Three-day ban on Reddit for “hate”

The only thing I can think of is posting on a UK sub about male violence. A man said that it’s not just men who have a problem with being violent because he’d been assaulted by a trans woman. I replied, “how did you know your assailant was trans?”.

They literally have subs for men to masturbate to videos of women who have a look of being “dead behind the eyes” they’ve been abused so much.

(It’s either that or somebody doesn’t like my crochet advice).

It's fucking ridiculous how these creepy, homophobic men

trans women who are attracted to women you mean?

Those “fucking ridiculous”, “creepy” , “homophobic” people?

Fucking ridiculpus, Creepy and homophobic simply on account of their gender and sexuality? Neither of which they can help?

Datun · 03/01/2025 11:01

eatfigs · 03/01/2025 11:00

The "woman" and "lesbian" identities of these men are a misogynistic lie.

Of course it is.

Straight men have always fetishised lesbianism. Now they just have more and more ways to do it.

Lesbians don't do dick, never have, never will.

Have you ever heard of the concept that your reaction to something isn't necessarily universal?

I was just sharing my own personal experience.

Men attracted to women are heterosexual.

Lesbians are homosexual.

Homosexuality is a protected characteristic, precisely because some people will discriminate on its basis.

Sure. I understand.
But the user concerned can still see it and report it if they want, so I don’t see how that’s such an important distinction.

But also, if you are not allowed to 😂 react at someone’s post then it shouldn’t be an option,. I think it’s way too messy to start trying to judge when it’s ok to use it and when it isn’t.
Now I know this is a thing I feel unable to use it at all

Edited

The reaction was rolled out only very recently. MN have said in the relevant thread that they are short staffed right now but are reviewing it as soon as they can to assess how and when it is being used. Who knows it they will make changes to it or not.

This has already been said upthread.

Any poster who believes that they are being negatively targeted privately using the reaction should report their post and explain why they are reporting it so MNHQ can see the pattern of usage forming.

Of course, no one is saying that it is always or only being used negatively. That would be a mischaracterisation of any post on this thread. And of course, people do use it positively as it was expected to be used.

By all means, feel free to use it how you wish. It is up to you how you use it.

a misogynistic lie

Here it is - Denying, refusing, belittling someone else’s gender and sexuality.

Earlier someone said it was an abusive slur (or words to that effect) to call someone “transphobic” for simply “asserting their sexuality”.

Now you are calling people “misogynistic “ and “liars” for simply asserting their sexuality.

Can you still not see the irony?

If you don't believe in homosexuality, then you do you.

Gay men and women have fought for bloody years to have their sexual orientation recognised.

Sexual orientation is based on sex.

Of course it's misogyny to expect women to deny their sexual orientation in order to validate the private self image of a man.

Women are real, you know. They're not just a tool, or a resource for men to use as validation

Males calling themselves lesbians and expect to have lesbian partners are being homophobic by denying the reality of the same-sex attraction of lesbians, just like male people back in the day who used to claim to be lesbians trapped in a man's body, or used to say things like "how do you know unless you've tried it".

Male people who insist on being part of lesbian forums or who go to workshops about how to coerce or shame lesbians into having sex with them are being creepy.

We accept their sexual orientation - they are heterosexual males who for some reason are permitted to have a "genital preference" while actual lesbians are shamed for it.

Quite. I wouldn't mind, but many of them won't even date each other.

I don't know if it's the same now, but I saw loads of profiles of 'male lesbians' saying no trans, on lesbian only dating sites.

Snowypeaks · 03/01/2025 11:12

Lostcat · 03/01/2025 11:10

Nobody is denying that the sexual orientation of male people who call themselves lesbians is towards women.
What we are denying is that they are women, let alone exclusively same-sex attracted women.

NotBadConsidering · 03/01/2025 11:12

It wouldn’t be such a problem if it was just one homophobic poster denying sexual orientation. But it’s Stonewall and its CEO who have led the way. And I know teenagers who are confused by these messages as to whether they are gay or straight as a result. Which some adults want, of course.

You are denying the gender and sexual orientation of trans women who are sexually attracted to women .

This is the only denial of anyone‘s sexuality (or general personhood) that is taking place on this thread.

Now we're reaching the height of debate. I expect the next comment to be along the lines of "No, YOU smell!"

You still haven't explained how you support lesbians not having the right to define their own sexuality. Your position seems inconsistent with your own rules, that no one should deny the sexual orientation of others.

So I ask you again, why aren't female lesbians (AFAB as some might say) allowed to define their own sexuality?

Helleofabore · 03/01/2025 11:14

And here is the sticking point.

Over different threads now posters have been told that it can not be seen as ‘misogynistic’ for a male who has a transgender identity to change the definition of female, lesbian and woman to suit their personal views.

It is rather remarkable to see this in action on the feminist chat board. But here we are. Being disparaged and demonised for stating that it is indeed an act of misogyny for a male to do this.

correct, so please stop doing it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/01/2025 11:16

You are denying the gender and sexual orientation of trans women who are sexually attracted to women .

Those males would be straight. If they are also attracted to men they are bisexual. It's really that simple.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/01/2025 11:16

It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

Helleofabore · 03/01/2025 11:19

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/01/2025 11:16

It's like playing chess with a pigeon.

This is what happens when groups use ‘gender’ to define sexual orientation because they changed the definition to suit one group while causing great harm to another.

The pigeon shit is already flowing over the chessboard.

AstonScrapingsNameChange · 03/01/2025 11:20

This is like (at the risk of detailing the derail) when TRAs say people are denying that trans people exist.

Literally no one is doing that. What they are doing is retaining the right to use words as they were intended to be able to describe people.

In the same way, no one is denying that cross dressing straight males have a sexuality (straight). They can have a gender if they want one - but that doesn't override their sex for all purposes. We are denying that they should be able to steal the words 'woman' and 'lesbian' to describe themselves, however.

Datun · 03/01/2025 11:25

Lostcat · 03/01/2025 11:15

correct, so please stop doing it.

No one is denying that these men are attracted to women. They are saying that these women aren't attracted back.

Lesbians don't do dick.

What on earth has gone wrong where people genuinely think sexual orientation can be switched, back-and-forth, depending upon the self image of one of the participants?

I'm completely straight, I'm only attracted to men. If a gay woman believed she was a man, it's not going to make me fancy her!

NotBadConsidering · 03/01/2025 11:25

What they are doing is retaining the right to use words as they were intended to be able to describe people.

A chess-playing pigeon is actually a poker-playing dog, if you just change the meaning of chess to mean poker and pigeon to mean dog. To not agree is bigotry, apparently.
