The quoted comments from the congresswoman are brilliant

First trans member lawmaker blasts GOP after bill blocks bathroom use

A trans war has broken out on Capitol Hill after a Republican lawmaker proposed a measure to block transgender women from using biological women's restrooms in the U.S. Capitol.

All the #bekind and 'why can't they let her do what she wants'... sad faces from the Democrats.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 19/11/2024 07:41

I agree the words of the congresswomen are brilliant, she's just stating the reality of it and the demigods are repeating all the same old tired tropes.

I noticed it was framed a 'trans war' instead a women's rights issue again. 🤬

One thing this whole debacle has told me is that women don't really have rights. We have what the important people say we can have.

I fear our daughters and granddaughters will be fighting a rearguard action to keep what we have well into the future.

Edited due to autocorrupt.

The thing that has shocked me is how the women who are true believers (or go along with it to be OTRSOH) have been utterly horrible to rape survivors, disabled women, other women who don't believe TWAW. They wanted to give away rights on all womens' behalf as they were the 'kind' ones and not the horrible 'ist, 'phobic bigots (who don't deserve rights anyway because fascists).

Agreed. Apparently there's a special level in hell for traitors, I don't personally believe in such things, but there are times when I hope I'm wrong, and there is such a place. 🤬

Could someone who has access archive it please?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 19/11/2024 09:09

An attempt to archive it removed because it went horribly wrong, sorry.

RainWithSunnySpells · 19/11/2024 09:12

It's archiving it now. I will post the link when it manages it (unless it fails).

ETA link, as it managed to archive the article. https://archive.ph/BBwkA

Joe Biden wrote the forward to McBride's 2018 memoir. His administration has tried to expand transgender rights in schools and federal health care programs but those proposals have faced legal challenges from conservatives.

Why are those who object to males using female facilities always labelled conservative? Maybe it's different in the US but I believe the majority of the US ask for fairness for women and therefore will be a mix of political views?

HermioneWeasley · 19/11/2024 09:28

Good to see the republicans doing what the people have shown they want - enforcing single sex spaces. I hope they do it in all taxpayer funded facilities as suggested

Runor · 19/11/2024 09:29

Thankyou RainWithSunnySpells and nauticant

Runor · 19/11/2024 09:37

From the article

”As part of her response to Mace's proposal, McBride asked for kindness: 'Every day Americans go to work with people who have life journeys different than their own and engage with them respectfully, I hope members of Congress can muster that same kindness.' ”

And yet McBride sees no unkindness in taking over women’s facilities. The kindness is only ever expected to go in one direction isn’t it - boringly predictable

It's one of the biggest lies the media ever told.

Women's rights = conservative = 'anti trans' = 'transphobic hate' = religious intolerance = very bad things = bad, bad women

Justme56 · 19/11/2024 09:41

The be kind didn’t last long though as it quickly changed to you are all far right extremists manufacturing culture wars!

ArabellaScott · 19/11/2024 09:41

Men don't get to use women's spaces (and the women within them) to make themselves feel good. Just no. Even if they seem like lovely men, even if they are very sad that they are not women.

No, thank you.

Runor · 19/11/2024 09:44

Yep, this focus on the individual, with zero consideration of the impact on the rest of society; no limits to protect the vulnerable etc. This stuff genuinely fits much more easily into an extreme right-wing philosophy than being part of the left. 🤷‍♀️

Because sadly, that is considered a strong enough accusation of wrongdoing that it is expected to silence women.

RedToothBrush · 19/11/2024 11:07

As I said on another thread, the Democrats made their own trap here which they've already walked straight into.

They've forgotten the optics of this.

Despite saying we should be talking about 'the real issues', the issue thats making the Democrats do something and talk about more, is this subject once again. For someone who has their own private toilet on the premises anyway.

The Dems are recognising it's a great distraction technique for the Republicans but they just can't help themselves as they trip over themselves to say how awful this is and virtue signal their disgust loudest (you can hear the screams on BlueSky).

The Republicans are going to do this time and time again because its catnip for Democrats at this point. They don't need to drop dead cats or shout 'look a squirrel'. They just need to impliment an entirely flaming reasonable sex based policy to divert from any shit they might get up to and to make the Democrats look like fools.

And the Democrats are going to fall into it every single time aren't they?

If Trump wasn't President and about to screw America up permanently, this might actually be incredibly glorious. Instead its depressing on another level.

Cailleach1 · 19/11/2024 11:09

I always think of Kellie Jay Keen’s straight cry of ‘He’s a man’ at the swimming competition in the U.S. Proponents of men’s right to trump women are camouflaging it as women being the nasty ones when we push back on their pretence. There is a great enjoyment, and willingness from other women who want to be in with the guys, to trample on and abuse women in this way. And, the great fraud as they are supporting those poor, sensitive, vulnerable diddums (men) who allegedly have less power than the women and girls they trample on.

Threatening a Congresswomen, that's probably treason, with any luck he's going to find himself in deep water with the Secret Service or the FBI. Let the arrests begin.😁

Well, exactly. This is why most US women don't want this.

How much more obvious does it have to be that the vast vast majority, men and women alike, don't want abusive males in women's and girls spaces. Any man that goes in knowing it will exclude and / or traumatise women is abusive. There's no reason a third space couldn't be used /created, none. It's all about specifically wanting access to unconsenting women.

Women are what they want to use, not the bathroom.

Complete darvo from the Dems. Create a third bathroom for the consenting handmaidens like AOC and McBride. She doesn't get to give away other women's rights.
