baseless dislike, or feeling of superiority.

Women here and elsewhere rejecting TW as women and asking them to be excluded from women's spaces and groups is absolutely not prejudice, it's an informed and rational conclusion, having experienced, or read the numerous stories of TW abusing women's spaces.

Lesbians need to learn to accept "female penis."

Paedophiles, rapists and voyeurs in toilets, perverts carrying out unspeakable acts in M&S changing rooms. Hulking men in dresses assaulting elderly women in New Zealand and London, simply for being at women's events.

Signs and verbal exhortations to belt, punch and murder TERFs. Threats of what they will do to women with their "girl dick," their barbed wire wrapped baseball bats, their knives and axes, their guns. Wishes that women will die in grease fires.

Etc, etc, etc ad infinitum.

And still people think that TWAW and they are poor oppressed, kind and gentle creatures.

(Obviously not all transw, but a sizeable number).

A bit like their obsessive ideas about sex- just nothing to do with reality

Funny how it’s only one particular type of ‘woman’ that get their clitoris cut off in some cultures. That has nothing to do with reality? Really?

I’ve now reached the point of finding @Lostcat’s repeated ‘lol’s’ and ‘😂’ deeply offensive.

With all the careful and thoughtful comments and questions conveniently ignored.

It's illuminating how it seems to be mainly the genderists who pepper their posts with laughing emojis and 'lol's- although it's all just one big joke to them.

Not only that, but they now also resort to using the laughing emoji on the post reactions.

And they are usually the posters who claim to be abused or harassed as well.

The hypocrisy of their tactics seems never ending now.

Wow. Did not realise that was happening.

I don't know why that should surprise/shock me that our resident TRAs do this but it does. I genuinely assumed they were better than that.

Fair enough to reply to a post with robust disagreement or even a pissy answer or dismissive emojii. Others can see it and it adds something to the topic if only to register dissent. But given that no one else can see reactions, a sarcastic laugh has no purpose other than one on one nastiness.

I still think it's crucial to assume positive intent in those who hold different positions to me, but by God some people make it hard sometimes!

Yes, you do it too.

So someone treats you badly and you just feel it is appropriate to pass it on to whoever you disagree with? Good to know.

How about you just report any person who is doing it in the furture? That is what MNHQ has suggested. There is a thread about it in site stuff.

I'm equally shocked that GC posters are doing it. Ridiculous and childish whether it's being done by GC feminists, TRAs or those who identify as "very supportive of trans people though not a TRA, just believe in live and let live",

(Just so I'm clear, your idea of "Let live" doesn't extend to women (original sex based meaning) keeping the sex-based rights, language, political voice, protections and opportunities that were put into place to help us navigate the personal and structural disadvantges women face?)

It really depends on what AngelAva means by "nasty comments".
I'd be interested to see examples of such comments.

Do you think that the OP's comment deserved a three-day ban from Reddit for"hate"? And do you think substacks about raping lesbians are not hateful and should not be banned?

SinnerBoy · 02/01/2025 22:36

Don't worry. I'm not gender critical and very supportive of trans people though not a TRA, just believe in live and let live

Hmm. Your posts tend to suggest otherwise. Live and let live for those you agree with, or who profess to know little of the subject, but not so for sex realists, who post facts.

I suggest you read more carefully then. Because that's a very inaccurate summary of opinion.
