Three-day ban on Reddit for “hate”

1000 replies

ConversingWithStrangers · 30/12/2024 10:45

The only thing I can think of is posting on a UK sub about male violence. A man said that it’s not just men who have a problem with being violent because he’d been assaulted by a trans woman. I replied, “how did you know your assailant was trans?”.

They literally have subs for men to masturbate to videos of women who have a look of being “dead behind the eyes” they’ve been abused so much.

(It’s either that or somebody doesn’t like my crochet advice).

OP’s comment led to a ban, because transphobia is not allowed on Reddit.

Blatant, deranged misogyny is though.

i'm not on Reddit , but if this is an example of suggested boards using the search words lesbians and women, it's really not much of a stretch to assume it's dominated by men. Nasty men, at that.

'Women are things' ???

Ugh.

And would you consider your response to be addressing the actual question asked by Helleofabore in that post?

No actual contact is ever addressed. The avoidance of debate is relentless.

Although, entirely understandable.

It is. And genderism rules.

Little wonder that this site in general, and these boards in particular infuriate them

If it were it would violate the talk guidelines- whereas in fact , the platform facilitates it

MNHQ went through an admittedly short period of deleting their own biscuit emoji so i wouldnt be too confident

lol well I’m glad it came back.
and I hope the laugh reaction stays- although I’m now confused/ afraid of how to use it 🙄

Lostcat · 03/01/2025 10:37

Oops what about the eye roll emoji 🙄? I’m guessing that’s abusive when directed at a post promoting GC ideology as well?

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 03/01/2025 10:37

although I’m now confused/ afraid of how to use it 🙄

its just the hidden ones which i think the problem lies, its seems dishonest

if its actually on the thread then, as others have said, it can be seen and reacted to and reported….

I think youve missed the point (or maybe i have 🤔)

its the hidden emojis which could be considered a problem

Helleofabore · 03/01/2025 10:39

there is a lot of transphobia on mumsnet

I noticed some transphobic posts recently where a poster self nominated themselves as an arbiter of who is really transgender and who is not.

I don’t understand? What’s hidden? You can see who reacted to your post with what reaction and the name of the poster? So easy to report.

Rufus, you haven’t missed the point.

And it has been explained at least a couple of times that it is the new reaction emojis which are not visible to those reading. If anyone is confused, they only have to ask for clarification.

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 03/01/2025 10:46

if you posted something sad about your life experience that someone laughed at i can see it

i can react to it

i can say they are bang out of order

i can report it to MNHQ

if you posted the same thing and someone did one of the hidden ones I can’t see it

I can’t react to it, I can’t say its bang out of order and I can’t report it

Sure. I understand.
But the user concerned can still see it and report it if they want, so I don’t see how that’s such an important distinction.

But also, if you are not allowed to 😂 react at someone’s post then it shouldn’t be an option,. I think it’s way too messy to start trying to judge when it’s ok to use it and when it isn’t.
Now I know this is a thing I feel unable to use it at all

Transphobia isn’t allowed on Reddit.
there is a lot of transphobia on mumsnet. Only the most extreme and explicit comments are deleted. I don’t disagree with mumsnet policy- in fact- I would leave all of it, better to shine a light on these things and let them be exposed for what they are.
Then it would be at least a little bit harder for the GC posters to play the “nothing i say is transphobic” game .

Given that asserting one's own homosexuality is apparently "transphobic", this label should be considered nothing more than pathetic name-calling that can be entirely disregarded.

Which is why people are banned from Reddit. Better to ban people than explain how thinking men can be lesbians isn’t homophobic. Posters here can’t ban those who ask them such questions, so they just ignore it instead.

There’s nothing wrong with asserting one’s own sexuality.

There’s something very wrong with dismissing / denying/ refusing/ belittling someone else’s sexuality. (And their gender). It is the latter that is homophobic and transphobic. it’s not allowed on Reddit.

Sure.

And then if you went further and discussed what my posts have been referring to, rather than your over simplified version of it, they probably would see a pattern that would not be ‘ridiculous’.

Because obviously context and full information make a significant difference.

It's about sexual orientation.

gender ideology says it doesn't exist.

I can see all the posters who have laugh reacted to my posts on this (and other trans related threads). It doesn’t bother me- the very least of what I have to withstand on these threads.

Have you ever heard of the concept that your reaction to something isn't necessarily universal?

eatfigs · 03/01/2025 11:00

The "woman" and "lesbian" identities of these men are a misogynistic lie.

Technically, we are talking about sexual orientation, not sexuality, but for the sake of argument...

There’s nothing wrong with asserting one’s own sexuality.
Correct. So tell Nancy Kelley, and all the people who claim that it is wrong - akin to racism - for a woman to assert that she is exclusively sexually interested in other women and has no interest in males as a class.

There’s something very wrong with dismissing / denying/ refusing/ belittling someone else’s sexuality. (And their gender). It is the latter that is homophobic and transphobic. it’s not allowed on Reddit.
To say that a male person is not a lesbian is not "dismissing / denying/ refusing/ belittling" that the male person is sexually attracted to women. It is merely saying that the male person is male, and therefore cannot be a lesbian because the word means an exclusively same-sex attracted female.

To say that a male person is a man is not "dismissing / denying/ refusing/ belittling" their gender because the word man - to a sex realist - simply means male person. It does not and never has described their gender identity.
