Three-day ban on Reddit for “hate”

The only thing I can think of is posting on a UK sub about male violence. A man said that it’s not just men who have a problem with being violent because he’d been assaulted by a trans woman. I replied, “how did you know your assailant was trans?”.

They literally have subs for men to masturbate to videos of women who have a look of being “dead behind the eyes” they’ve been abused so much.

(It’s either that or somebody doesn’t like my crochet advice).

Somewhat off topic, but I wish the new reacts hadn't been introduced. They feel like a snipey way to mock without engagement, which feeds into the worst of forum tendencies.

I preferred the old system of giving thanks to users who made valuable contributions, although I must admit I was always stingy when it came to handing them out.

The OP's original post was perfectly clear - she was saying that it was unfair that she had been banned for "hate " for making a tongue in cheek comment which exposed one of many flaws in GII reasoning, while substacks which are vile about and to women are permitted.

And I agree it is possible to support trans people without being a dick.

Can you snipe? I am seeing thanks/agree/love/funny? Have I missed your point?

You should report nasty posts calling all trans people predators and misogynists.

I've never seen those posts - perhaps link to them here? .

What I have seen is people say they don't give a shit if you think they are nasty for believing that sex is real and immutable and that trans women are not women. And correctly calling misogynistic behaviour what it is.

That's not the same thing as you're trying to suggest, but I guess if you believe someone's legally held sex realist beliefs are by definition 'nasty' then we're never going to agree on that.

Some of the uptight self righteous replies are funny! They are really pearl clutchy and conjure up images of church women gasping as a youth with tattoos walk past.

So you admit you find women's genuine concerns funny, and rather than seeking to understand these concerns you mock them for being .. checks notes...
Pearl clutchy
'Church women'
Uptight
Self righteous.

No ageism, religious prejudice and misogyny there!

And you fail to answer any actual questions about gender every single time. You'd rather mock than engage in a serious discussion. Thanks for proving my point. How, precisely, does that sit with #bekind, because it doesn't seem very kind?

But the sex realists are the ones on the wrong side of history? Got it.

Sniping in the sense of dropping a passive aggressive react but not engaging with the discussion.

Under the previous system, a poster who said something genuinely amusing could be appreciated with a thanks, basically "that made me laugh, thank you". No real need for a separate "funny" react.

Under the new system, the "funny" react can be weaponised to mock posters. Those who can't be bothered to engage with the poster's point can now plop down an anonymous react only the poster can see. It's a passive aggressive way of disagreeing.

In the past, people who wanted to react with a single laugh emoji were forced to do this in the open, and it was pretty obvious to readers and lurkers that they didn't have any points of their own.

That's why I don't like the new system, as it hasn't added anything positive that wasn't there already.

I think the laugh reaction emoji is meant to be sincere. That's how I've been using it, anyway.

I suppose it could be used sarcastically but I would have thought that if you wanted to mock a poster, you'd want to do it publicly, for all to see?

Snowypeaks · 02/01/2025 23:07

I think the new reaction emojis enable you to be more specific than just "thanks". And are quicker than quoting and posting an emoji. Although, having said that, I sometimes spend several seconds deciding on which of the four I should use!

I'm sure it is supposed to be sincere, but some posters aparently aren't using it that way. That's not something specific to FWR BTW, there's been general feedback to MN about it.

What a shame. Trouble is, any of the reaction emojis could be used sarcastically. We could lose them all if they aren't being used in the right spirit.
😔

Ahhh but snowy, why wouldn’t you use every opportunity to mock and shame a poster you disagree with by using it to maliciously. Not just disagree publicly.

It is an abuser’s charter sadly. And it is happening.

an anonymous react only the poster can see.

I have just realised I was wrong about the react being anonymous, as you can now click on the react and see who gave it.

Although my point still stands about it only being visible to the poster.

Helleofabore · 02/01/2025 23:28

Yep. What has happened is that language has been twisted to misrepresent and mischaracterise what has been said.

And indeed, ”uptight self righteous replies are funny! They are really pearl clutchy and conjure up images of church women gasping as a youth with tattoos walk past.” shows none of those prejudices you mentioned… obviously. I mean, remember, it is a free for all to use this language against the bigots and to use the laughing emoji because obviously it is all very funny.

Yes. Seriously. But hey, you do you.

It is great that you are so forthcoming about your attitudes to people who disagree with you.

FlirtsWithRhinos · 02/01/2025 23:31

As an aside, the church women where I live are the ones working to free kids from gangs, running food banks and housing refugees. The idea that they would even notice a "youth with tatoos" let alone be triggered to "pearl clutching" - now that is funny! 😂

I made a comment regarding being pursued by a predator in a club and yes, someone (a man) used the laugh emoji.

I wouldn’t call it abuse nor did it bother me immensely but I’m not surprised you can’t even imagine that some posters would use the laugh emoji to mock others (you know, considering your misogynist use of phrases like ‘pearl clutchers’).

I think you have shown enough times in your posts that you have a different meaning for quite a number of words where your personal meaning departs from the established meanings.

I wouldn't mind, but from my experience of the women on this board, their own piercings and tattoos aren't exactly minimal. 😁

A bit like their obsessive ideas about sex- just nothing to do with reality

Funny how it’s only one particular type of ‘woman’ that get their clitoris cut off in some cultures. That has nothing to do with reality? Really?

I’ve now reached the point of finding @Lostcat’s repeated ‘lol’s’ and ‘😂’ deeply offensive.

With all the careful and thoughtful comments and questions conveniently ignored.

you’re offended by my use of a 😂 emoji? Ah well. Sometimes you have to laugh, it’s the only way to cope with the absurdity and nastiness on these threads.

I’m also laughing at the theatre of victimhood displayed on these GC threads. I think one user in a previous thread used the word “pomposity” to describe much of the handwringing, which I thought was brilliantly apt.

My own posts on this thread of full of people responding with the laughing emoji- par for the course. To be honest I prefer that to much of the rest . It’s an acknowledgment. And I get it. Sometimes what people say is too ridiculous and incoherent to warrant much more of a response.
